What roles do you play in Draft

What are your set Role Preferences and which Role has what percentage of your Draft games?

Here’s mine (for solo Q (HL+SL)):
I’m queueing as Flex for ranked

  • 37% as Tank
  • 30% as Bruiser (these two are actually blurry because I played Bruisers as tanks and Tanks as bruisers)
  • 19% Healer
  • 14% Assa (Ranged mostly, but Melee are also in this)

If I have a choice I usually go for the sololane role, because that’s my most successful but it seems that if someone is willing for filling they need to peeling.

Ha ha! We did the same thing at the same time, Karabars! I deleted mine, as we didn’t need the duplicate effort. Anyway, this is what I posted there.

Tank: 61%
Bruiser: 12%
Ranged assassin (ha!): 4%
Healer: 22%

As far as win rates are concerned, my two best roles are healer at 53% and tank at 52%. Granted, the stats for tank and bruiser are a little muddled, as I play Blaze in the offlane more than I play him as a tank, and I play Varian as a tank far more than I play him as a bruiser.

But based on these numbers, we can see what roles really are underrepresented given that I am usually the one to fill!

I think I have 55% wr on Bruiser and 54% on Healer as my two best.

I find the win rate thing particularly interesting, given all the people who always claim that you can only carry as an assassin. Given my personal win rates, I think if I tried to carry and climb as an assassin, I would be in Bronze by now. I find I have far more impact on a game as one of the lesser-represented roles.

Either that, or I am constantly getting carried by assassins…

Me thinks if you get the hang of a specific role and stick to it, you adapt its playstyle and become superior. I’ve seen a literally invincible Mei yesterday on stream and met a similarly durable Artanis today.

I absolutely enjoy tanking when we are on the same page with the team. Healing feels a bit like following the pack, though, can’t do anything but patch and support. It’s just rare.
I don’t know why my winrates shifted, did the community improve or I got worse overall. Not doing well on my old heroes and lost many in the reworks. Just found a few nice ones and they happen to be ranged assassins.

Also, I’d argue that bruisers and ranged assassins are equally strong, although in different ways obviously. It’s just when I see “their smurf was the healer, of course they lost”, it’s an implicit role judgment.

Given that my most-played healer is Lucio, I would beg to differ. His healing output is probably the least important part of his kit. Yes, his speed buff is a support tool, but it absolutely turns fights around. When I play a healer, I try not to be nothing but a heal bot, but look for places I can peel or set up a kill. One of the friends I have been playing a lot of SL with recently is a Garrosh main, and Garrosh+Lucio is absurdly good. If I can’t speed him into range, he trusts me enough to just throw me at them so I can slow and boop them back into the killzone.

Sadly, not yet. My winrate has gotten better recently, but I am still far below where I was last season. The first half of this season was just horrendous. Ah well, I may get back up there one of these days!

Am I blind? How can I see % played

Look at total games for each role. Divide that by total games played.

I’m not at home for a few hours for exact figures but I have an idea what I play the most!

The roles I play the most and have the most heroes I’m competent with are Tanks and Bruisers.

I like tanking but I like to mix it up. However tank seems to be the role that people pre pick the least in ranked so I usually end up doing it more than I’d like.

I went a time barely having any mage experience in ranked because everyone always pre picked a mage e.g. Li Ming, Kael, Azmo, Nazeebo instantly so I played auto attack ranged asassins quite a bit but I have a few mages to my name now.

I like playing all roles, healer is probably my least favourite but I don’t mind filling it as long as it’s not a few games in a row.

I think my best Winrates are on tanks but I’d have to check.

I agree with Hoku in that I think tanks make a big difference in the outcomes of matches and it’s very noticeable if there is a weaker tank on one team than the other.
