I often notice that muradin is really able to carry his team through his sheer tankiness and ability to interrupt. I often play guldan fairly strongly but going up against a muradin he just isn’t effective because it’s hard for me to get a good drain on a squishy, and poking down muradin with Q isn’t effective either. And since KT is always banned, what’s another good mage to counter him if all other roles have been filled thus far in draft?
I’d say Tassadar or Hammer.

Muradin is all about landing his Q so I say mobile mages are his kryptonite.
So…
The fact both can deal terrible damage for anyone who isn’t busy stutter stepping is a bonus.

Orphea would come to mind first. If you land your skillshots you can kite him and minimise the value he gets.

Guldan is also a great one. Just won a game bc a stacked muradin, yrel, tass, and abathur tass all jumped me and i just horrified them with armor reduction. Drain life helps you lose slowly to divers so you can dump your abilities on backline then use w to remain alive. By the time enemies can kill you your team has arrived and its all over.
Jaina counters every tank

She doesn’t counter Anub’arak as much as the other tanks, but she is definitely the most reliable mage when it comes to making a tank’s life difficult.

Her full combo wont do very much damage against Mura especially if he’s in Avatar, but it’s hard to think of any mage who would.
Jaina with full Q build could keep spamming decent damage and slows at him though.
If mages with AA builds don’t count (like Falstad) and it must be a spell caster (or a spell build), the only hero that could reliably keep chucking nukes at him (and deny Second Wind) healing is Chromie, but that would require extraordinary aim.
Another one would be Ming, but getting constant W cooldown resets against a diving Muradin could prove difficult. Spamming calamity or close range missiles at him wouldn’t do much either.
Orphea is a great candidate as long as the player can keep up constant Q hits without a single miss.
But this is all just theorycrafting, as Muradin can counter a lot of mages and nobody generally drafts mages to counter tanks.
Tanks aren’t really countered. You can only opt for % health damage skills.
You don’t pick a Mage to counter Muradin. If you’re trying to counter Muradin pick a tank buster.

Tassadar is a good choice. I’ve always been annoyed by Jaina and her slows when playing Muradin.

He is a tank, granted a niche tank that’s really only good vs melee heavy comps, but then again most of the tanks are niche tanks.
Orphea is not actually a good counter for muradin, as her abilities require her not to be stunned to cast, and mura not only has a fast stun but can also follow it up with another stun if he picks skullcracker at 7.
Tbh I would say jaina is solid if you can get up iceblock in a reasonably quick timeframe.
