Long story short I had a relativity new player say “Top” at the start of a match. He was already top so I thought he did not want to solo lane by himself.
Thus I want to him, but when I did he got very angry and started insulting me. Nothing special, he just called me dumb and said I didn’t know how to play the game. He also said some other stuff but they are not important.
He then tried to start a new match but just came back to this one. So he just sat in spawn the entire game.
So what does it mean when someone says “Top”? Does this mean they got the top lane?
dont worry about him, everyone learns game jargon. I didn’t know what oom (out of mana) was until like 3 years into the game. Until I asked what it was cause online google didn’t tell me.
Also, that player was maybe farming for stacks that’s why he wanted you out of his lane.
I suppose that’s exactly what he meant and he got angry, because you were disturbing him, because he want solo top. Yeah it’s stupid and I guess he’s from LoL, because I remember that there the top lane is also a solo lane, that’s why he got mad about you.
Because there is another lane, you don’t have in hots, called: jungle. It’s basically walking around camps and do them. That means 1 (solo top), 1 mid lane and 2 bot lane.
You can tell with 99,99% certainty that player came from LoL, because in blind Normals (roughly equal to hots QM) you announce your lane in advance.
If they get upset just ignore them. You don’t necessarily have to do that in HotS, just go to the upper gate if you intend to solo lane.
It’s just how it’s generally agreed upon to work in HotS, but in theory there is nothing to stop the 4 man from being top and 1 bot. That would of course force the other team to change as well (or both teams trade forts).
To put it shortly, it’s bad if the enemy are pushing as four on the other lane while you have 2 people top…
Their solo laner may be able to deny both of you alone, but the 4 man on other lane will probably kill your fort vs 3 defenders, so it’s not a very good idea to go top if someone is already laning there.
I dont know your country, but if a dutch person is saying that to another dutch person, it becomes even more confusing (and google will realy not help you). As oom is the translation of uncle for dutch.
Could also explain the toxic behaviour when this is standart knowledge in LoL. Expecting other to understand this aswel. And even more why he went to this game as i suspect there is a ban going on for him for abusive behaviour in LoL aswel.
If people do not say anything when naming a lane, do at most consider that lane a point of attention. In this example he should have been saying “solo top”, “1 more top” or “all top” to be clear. Just because thats how this game goes.
Wow this destroyed my faith in this playerbase a bit. If you’re helping out your team when they need it and listening to their calls for help you’re leagues better than many players. Sorry he just failed at communication 101
You know how braxxis has the big merca camp on the left side, and the smaller merc camp on the right side? It’s one of the maps where the opportunity isn’t the same on both sides.
For LoL and Dota, it’s kinda similar in that the ‘top’ for one side of the map isn’t the same experience for ‘top’ on the other side of the map. With those games, players need to last-hit minions (Creeps) to get money to buy power, so having a ‘solo’ in a lane means they can get gold without having to compete against their ally. ‘Top’ is prefered as that’s a safer lane in Dota/lol as the positioning of the tower is closer to the minion/creep spawning point, so they can wait for the enemy way to come to them, and they can safely last-hit minions near their tower. (Top or bot being the ‘safe’ lane depends on which side of the map your team is on)
So not only does the lane call for “top” indicate they don’t know how exp works in HotS, the lack of noticing the difference in how frequently minions arrive to the clashing point of the lane which probably suggest they don’t know why lanes are the solo lane in LoL/Dota either, and they’re just going through the motions.
And so long as they can get angry and blame someone else, that’s just a list things they’re not going to notice themselves, but it’s clearly someone else’s fault now
