The way she plays now in’t very different than before her “rework”. Her abilities are the same, and she plays the same. In every other reworked hero, I could feel the change, not with Morales.
And I still find her boring to play. Am I missing something?
I think it’s just that they used the word rework for her changes when they could’ve simply done it like Falstad, Dehaka, and Artanis and call it a re talent or something with slight changes to her base kit.
This creates the expectation of something significantly changed in her, but I’d argue Artanis and Dehaka felt more changes than she did. I guess the word rework makes people think of something big being added, like some play making potential or a changed functionality of grenade to not be a meme anymore (justifiably so). Guess they didn’t really change her that much apart from modernizing her talent tree and giving her sustain talents
As Yusuke said, it’s more of a hero “touch up”, which honestly I don’t mind at all. Some of the “reworks” I like the best are ones like this with Lt. Morales, that freshen up talents and add more options, but retain the hero’s core play-style.
I wish there were more options! That’s the thing I don’t really like about the rework. The themed tiers are still very much in place and feel rather limiting and don’t change how you play too much (the 16s and Hospice care, are quite nice though). But the talents that were freshened up and given additional boosts will definitely help.
A lot of the problem with Morales before was because things were so heavily tier locked, there was very little synergy and she didn’t change her playstyle too much based on talents. On a hero that has limited AOE healing capability this really highlighted her late game scaling. Blizzard sort of sidesteps that problem by super charging additional bonuses onto talents in lieu of that synergy. You could see how that systemic that was on her 10s being underwhelming (though <3 Medivac). EX: Bloodlust vs Stim Drone.
But like I said in the patch thread, people that hate Morales, will still hate Morales. And that is fine. While I detested the Gazlowe rework, I don’t at this Morales rework even if there are some things that are disappointing. Honestly, as Phaseshifter is someone who struggles with healers, and devalues team fights and micro, I’d be kind of scared to think of how much Morales would have to change in order for Phaseshifter to like it. That’s probably not a Morales I’d want to play.
*I gave you a like, but not for what you said about Phaseshifter, he seems to play many healers.
It’s often odd how much we agree on heroes and how many heroes we both have played as mains. I too have a great dislike for themed talent tiers, it often means less flexibility as you noted. I haven’t played enough yet with the good Lt., the few games I have leads me to the same conclusions you made in your post above.
So it’s not just me? There were so few dedicated Gazlowe mains before his rework, now suddenly everyone is a Gazlowe fan. I loved this hero from the start of HOTS and while I understand why they reworked him, I don’t like his play style anymore, even if it’s “easier” to get value from.
