Just wondering where and why Uther would ever choose this talent over the others. thanks.
According to Heroes Profile, Wave of Light has a 53% winrate overall and a 54% winrate in Master. It’s the least-picked talent overall but the most picked talent in Master by a vast margin. I don’t play Uther, but the data suggests it’s largely picked by good players.
Wave of Light is not very popular, mostly because it takes more effort to get value out of the talent. If you randomly spam W, you lose most of the value. I like it a lot in clumpy maps and comps, especially if I am facing blinds or attack speed slows that make it difficult to get value out of his AA talent. Part of the reason Uther is so good against burst damage is the armor, not the healing. Having the armor up on multiple heroes more frequently and for a longer duration can compensate for his lack of strong AoE healing. If I find that if the enemy team was smart and picked something like a Lunara to counter Uther, Wave of Light can help offset that advantage.
Not a pro Uther or even close to but I recently put him in my favorite purple man random for a month or two and I mostly pick Wave of Light in my QM matches due to several reasons.
- Hitting AOE heal is my kind of mini game since I play Auriel, so anticipation of pathing that allies will meet up is one of my things.
- Lower CDs of his W plus the benefit of the talent makes me able to heal more often, more heal and more shield.
- It is more versatile to me to make use of his W
- better in lane advancing, I deal extra little more dmg to their heroes and minions/structure while heal my team and minions, not many heroes can do it that way.
- it’s useful for checking bushes/reveal stealth hero, so if it’s hit you get both mana and CDs, so not really that wasting of ability.
- it heals yourself instantly with any direction you cast, no worry of mis-click/aiming, even you cast in panic, you always have full benefit, it’s mis-clicked proof.
That’s my take as why to pick W over the other in general.
Tyr’s Deliverance + Divine Protection
The loss of ding potential is felt in the soul.
I was going to post the third point as well.
You see this in very high tier games - people playing Uther healing up a lane when traveling elsewhere.
(Wave of Light didn’t always heal minions, I think - but it was buffed to do so years ago)
Not really a reason to pick the talent, but one of the small advantages.
