Uther is still one of the best solo healers in the game

I have to make some variation of this thread every 6 months because people seem to be unable to remember. I have used uther to get out of every single rank except for diamond so I know what I’m talking about. Uther can be the only healer on the team and he’s still one of the strongest healers in terms of winrate when played as such.

Uther demolishes dive and burst compositions. Demolishes. Your chances of winning if you draft either of those comps into him have decreased substantially. Burst mages like ktz and jaina rely on their dmg output to keep them alive. Their range is very short so they will always have to get out of position to land their combos. If they cannot get the kill not only are they useless in terms of dmg output, but they are also out of position and well within range of getting hit by uther’s tank. Same thing will dive comps that attempt to harass backliners. One obvious example is butcher. If you draft butcher into an uther he can easily cleanse your target, heal them to full, and then stun butcher until dinner time is over. This applies equally to tracer, zeratul, and tyrael.

In one patch a while ago the devs said that uther needs nerfs because his winrate was too high even when played as a solo support. This was before they buffed his healing significantly. His weakness to poke is greatly greatly exaggerated. I personally wouldn’t draft him as a solo healer on braxis/volskaya because those maps are pokefests, but this is because of the objective lengths more than anything else.

Half of the heroes needs substain to work with uther as a solo

i agree, the topic does not make sense to me

a holy light on a single target every twelve seconds just isnt enough to keep a team alive in general in 2021 with the amount of damage going on, the w also needs a perfect line up which isnt easy to get in a clumped fight

just because he can stun divers doesnt mean that necessarily helps

i play him like a bruiser as second healer

unless your teammates have self heals or sustain they’re going to mostly lose badly with solo heal uther

Yes this is an important addition but most of the solo laners/tanks have some sustain. About half of ranged “aa” do.

This rule is also less important if enemies dont deal alot of poke damage.

If there’s one risky pick for a solo heal it’s Kharazim (unless the player is godly), then there’s an even riskier solo heal pick called Uther.

I just don’t feel safe with him being the only healer around on our team. He is great to have on the team otherwise.

He does shut down melees and the cleanse is nice to have, but that doesn’t really make up for him being mostly a single target burst healer.

PS. I love Divine Shield and how it enables your own teams divers though, and can make clutch saves on people about to die to burst.

Did you make an uther tutorial?
I would be interested in seeing that to play him a bit more

But holy light isn’t his only healing? His w build allows him to heal his entire team every 8 seconds give or take. Not to mention the dmg mitigation aspect.

Its an attoment for your sins!!

very optimistic scenario, like “you can stun 5 people with mosh” or “you can spam pyroblast with the lv20 upgrade”

usually it will heal 2-3 people max if the stars align in a chaotic fight over an objective

You can say the same about literally every single heal skillshot. Healing 2-3 allies in danger is all you need to win a teamfight.

Also if your team cannot kill a butcher while he’s stunned in your own backline that says more about your dmg dealers than it does about uther.

He is never drafted as solo healer. He is drafted as off tank with a real healer on his team to heal while he act as a semi tank that also heals his team and peel for divers.

If you draft Uther to solo heal you play him wrong.

Because you need to attone for your sins

It’s 194 Health at lv1 though. Or 276 at level 10. It’s a very small heal. Able to erase a bit more than 1 auto attack (depends on who attacks).

It’s nice it can hit multiple allies but it’s still a very small heal on a fairly high cooldown.

(He’s actually one of my most played heroes, I love to heal with Uther, as long as we also got someone like Alex, Lucio or Stukov)

Thats about the same healing as anduins w. Wave of light is on a shorter cooldown.

Not to mention the armor it offers. Not to mention that healing numbers are not the sole way to judge how effective a healer is.

If it works for you its great and dont chance it
But my thing if your a bit higher where the AA heroes are great at constantly providing dmg. if its still a good choice

Uthers greatest weakness isnt burst dmg but tiny little bits of continious dmg

What most people miss about Uther as a healer is he has to be played pro-actively, not reactively, due to his armor mechanic. A good Uther will often use an ability on a target that needs the protection as much as the heal. Preventing damage properly means that there is less that actually needs to be healed. It is fairly similar to how Disc Priests used to work in WoW, in that your are anticipating damage patterns to make sure your team mates have protection before the pain hits.

It does help to have team mates who are good about not getting hit by avoidable damage, or some form of self-sustain, but Uther isn’t just about padding stats.

He can solo heal but it requires competent allies who don’t take damage or poke for no reason.

The only hero I truly hate facing with Uther is Lunara. I practically don’t want to heal with him at all if the enemy team has her.

If you dont think uther can be played as a solo healer you dont know how to play him. This isnt a debate they already released his winrate as a solo heal lol.

Uther is played very often in competitive matches in the highest ranks like CCL where everyone in the team understands how to play properly and how Uther works.
If you think Uther is a bad healer, you’re just not good enough to play with an Uther in your team.

To be fair, Uther is most often played as a main tank in those matches as part of a double healer comp. He is very rarely played as a solo healer. He is viable in SL, but as mentioned, his is a different play style and is a bit comp dependent, much like Morales.
