Unusual delay on BR server

Hello Blizzard,

I’m having a delay of ~135 ms while playing against BR server while I usually had 50 ms for years, from Argentina. This has been happening at least since a month ago, and happens to be randomly during the day, sometimes I have good 50 ms, but I’m usually having 135 ms, which is unplayable for a MOBA.

I’ve performed a test with WinMTR while the problem was happening, I’m showing the results (Your forum system doesn’t let me attach next data as .txt, nor I can share a link to it):

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

I’ll be looking forward for some response. Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

This sounds like the routing between your internet provider and the game server is changing, which can happen due to a number of different factors outside of your (or Blizzard’s) control. If it’s only happening during certain times of the day there may be something going on in the network during that time that is causing the route to have to be changed.

The best way to verify something like this would be to run connection tests during the times of low latency, and again during the times of high latency. This way you can look to see if the route is changing and verify where the problem is happening. Unfortunately just verifying something is happening doesn’t mean it will be an easy fix, but it could help point out the issue to the ISP to see if they can assist with looking into it further. I’m assuming the WinMTR above was run when the latency was high, since it shows 139ms when hitting the 52.93.44.95 Amazon IP.

The HOTS BR server is hosted on AWS (Amazon Cloud) in Brazil so the routing is going to be between the ISP in Argentina and AWS Brazil. You may be able to work around the problem by using a VPN or different connection (mobile data tether for example) to re-route the connection.

Hi jambrix,

Thank you very much for the quick response. I will do that, I will capture the connection with WinMTR when there’s no delay and compare both results to find out where the problem is. It could be that the issue is on the ISP side. Just wanted to report this, because even if it’s not your fault, someone else could be experiencing the same, and it’s worth you notice this. Cheers.
