This is the best Azmodan build

Been playing a LOT of Azmodan and I must say this is the best build. At least for QM. The reason is, in QM, single target damage and being able to secure kills is how you win the game. Doing a lot of AoE damage does NOTHING. You could have double the hero damage of your entire team and still lose because you secure 0 kills. Which is why this build has seen the most success in all of my Azmodan builds.

In other words, Globe build is CRAP because it does CRAP single target DPS and QM often puts you and Zagara-like hero as the sole assassins on your team. Wrath build is also CRAP because you cant secure any kills and you need a competent team to be able to land all those right clicks without dying or getting CCed, and even if you do land your right clicks, no kills. Which leaves Laser build.

The Laser build is amazing because…

  1. You only need 200 Annihilation. Going mad crazy to get 400 annihilation will make you lose the game due to over focus of killing creeps which makes you neglect moving as a 5man, neglect getting merc camps, or with wrath build, right clicking when you should be lasering. That and Pride is overrated. Heroes have like 6k health, doing 100-200 more damage doesnt accomplish anything.
  2. Buffed Demons win fights. 1v1 stacking multiple Demon Warriors with Hell Rift and Demon Lieutenant = win. No hero, not even tanks, can survive the DPS of multiple Demons in their face. That is the true power of Laser build. Spamming Hell Rift and stacking Demon Warriors. Tanks won’t even be able to kill a single Demon Warrior due to their tankiness. Very few heroes can match a Hell Rift Azmodan’s single target DPS. I would like to emphasize that Laser = TRASH without Hell Rift. Its literally the ability that pushes this skill from subpar to OP.
  3. Sin’s Grasp’s slow wins games. The slow ensures I will get my Hell Rift off 100% of the time if I’m not CCed. In addition it allows my teammates to continue wailing on the hero trying to run away. Secures kills, secures Demon Warrior spamming which in turns secures a hell of a lot of single target DPS, and best of all is independent of Annihilation. Getting interrupted is not a problem in QM. With correct positioning and counter-initiate-tactics you will never be CCed. And even if you are, who cares, your skill has a short cd. I cannot emphasize how games turn on this ability. I went from 1 enemy hero death per fight to 3-4 enemy hero deaths per fight and won the game.
  4. Insane merc killing power. Master of Destruction blows up Elite camps.
  5. Boss solo. Hell Rift->Demon Warrior->Hell Rift->Demon Lieutenant->Hell Rift->Demon Warrior etc. is how you solo bosses. Sin’s Grasp’s cd reduction is mandatory. You cut it close, and you gotta only have 1 demon out at a time because of the Boss’s AoE stuff, but do it right and you can solo bosses without Demonic Invasion.

Here’s the build.
1 Greed - 160-170 annihilation + Tide of Sin = Wave Wipe. Throwing these out across 2 lanes constantly is how you win the macro game with Azmodan. Laser getting a 25% range increase and demon warriors getting 25% attack speed is just a side bonus. Main reason for Greed is across the map wave clear a.s.a.p. You need literally 100 more annihilation (260) to accomplish this without Greed.

4 Hellforged Armor - Demon Warriors with no talents is total glass. You need them to be unkillable to stack them in a team fight.

7 Master of Destruction - Art of Chaos is terrible, Bombardment is terrible without Wrath, which leaves this guy. Blows up Elite Camps. Also blowing up a mage creep will net you 10 annihilation per creep wave. In addition generates Annihilation v.s. heroes.

10 Tide of Sin - I played with Demonic Invasion a LOT. But the 80 sec CD hurts it a lot, doesn’t really do that much fort damage, doesn’t do anything in a team fight (really, tanks shrug it off liek its nothing, and its really hard to trap anyone in it), and wave clear is how you win the push game, not fort damage every 80 sec (longer if your team has no map control). Greed + 160-170 annihilation = Push 2 lanes at once. This is how you start pulling your weight as Azmodan since Azmodan is a subpar fighter. Therefore it makes sense to get his wave clear up a.s.a.p. instead of super lategame.

13 Brutish Vanguard - Demon Warriors are now really hard to kill. The slow has won me a lot of 1v1s. Enemies can walk out of the slow range but the new Demon you throw in his face will slow him again. I have successfully kited Melee heroes to death. With Sin’s Grasp’s slow on top, your target will be crawling around.

***Important to note you can’t blow up mage creep anymore because they will die before you hit 2.5 seconds. So get your annihilation stacks by using Demon Warrior’s aura to get everyone’s hp low enough for a Tide of Sin blast.

16 Hell Rift - Literally the ability that wins you fights. I think I’ve talked enough about how amazing this skill is.

20 Sin’s Grasp - Literally the ability that wins you the game.

Gameplay is simple. Go crazy for 160-170 annihilation. Afterwards push two lanes with Tide of Sin while mercing or 5manning. At 16 gain confidence because you can win virtually every 1v1 and have enough damage in a teamfight to kill. At 20 start being a murder machine and carry your team.

This is a decent build. Though trample at 16 can replace sins grasp. I use it in ranked sometimes too! Its good on tomb of the spider queen! Much harder bc you have to time your e incredibly carefully in higher ranks. I agree with many of your points. Good on you for combining a few builds.

They just overnerfed his q. I can still do top dmg with him whenever i pick him but the burst in teamfights is a bit too weak, especially after 20

Yeep. But he is still STRONK when you meet 2 azmos vs you in brawl.

yes, azmo players, please listen to this man. globes are bad. definitely do not focus on getting 400 stacks. just stick to that laser, ok

You should definitely follow OPs advice to build lazer especially when you are in the enemy team…!

Yup, you get it. Globes are awful and only good for waveclear so getting any talents that make Globes do a small amount of more damage is not a good choice. You are gonna get at most 2 globes off in a fight hitting maybe a total of 4 heroes which is pathetic. So once you hit 160-170 no point in trying hard for more annihilation. Whatever you get from wave clear is enough and your efforts and TALENTS should be spent on objectives, teamfights, and mercs.

2-3 demons on a hero will melt them, causing them to flee, which they can’t because of Sin’s Grasp, therefore hero puddle is achieved.

I love the non azmodan mains laughing at this post when op clearly said it was for qm. Based on my own experience with him + statistics many of the e talents picked together are good.

I love Azmodan so I will give it a try.

To me the best Azmodan build is:

  1. “Static Charge”
  2. “Electric Fence”
  3. “Psionic Echo”
  4. “Archon”
  5. “Shadow Walk”
  6. “Psychic Shock”
  7. “Khala’s gift”

Good God electric fence is such a hot talent.

Wow you really talk the demon warriors up. Im going to have to review my replays to see what impact they make.

I kind of set and forget them. I don’t really pay attention to what theyre doing. When the azmo is on the enemy team i almost ignore the demons entirely (unless they interupt me capping). I notice zagara’s hydralisk, but the demons just feel like fodder.

Thanks for the post, ill have to take a closer look as im clearly not appreciating their value.

Let me give you some numbers.
At level 20 v.s. Diablo

Tychus kills Diablo in 9 seconds with Combat Tactician and Titan Grenade. Lost majority of his hp.

My build Azmodan kills Diablo in 11 seconds without using Globe. Barely lost any hp. With Tide of Sin Globe I killed him in 10 seconds. So as you can see, Globe really doesn’t do much v.s. heroes.

Laser build Azmodan with no demons kills Diablo in 22 seconds without using Globe. Lost most of his hp.

So as you can see

  1. Laser is truly trash without Hell Rift
  2. Demons do as much damage as Laser. They literally double your single target DPS to the level of tank buster Tychus’s DPS.
  3. Their slow and body blocking is to be respected.

I like to emphasize that no talent Demon Warriors are also trash. They die quickly, dont do that much damage, and you can only have 1 out at a time.

lies!!, lazer build is good everywhere too (rankds and unrankeds) i play a lot of azmodan build and lazer build is a bit risky but does a lot of dmg and secure kills as the op states…

I don’t see how stacking annihilation is hard; if you take gluttony you can rack up a good amount easily by hitting properly with your Q in objective fights.

If this works for you that’s fine, but I honestly don’t find these problems in QM much outside of the occasional “Go home matchmaking, you’re drunk” double healer/double tank matchups where you’ll be the sole assassin on the team.

Hitting 200 is easy. Hitting 400 before level 20 is hard. Wrath is fastest, Gluttony is slowest. Wiping entire waves at 170 annihilation is faster than Gluttony.
