The ultimate CARRYING guide! (for bronze-silver-gold)

Ok this is the ULTIMATE guide to get you out of ANY low league!! (bronze - silver mostly) and ANY hero
First off, why listen to me?
I’m level 414 currently, and at the start of this season, I was at bronze 5 0 points (not even kidding) and now I’m at gold 1. (hopefully will reach plat too since I still have 2 weeks)
Ok now for the guide, what you require to get out of the league you are right now?

  1. Don’t play healer.
  2. Carry.
  3. Play with a party.

Ok well the first one is pretty self explanatory, playing healer SUCKS, because the best you can do as healer is to just get slightly more damage done, and maybe focus heal more important people.
Playing healer 90% depends on your team and nothing to do with you. Don’t get me wrong, if your team doesn’t have a healer, go for a healer because its a loss otherwise, but if that’s not the case then try to avoid going healer.

But no.2, Carrying. there are a lot of variables in order to carry in low leagues, but to start it off, first you have to play a one hero that you enjoy a LOT, and I mean A LOT. (doesn’t matter the role)

Let me tell you about myself, I’m a Malthael main, until level 49 as Malthael, I only and only and only played one certain build, because I thought ALL of his other talents suck, at level 49, I realized that is NOT the case at all, and I understood that almost all of his talents are very viable. Also, Malthael is known for being only viable against HP-heavy heroes, but I still managed to carry my games without the need for that. I played a game against diamonds, and now I know what they meant that Malthael is ACTUALLy a trash hero, so I just wanted to say that even if your hero is bad, still, as long as u r having fun with it, and u enjoy playing it, and it fits your play style, play it, it wont matter in lower leagues.

What I meant by this was that you should find the best build for YOU. Don’t listen to other people saying whatever, do what YOU are more comfortable with, what YOU feel more safe with or what YOU can hit better. And this takes a long time to figure out, for any hero.

But I have to add this, you MUST learn more heroes, but you are better off to do those in an environment that is challenging, because that is where you REALLY get the true experience.

Ok now that you have done that, you have mastered the hero you play, you know the talents, where they are good, what maps, etc… etc…
Now its time to actually learn how to carry, and what I mean by carrying is basically playing like a decent plat player:

  1. SIDE STEP!!!
This step is VERY IMPORTANT. What does side stepping mean? To put it in simple, DODGE ABILITIES. Don’t let a liming orb hit you, don’t let a Leoric use his W on you, Don’t let a Mephisto stack CDR(cooldown reduction) on you. And on some heroes, don’t let them auto attack you. A lot of heroes get a lot of bonuses for auto attacking, like CDR or health regen, don’t let it happen, run or kite back that hero.

  2. DONT DIE!!!
Dying is SO BAD, so bad, even if its a kill for a kill. If you want to carry, dying is the worst thing that can happen to you, because you lose so much precious time that you could’ve done other things that your team will not do (soaking, obj, camps, etc…). Even for heroes with death time reduction, its still as bad as a hero without it, specially in bronze because a lot of people in bronze people are actually dumb, but silver people might listen to your pings.

  3. DON’T GET OUT-SOAKED!!!
Why did I say “don’t get out-soaked” instead of saying “soak”?
Because if you soak, you think you will get ahead in XP, but that’s not the case most of the time since your team WILL FEED without you, so for example when you see someone on the enemy team is soaking top, and its a 5v4 on obj, you get a kill, then rotate top and soak, to get the soak u lost back, AND you are a kill ahead + obj.
You might hear A LOT OF PEOPLE say “just double soak and ez win” but that was never the case. even in gold I see people wanting to fight for no reason, and since it can sometimes be a 4v5, your team will just die and blame you all the time for double soaking. Its EVEN WORSE in bronze.

  4. MAP AWARENESS!!!
Look at the map. Read that again, and again, and again. LOOK AT THE FRICKING MAP!! Don’t miss any movement, warn people when someone is moving for a gank, detect taking camps, see who is missing. This is very important because if you look at the minimap enough, you will never die to a gank ever again. And this helps massively with the no.2 point that I said. And even better, it WILL help people die less.

  5. COMMUNICATE WITH THE TEAM!!!
Don’t just run away in a teamfight, tell them them u r going to for example do a camp USING PINGS, try not to chat because that is a bad thing, unless its an important plan, or when u r dead. Use all the pings over there, they are all very handy, ALL OF THEM. Also while playing, if you saw someone do a good play, say “gj”, this will boost them so much for the entirety of the game, because they will feel watched, and feel good that they did something good and other people actually realize it and start playing better.

  6. DONT FIGHT WITHOUT A REASON!!
Is there an OBJ? Is there a camp being fight for? no? then spam V (to call for retreat) and soak a lane instead or take a camp, because the enemy team will be dumb enough to NOT do it and fall behind.

  7. USE YOUR ULTIMATE!!!
Your ultimate won’t stay with you for the next game, USE IT!! I see this mistake so often, like your ultimate is probably 60 second Cooldown, that is so low that you will have it back the next fight. don’t save your ultimate!

  8. TAKE CAMP BEFORE OBJ!!!
This is a very important step! About 20-30 seconds before the obj starts you should have your camp already done, that is gonna help you so much when playing the game, because if there will be a 5v5 on obj, the camp will push so hard, that the enemy might even LOSE A FORT for it!! It’s such a MASSIVE advantage!

  9. Have fun!
It’s very important that you enjoy the game, Specially if you master a certain hero, and when you start enjoying the game, you will go into auto pilot mode, and that’s the best thing that can happen, because there you will automatically soak, look at the minimap, take camps, go for the OBJ without even thinking about it, that’s why I said use a build that you truly enjoy, because that’s the best.

Anyways, this sums it up, this will take some time to do, probably 2-3 months, but as soon as you start doing all of these flawlessly, you will find yourself in plat in NO TIME!!! I’m not even kidding. I was still in bronze 5 about a month ago, and I’m in gold 1 in WEEKS.

Please like this post so more people can see it, share this with people you think will need this, and PLEASE comment your opinion, can always use a good advice! Also I WILL answer to all questions, so if you have any, please do ask!
And before saying “I already do all this I’m still stuck in bronze 5”, you don’t.

GL and HF, hope to see everyone where they truly belong!

  1. Party up with people whom you trust
With stacks being allowed again in ranked, playing solo inherently puts you at a disadvantage. Partying up increases your team’s ability to coordinate plays and theorycraft between games and learn from mistakes made. It also reduces the chances of trolls, toxic players and bad players being put on your team.
  2. Do not show on the minimap if you can do so without missing soak
If the enemy team does not know where you are, they won’t know the optimal places to position on the map. They could position too carefully and lose soak, or wander too far into a lane and become easy targets for ganks.
  3. Run around Butchering everyone
Works like a charm in low ranks if you know what you’re doing. It is harder to do at higher ranks, but there are two famous Butcher onetrick players on the EU server, whose mere presence in ranked games is responsible for the majority of Butcher bans in the highest ranks of SL. I am not kidding.

Playing in a 4-5 stacks with smurfs helps, too. When we check heroesprofile, we’d see that some have 50% WR as solo, but 75% WR with what I’ve mentioned.

I actually forgot to mention this, this is a very good way to get rid of bad players in a game

Instructions too confusing. Still not Plat yet.

And that’s how you end up with 5 ranged dps who can’t figure out how to do their job, which is damage.

Everyone thinks that they’re allstars at dps and then they suck because they thought they were ‘the one’. Nope, unless you’re truly tested, you’re not ‘the one’. Flex if need be and if someone sucks at dps, put them on ignore so you have a convenient list of who sucks at dps and therefore, who will fill non-dps spots the next time you encounter them.

4 - turn your chat off so you can actually enjoy the rank you get yourself into, after dozens of false chat reports for soaking.

Malthael is a good choise to rank up.
He has good camp taking potential.only lacks siege

I used jaina my 1st and 2nd try
Now on my 3rd attempt I used avelange mei zera AA tychus and minesweeper imperius. W build falstad

Its pretty succesfull
Doing it solo . Ignore all the salty comments where you cant climb solo

Ins’t there a saying like “everything works in bronze league”??

So just do everything and you should be fine xD

I feel like u understimate healers (they can set up kills and deal quite the extra dmg ifu know what u are doing) and healers as reghar can also take camps. But besides that nice guide

That’s true, but it’s possible, because healer is luxury in this leagues. I’d rather play with someone, who has >50 winrate with assassines than <40 with healer or tank. Many times I played healer or tank and I felt that the potencial was wasted, because our assassines couldn’t do anything, but ate every possible skillshot.

It’s possible with healers, but it’s harder.

Have you done it with healers?

Why didn’t I think of that? lol.

fastest bronze to masters was with healers tho, just play things like auriel or reghar

Rehgar I understand, but Auriel? Your healing is depended on your team doing damage… I would struggle at this. If anything I prefer Lucio or Kharasim.

yes a better dps helps but she can steal heal a lot, resurrection helps in low ranks and she can have waveclear with the right talents.

A very solid guide. Some people are though “stuck” in bronze but not for the reasons they would think. They can follow all the advice you provided, but the cold fact is practice and learning doesn’t always improve performance. Just as there are a small minority at the top, there are people who find their natural skill bracket at the bottom.

There should be no shame in this, especially if the person keeps trying to improve and learn. Life is unfair and we all have natural gifts and barriers to how well we will succeed or not in any given task or endeavor.

It should be noted too that for some reading guides and practice might not help on its own and they will need a human to personally coach them.

Also:

I await Volun to reply to this. I don’t think it’s entirely accurate, depending on your natural skill you can indeed carry with a healer. Sami carried himself from Silver to Diamond playing mostly Lucio.

Have you ever heard the prisoners dilemma, or at least its unmodified iteration? It goes something like two friends are sentenced to prison, each has two options, to confess or to not, if both confess they both get 5 years in jail, if one confesses and one doesn’t the one that confesses gets no jail time and the one that is silent gets 20 years in prison, if they both don’t confess they both only get 1 year in jail, they can’t communicate before the decision.

Game theory dictates you should always confess because on average it will benefit you more, as you don't know what the other person will pick.

Hots matchmaking is pretty much a more broad form of this, having 5 options instead of 2 (In roles), and on average healer benefits the player playing it the least in early leagues, and 5 assassins is a risk (like the 5 year prison sentence in the dilemma) however it is on average outweighed, because no one has any idea how to help their healers help their team.

I’m a master player and I actually think this is a pretty good guide. Everyone wants to play DPS but you hit the nail on the head with your other points about making sure your soaking, doing camps, map awareness and the point about not dying because your teammates are worthless at low ranks is very key. DPS has far and away the highest impact on a game because Tanks and Healers are just as if not a little more important in a team fight. Outside of team fights though tanks and healers are virtually worthless at taking camps and clearing waves compared to a competent DPS. Which throughout the whole game playing a competent DPS role will help you carry much harder on the Macro side of the game.

hahahahahahaha i laughed so hard on this.

Rehgar yes, Auriel NOT AT ALL

Everyone is having a problem with me saying that you can’t carry with a healer. I know you can, but for the most part you will stay where you are because healers are a team hero, if your team is bronze, you will always stay in bronze no matter what happens, because you must always follow your team.
