The Troll Problem

Blizzard, please start a widespread ban campaign against people who are trolling, feeding and standing/walking afk the whole game. I know you ban players, but its clearly not enough.

And do not only ban the account of someone, but the ip as well. The best would be to ban such people from all Activision Blizzard Services.

None of these players are healty for any of your games. The time to act is NOW!

but then there won’t be any players left

Problem is you would need real people checking the AFK reports and not automated system.
Also you would need to change the report system to ā€œreports per gameā€ from the current ā€œreports over timeā€.
Afkers/feeders/trolls usually don’t play enough to be catch in the reporting system the way it is now.

No.
The last time they did a group ban a lot of good players left because their friends got banned or because they just disagreed with the poor manner in which blizzard handled the situation.

How about blizzard implements a positive player feedback option. Success breeds success.

It is frustrating, but you really can’t stop it, because it is not as easy to figure it out as you think.

How can you determine what a troll is?
How can you determine what a ā€˜feeder’ is and not a bad player?
How can you determine what an AFKer is and not a player with connection issues?

But I think much more people left because of trolls and jerks.

If you compare it to the real world: No one would think that malls would be abandoned if you dont let people in who trolls or bully other customers.

And that’s what game companies need to understand. They loose much more paying customers if they dont act.

It’s the number one problem of online gaming!

That’s the excuse bullies always use

IP banning is just as useless as suggesting ā€˜surrender’.

You have been able to circumvent IP bans with vpn:s in 2 seconds for about 15 years now. It’s not a solution to anything.

Phone verification can be circumvented too but it would slow them down a lot.

I think there should be something that would allow the trolls/afks/flamers who constantly get reported to all get put on the same ā€œplaceā€. Almost like their own ā€œpunishment serverā€.

Something along theses lines.

… Am I the only one who read the title and expected to see a post about Zul’jin?

I think the devs should do monthly ban waves for trolling and afk/leavers.

Here is a great idea: You know how when you leave a match and get ā€œbannedā€ and you will have to win x matches with leavers in order to get unbanned? Well… why not do that with trolls too? I’m pretty sure it’s very easy for them to come up with a system that matches trolls against them.

The though part is that it’s hard to tell when someone is trolling or somesuch.
The report system tries to represent a good balance between the extremes of being trigger happy or too forgiving.

Unfortunately people report each other randomly, instead of discussing with said party what happened and then discussing compensation, such as exchanging a skin or handing out some gold. Like in real life. You rarely hang people, you rather ask for money.

Sometimes you get countered. You look like a troll, but it’s just rock-scissor-paper doing its job.
Losing your pick happens as well, sometimes leading to instant draft wins.

Not to mention brawl, where anyone who plays melee is just useless. Anyone who plays that mode is a troll by definition. There are maybe 3 heroes balanced for constant PvP, the rest is either OP, UP or situationally either. (E.g. after the last match I have a good point that (1) Kerrigan needs a 5x health boost (2) Tassadar needs a 50% damage nerf, and the only trait talents should remain (3) Stukov needs to lose his silence and (4) Muradin needs to lose his Q.) Thus, you are either a griefer by winning or a griefer by feeding.
(No, I’m not seriously serious, but you see the point I guess. Hence, reports filed in Brawl belong to /dev/null. Literally should not be considered. Well, maybe if you earn 4+ reports in 5 matches a row.)

I thought this was gonna be about Zul’jin getting his much needed nerfs :rage:

doesnt matter anymore. i quit today and so did all my friends. so play your troll alone

I be watchin’…

Depending on your provider and connection you don’t even need a VPN to change your IP address, some automatically change every time you restart your computer without any effort from the user.

We’ve talked about this before, it’s a far better idea than the just bringing out the big stick. I had friends who were master players leave because of the chat rules they were sent by GM’s on their chat violation ticket. The rules were very broad and can get you a sanction just because you talked strategy. Remember too people were once chat silenced even with chat disabled until Blizz changed it.

I’m sure they could write a reliable algorithm to detect the most blatant of AFK and intentionally dying behaviors. Other games already have this and they aren’t AAA companies like Acti-Blizz.
