And we’re still here… Just to suffer…
The only reason i despise the HOTS Reddit is because the developers are just so much more active there. “Oh, because more people use it uwu!!” yeah, and that’s the bad thing
They should be sending people from Reddit to here to participate, not vice versa.
And when was the last time we got a Dev post on the forums? A month?
And I bet you the next time they do actually say anything will probably be on a fluff/feelgood thread with no meaningful content.
Yep, I’m all for them posting a little less on Reddit and a little more here at least, like I don’t know, trying to find a balance. We’re not asking them to outright quit answering on Reddit.
They answer to the smallest of things there while passionate discussions here get completely overlooked, on a platform Blizzard themselves made nonetheless.
The only reason why my Reddit account exists is because I wanted to ask something in the last AMA. I finally got myself to like browsing Reddit from time to time but it was all because this one AMA.
*A fallen brave warrior
Ok I feel really stupid writing that, its nice to see some dev activity at least today, we got a lot of info, but wish we saw the same thing here a little bit more.
People should just be thankful to the devs for actually being active somewhere and talking to us.
Idk, I feel like people are just like “if a dev answers something on reddit it means it’s just for reddit and we are left alone”. Like, the answer is for everyone, EVERYONE. Just go there sometimes and look around, it doesn’t hurt you. I also don’t like reddit, but it is much much much much much much bigger than these forums.
Not liking reddit or any other forum is fine, just don’t cry saying we’re left out here.
Less “talk” and more potatoes ban!
I personally don’t like the flow of reddit threads. Sometimes it’s hard to tell if it’s a new response or not. I prefer using official forums or 3rd party sites like mmo-c (although i haven’t touched that in years).
Did you see my post above?
I’m just saying that there are things on Reddit that are of, imo, very little interest and get answered, while topics here that are more than worthy of an insight from the devs are left unanswered. I’m all for finding a balance and I’m all good with devs giving us insight into their work on Reddit or anywhere else. I’m just pointing out that there is a flagrant and quite bitter difference of treatment when it comes to dev answers on both platforms. You’d need to reach a stellar level of interest/urgency on the topic you’d want to talk about if you want to have a dev answer here, while “Oh ZJ is interrupted when bla bla” is recognized and answered on Reddit. This forum has its perks and a lovely community, and needing to leave for a bigger, third-party structure to fetch bits of information doesn’t feel quite good.
*Community wants devs to talk to them.
*Devs don’t want to talk to them.
“You’re not being left out”.
The problem with Reddit, or rather the problem with Reddit being the primary place where Blizzard gets its feedback, is how its setup.
The way how upvoted comments go to the top is the problem.
It might make sense for a place where you go to read fun stuff, but the truth is not always fun or popular or interesting.
This results in people being slowly but surely … “brainwashed” into being as “likable” as possible, since if you wish for your comments to be read, you must get more upvotes. And if you don’t get any upvotes or on the flipside you get downvotes, then NO ONE will read your posts.
It’s an incredibly unintuitive place for discussion and idea mingling. It causes a heavy mob mentality and an unnecessary drive to post “upvotable comments”.
Just my 2 cents.
I’ve never been interested in Reddit nor have I used it barring just a quick search for something out of boredom.
I do also have a bit of a bias towards Reddit, since one time when I was playing Diablo 3, I saw some guys “discussing” in general chat, and one guy said “I’m a moderator on Reddit so my opinion is worth more than yours”
I can’t quite take Reddit as seriously after that.
I’ve often wondered if there is a legal reason why dev posts here are infrequent and/or heavily PR edited.
Like maybe a post from an employee on a website the company owns opens them up to legal challenges or restrictions they just don’t have to deal with if the same thing is said on a third party website.
I don’t know, I’m not a lawyer, and not an American, but if that were the case it would make the Reddit preference make sense.
I am almost certain this isn’t the case. The only thing that I ever saw that came close to this was Terran Gregory defending Jessica price in his claim that they legally had to say where they worked.
Which I’m inclined to press x to doubt. I’m not lawyer either, but not sure why any government would require that disclosure unless they were being paid specifically to promote it.
Matt Villers said they didn’t do it because it wasn’t their job to. That’s all they don’t do it because they don’t want to. I miss Matt.
At last they should keep an updated, sticked, topic here where they link any info shared on Reddit that may be relevant to the game.
Even locked if they are afraid of trolls and flamers: just give us the same informations than Reddit.
We’re on Blizzard official board after all, we at last deserve a bit more consideration.
It’s not irony. Reddit has much more constructive content posted on it, and thanks to the upvoting and downvoting system, unconstructive and troll posts get downvoted. It’s genuinely a better forum for actual discourse with the playerbase. This is true on ALL of Blizzard’s official forums.
These forums aren’t moderated well (if at all) and the structure of the forums doesn’t filter out trolls, so why WOULD Blizzard post here? Also, Reddit is international. Players in all regions post there. These forums are just for the US.
Reddit is just better. I only post here because I get bored and like to smack down bronze level balance whiners. Reddit is where all of the real talk happens.
This would be true if Reddit’s upvote and downvote buttons had not been reduced to “agree” and “disagree” buttons. To quote someone else in this thread:
I know from firsthand experience. Thoughtful and constructive posts often don’t get the most upvotes. There have been plenty of times in the past when I’ve made a post that was objectively true, yet it was downvoted to oblivion because the “hive mind” didn’t want to hear it. It’s far from a perfect system for discussions.
This is so sad. What a weird reason to be jealous lol.
And yeah, post and content quality is much higher on reddit.
“Backseat moderation is what makes a great forum.”
I’m saving this one for the collection.
Not technically wrong. Devs apparently post game effecting polls there. That’s pretty good content.
Most ideas, concepts and suggestions posted on the Reddit board seem like they were written by AI mains or Bronzes. I feel like the people posting on the official forum are generally more proficient at the game. (Not always, there are some good Master players like Elitesparkle posting on reddit as well)
Imagine if someone from dev comes into our art posts and says something like “Good job dude. Game won’t die because such people like you”.
But… I guess it won’t happen, yes?
