The final breath of hots

I believe hots has officially died. It has lasted a good long while but every game I have played recently, every allied member has become one with the low IQ side, taking 1v5s, not knowing basic map rotations, using ults on camps, etc. I would be fine with this if the community was actually willing to learn, but they’re not. Every teammate, no matter how long I remain calm, no matter what I say, refuse to attempt to even become semi-aware of basic concepts in this game. For those of you who say go to ranked, ranked is infected with those types of people and the ranking system has made gms plats, and bronzes masters. This game has had so much opportunity and so many chances, but it has officially became the safe haven of mobas where the players that refuse to learn and sometimes even cant inhabit. As for the cherry on top, the only good games anyone above wood league can get is in a five man, which due to matchmaking means you could be waiting 5 to 30 minutes just for a qm. Hots has become the place where someone wanting a decent game can no longer remain. I believed there to be a chance still after HGC shut down, but after the few months of just seeing the community devolve to not even care about the game has done it. Every game now, does not matter your skill level, you can be matched. Dislike this if you want, but this is how it is. Blizzard has made a truly beautiful game, then destroyed it, and made a community that is soft and then toxic towards advice of any nature. No matter what blizzard does now, no matter how much the community works towards bringing back this game, hots is known now forever as the laughing stock of mobas, and will forever be.

Please watch this video. 1:12-1:30 is EXACTLY what you’ve just done.
“I’d say the biggest reason for a person calling a game dying is that they have simply stopped enjoying it. This makes sense, it’s a passionate statement to call a game dead. But simply because a person no longer finds a game enjoyable doesn’t mean that the entire game has died.”

Edit: added quote.

First there is quite a difference between calling a game like apex dead when it has millions upon millions of players, and calling hots dead, which has had its esports shut down, massive amounts of players leave, and all around generally laughable comp mode. I am claiming that this game is dead because of how silly it has become. The only players left are the extreme casuals who don’t understand the game, and the veterans that refuse to give up this game. Also according to that video, its talking about games that have just been released, like apex, hots was released more than 4 years ago, it has had its ups and downs, and it has reached the rock bottom.

can confirm from person experience.

to much of the playerbase is hyper casual. it’s really a sad thing.

I’ve been playing Heroes of the Storm since November. It has won me over as a passionate Diablo fan. I truly love this game and play it daily. I’ve probably spent around $400 on HoTS in half a year. I just purchased another $50 bucks in gems last night.

I only play versus the AI as I learn every hero and play at my own pace. I don’t know if I’ll ever play in a group. I’d like to maybe find one friend to play with against the AI and perhaps work my way up from there.

I’m indeed a casual gamer for both Heroes of the Storm and Diablo 3. I’m in my late 30s and I can’t play 24-7 like I used to do with Diablo 1 and 2 as a teenager, or in my 20s. But the good thing is casual gamers like me are also willing to spend some money to support the company and game. It’s not all bad.

I enjoy playing these games and I hope the developers keep adding to it no matter what happens in the future. Not all of us want to play in ranked matches. I have a ton of fun playing against the AI and buying things. I play Heroes of the Storm in my own way and I enjoy doing so. This game makes me smile and feel good. It’s 2:40 AM here and I’m starting my weekend off getting a couple more matches in with Kerrigan and Cassia.

If you think the game is dead, go play other games. No one is keeping you. Promise.

We all respect the opinion of someone who posted twice (both toxic)

I mean why are you even here. You want a passionate community to convince you other wise? Or do you want to be a person who tells a passionate fanbase that they should stop playing the game?

All the smart players left back in December. If you’re playing for any reason but to stomp people in QM, you’re playing the wrong game.

All of your arguments based on people’s reactions and inability is eligible for every single existing game out there.

Ever tried playing pvp in WoW? Random groups still can’t figure out the basics.
You can keep writing in chat to call miss or ask people to go defend x and y, but they don’t.

Like in AB, you either decide to defend the first base yourself or leave it unguarded because there’s a miniscule chance anyone else will. Despite how properly guarding it and calling for help can really make you win in AB.

All I see is whining about people being bad which has nothing to do with the game itself or blizzard. That’s just people being stubborn and foolish. Nothing has changed in that respect competitive team games over the internet became a thing.

Also this might surprise you, but it’s common knowledge that the plebs come out during the weekend; all the working dads and busy people finally have some time to play hots which they suck at because they aren’t big gamers and they barely have the free time to play.

Most people know not to play ranked during weekends due to this and to lower their expections of their games.

I haven’t played all that much in the last couple of days but other than that I’ve had games that were just fine.

Either you don’t play the game or you just called yourself stupid.
In the first case then why are you even here? If the second then well done idiot

And a quick edit:

The game isn’t dead until the servers are shut down entirely.

Until then the game is alive, even if it’s on lifesupport.

Your claim that the game is dying is because you personally stopped enjoying the game for whatever reasons. We don’t need your silly, illogical, non-scientific rant.

2010: “Team fortress 2 is dead”
2012: “Team fortress 2 is dead”
2013: “Team fortress 2 is dead”
2015: “Team fortress 2 is dead”
2019: The game is still well alive

Team fortress might have recieved an update to apply matchmaking, but that was only a reason because the game was losing a lot of players again. It became too difficult for decent players to find other decent players.
That game has been on life support for years, and they still recieve content even though its usualy just cosmetics, community made maps, and some balance fixes.
It was even that heavily on life support that they forgot to activate the birthday event once (i guess coding was too expensive here?).

For hots this “life support” can still work to extend the duration of the game by several years. As long as they make sure to keep things in the game fresh.

So even if people keep saying it: its only dead when the servers are shut down.

There will always be players playing, and even with just 1000 players, it can still be fine. Its just that those with too high or low skill arent going to enjoy it anymore. Its the same reason i stopped playing TF2, but i definitely will not say that game is dead.

I just want to point that community cosmetics also exists in HotS but its hard to notice by the majority, for example one obvious content is Carbot, there’s also Alarak of the Storm from Twitter who also contributed in adding content specifically in Sprays (confirmed by having similar art style for both the content on their page and in game) similar to Carbot.

What HotS need to do is to expand by giving us some sort of creation kit which could result in creating content for the game, more specifically in skins, maps, maybe brawls, etc.

What Overwatch did not so long ago with the Workshop is a great example of expanding endless content creations, the idea is that great to the point some players are creating an FPS based MOBA in Overwatch called DOTAwatch.

Stop looking for loopholes, you’re calling the game dead because you don’t enjoy it anymore. Just move on and let us enjoy it while we still can.

Well for one, what makes a difference if I have only posted twice? That just shows an illogical thought train that is trying to minimize me because I say something you don’t like, and how passionate is the community if most of it refuses to even ATTEMPT to learn the basics or take feedback?

Every month of every year for the last 2-3 years people have been saying “this game is dead” or “this game is dying”.

Just quit it already… The game is not dead nor is it close to it.
The frustration of the MM system However, that prevents good players from climbing the ladder in a legit way being bound by the law of “teamplay” is causing people to hate the game as they call it “dead”.

The game is not dead… but the MM system is outdated… it NEEDS innovations. 50/50 is like a communism. Everyone has to share the same cake equally.
The good player wins with good plays and gets rewarded with the same slice as the troll player causing a loss. The MM system needs to be changed so it rewards good play, i’ve been saying it for years… We need to have hots tone down the emphasis on “teambased” abit so that carrying bad plays (forcefully given to you throu MM system) becomes possible.

At best, this is a thread someone posted that wanted to hear only agreement with their idea… And doesn’t understand that their idea, at best, is controversial… with little evidence supporting it, and just as much supporting the opposition.

At worst, this is a troll thread.

Either way, no discussion will be found here.

I don’t know if it is dying but it feels that way. I didn’t think so at first but I see more and more people leave. I have also noticed people care less and less about macro and just want to brawl.
I really hate to say it’s dying but I really do hope it doesn’t die. I’m not 100% enjoying the game right now (I am playing less and less and struggle to come back everytime) but I know it can be great. I don’t think it will be viable the way it is going, though I don’t mind them slowing down the hero release.

I completely disagree, all evidence of the past year has pointed towards the death of hots and yes we all define the death of a game differently but for the decent skilled player and above I believe this is it. Also I knew this was very controversial or would at least get a lot of backlash in this because after all the majority of the community now is what I mentioned. My hopes with this post is that it would wake up any last few people that value their time and move on.

TBH, a lot of people didn’t care much for it. The forum frequenters did and do, but the other 80%+ of the other population who just ready up for one or two QM and have fun, didn’t bother.

This game was set as a casual game can be from the get-go, they added ranked wayyyy too late and 2.0 aka, the “pro” version, stuck it into a weird spot.

This is exactly how i feel about HotS. I used to play PvP on alpha, beta and when it released but no longer. Been playing vs AI for years now and i still enjoy it. Its so relaxing and fun.
Cheers :+1:

Search youtube… while they aren’t heavily promoted, there ARE teams playing competitively… a few months ago there were even nations playing in the Nation’s Cup. Blizzard ended the HGC, which was just Blizzard organizing things themselves, but there was nothing keeping players from organizing their own. And since when did the end of a competitive scene spell the end of the game? Oh, that’s right, we all know that CoD became the pinnacle of the FPS genre for so long because of it’s competitive e-sports scene that started with CoD4.

Troll posts start controversial posts just for the sake of getting people riled up. This thread fits closely to that definition. And this is all besides the point, you’ve made your conclusion, you act on your own conclusion and leave the game without looking back. That’s one less player ‘in a dying game’ anyways.
