The Azmodan Guide

First im a Silver Player with (roughly 300 Rankedgames 60% wr) so this Guide might not apply to higher levels of play.

Basic Abilities and Introduction

Azmodan is a Ranged damage dealer (DD) of the mage sort.
Weaknesses:
  • Lack of any escape tool/movement Ability (he has a single lvl 16 but more on that later)
  • Can be Manahungry (depending on build and Playstyle)

Strengths:

  • AoE (both for Waveclear and Teamfight)
  • Siegeing and Pushing lanes

Abilities
Q- Globe
Hit heroes or kill minions with it to Increase Dmg
You may want to use it’s long Range to push lanes without having to move all the way to them or to interupt Objektives (Tribute, Seed or Webweavers)

W- Demonwarrior
Use him to tank Tower Shots, Summon him while standing IN the enemy wave to damage all minions more equaly (as he has a small AoE Burn) so you get more of those sweet Q stacks. His low mana cost allows him to be also used for Scouting Bushes or in Teamfights without draining a ton of Mana.

E Laser
Laser is harder to use than his other abilities as you have to get close to the target and the full channel gives an extra Dmg. Use only when you think that you can Laser the target to the end and his escapes are on Cooldown. Don’t worry if youre Playing Orb build.

D the Cooler demonwarrior (im not looking up the name rn)
Use him right when the Top or Bottom lane waves meet (during the first fight mid).
Push lanes that you are not on with or use him to defend (or attack with) camps he won’t kill them but he will slow them down giving you time to react or slightly reduce dmg to structures when you can’t realy leave to def (e.g fighting over obj).

Maps:
All are fine though I would not play him on BoE as he isn’t the best racer can’t talk about BhB or Haunted because I don’t play these maps (I play QM rarely at most).

Builds for Copy and Paste (In order from Most used to least used by me)

  1. Laser Siege [T1231224,Azmodan]
  2. Q build with more push and better Waveclear [T2322313,Azmodan]
  3. Straight Q build (mostly for ARAM) [T2212313,Azmodan]

Talents: (?? Means not enough Data) realy depends on Build more on that now

:red_square: Army of Hell Double Summon double CD
:yellow_square: Battleborn CDR for summons (when AA)

:green_square: Master of Destruction Laser Explodes Q the Wave then Laser the Mage or one of the ranged minios Boom wave cleared Stacks earned
:yellow_square: Art of Chaos the Normal Globe one enjoy Aram or endless teamfights with all the extra mana
:yellow_square: Bombardment AA stacks and range (the Purple one) I think this synergizes with the level 4 CDR and I like it as a Magey yet solid Push/Lane Option with Gluttony on 1 and Chain of Comand on 13

:green_square: Tide of Sin deletes wave and Squishy heroes but does Increase mana usage take Art of Chaos on 7 if you feel that by picking Bombardment you run out of Mana
:yellow_square: Siege Demons Less Teamfight value use it to take down exposed forts or Keeps in cobination with your summons and clearing enemy wave

:green_square: Chain of Command I think buffing mercs and minios to push lanes where nobody is on is better than the extra HP but I haven’t tested Brutish Vanguard enough
:yellow_square: :question: Cydae’s Kiss I take it in Laser build but im not sure if the Channel reduction or the Heal make a big difference

:question: Trample (If you need level 16 to play the game you shouldn’t have picked Azmo here)

:question: Siege Demons Ult Upgrade (I don’t get to the point were I can sneak up on Core for to utilize this and Demons kill Forts/Keeps pretty fast anyway)
:green_square: If stacked greater AoE. Makes globes even harder to Dodge also allows to hit Catapults and all minions in a Wave
:green_square: Tide of Sin Upgrade Zoning slightly extra dmg between this and AoE uprgrade it’s a question of preferences and whether or not you have stacks
:yellow_square: Laser Upgrade Strong in Laser build else it’s meh

Thoughts? not as in Detail as the Inspiration post but honest work

How do you Counter Azmo?

Hero Picks:
Garrosh (once you throw him he can’t run away)
Stitches (same as garrosh but with Hook)
Dehaka use your E to counter Laser or dodge Globes

Diving Heroes (they usualy don’t have the power to 100% to 0 % kill Azmo but if 2 or more work together and Gank him):
Tracer, Genji, Greymane, Diablo or Anubarak

But im in QM what now? (general advice not bound to hero)

  • Don’t Clump together

  • Pick Spellarmor talents or use Stasis to avoid his Tide of Sin Q don’t use it on regular Globes unless he picked the other Ult

  • In Teamfight or when Laning against him try and save one Movement ability incase you want to get away from Laser or a Globe

  • For melee heroes: try and Bait his laser to then move out of range and engage after canceling his laser.

  • Kill the Demons he summons with his Ult it wll help save a Fort/Keep

  • Gank him

  • or just sidestep duh

Remeber the Code is more what you’d call guidlines than actual rules :pirate_flag:

I find Zeratul wrecks azmo. W and AA build beats him 1 on 1 very easily as he can dodge all Azmo’s abilities and stick to him like glue, I have no trouble shutting down a split push Azmo with him. If I catch Azmo near my towers and he doesn’t have any help from his team mates he isn’t getting away alive. Azmo is also a big target to help proc Q 16 in Q build team fights.

I dont have much of an issue with Leoric and Imperius shutting down split push Azmo as well but he gets away more often than with Zera (still not that often).

They both have percent damage, slows. Their ults Leoric with tomb and Azmo is really easy to hit Azmo with Imperius kidnap ult.

Totaly agree forgot to mention them

Malthael can also give Azmo a hard time. Between his % damage, ability to clean up summons (while healing off them!), general stickiness, several options to counter the laser, and his ability to respond to or create macro pressure can reduce Azmo’s effectiveness on large maps. And in a 1v1, Azmo simply doesn’t win.

If we are just talking about split push playstyle I actually think a good raynor is more annoying to shut down.

Azmo is more straight forward but a good Raynor is harder to kill with his E, Q and smaller hitbox than Azmo. Also if it’s late game and you are trying to protect your last keep, Raynors 20 with reduced death timer and casting hyperion on death makes it even more difficult to defend.
