For the love of GOD can someone please update the team comp algorithm for Heroes of the Storm? I just played a game where 3/5 team members were doubled on both teams. Two Novas, two Tassadars, and two DVas. This kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME. WAY too much doubling. You’re telling me there was no one else playing in the world that was playing different people? Also, there have been WAY too many games where we are absolutely wrecked in team comp. Pretty much 9/10 games. Every now and then I’ll get an actually well balanced team. I love this game and have been playing it for 8 years, but I am extremely tired of knowing we are going to lose the second I see the teams before we have even loaded in. And it is no fault of our own, just the team selection algorithm screwing us over. I am begging someone, anyone to take a look at this algorithm and make some adjustments.
If you one-trick pick nova in QM, you’re going to have composition problems.
Matching is just a sorting tool, and when it doesn’t have stuff to sort, it will start bending it rules just to try to complete a match. Nova and Abathur are known heroes that tend to get mirror matches if people are playing at odd hours, ‘rig’ the matches with select other teammates, wait too long in queue (rules loosen).
QM will try to hard-avoid mirrors, so if you’re getting a nova mirror "9 out of 10 games’ you might want to consider a more useful pick or at least not partying up with other assassins and expecting the game to bot healers and tanks for you.
Oh I’m fully aware I’m a one trick pony
I just play with my husband sometimes and Nova is just the one I find the most fun personally. My husband plays a much wider variety of heroes. He plays without me a lot, and the same kind of thing still happens to him all the time without me.
It does make sense though, I guess when I play with him it gets worse? I didn’t know that. We’ve seen some pretty crazy team comps over the years, guess it was my fault ![]()
Generalist heroes that aren’t super dependent on team composition, like the ones you mentioned (along with a few more like Nazeebo, Falstad, and Abathur), are heavily over-represented in Quick Match simply because they can function no matter what potato comp the matchmaker puts them into.
The matchmaker doesn’t like mirrors and tries to avoid making them. But you should still expect to see them pretty frequently on certain heroes.
Oh the hypocrisy!
“Urm, matchmaking is broken” maybe stop one tricking one of the most useless heroes then? Where else is it supposed to put you?
Don’t be so quick to judge. I’ve been surprised how impressed I am by one trick Novas. Good ones will make their games work in spite of the comps. Of course, if one is complaining like the OP, they are probably not one of those Novas. It’s probably the ones that like playing Nova because they can stealth and play super passive and end up getting one of the lowest damage. But feel like they’re still contributing because they occasionally kill steal after the team does most of the work.
Touche.
Still, the lack of awareness to both demand better mmr and one-trick an almost impossible to accommodate hero. It’d only be worst if OP was an Aba OTP
Believe it or not, because of the support rule matching, Abathur actually does significantly better than you might imagine in QM compositions. He only does worse against TLV, but there are far fewer players who play TLV than Abby, Zarya, and Medivh, in which Abby has pretty significant advantage. His horrifying bad mine talents also don’t completely blow in no healer games.
