Teach me Sylvanas

Okay, so firth of, I have no idea how banshee curse is applied as it does not say anything in her talents, only saying in talents how to increase 3 stacks of banshee curse but how do you apply it? with shadow dagger or just with normal AA?

and then, please teach me how to play her, I want to main her. I really enjoy playing her.

thanks

you apply the curse with AA “triple AA = curse” and there’s a talent at 7 for your haunting wave makes it apply the curse as soon as it hits someone which is safer play for sylvanas you just use E at the target and throw dagger asap to get stacks “it must hit the target” if it misses then you get no curse on the target.

This one actually applies three stacks, which is awesome in combo with the level 1 quest as you can apply the DoT, throw Haunting Wave (E) through a bunch of enemies and see it spread/generate quest stacks instantly from all targets.

Also there is a talent later on that applies one mark per Q hit.

Can´t really contribute much more as i do not play her that much.

Pretty sure there is no such talent, unless I missed something, and the fact that Q doesnt apply trait is kinda annoying since day 1 lol

i think you were thinking about the Q cooldown reduction? or you meant the double haunting wave at 13 since you can use it twice? there’s no talent that make your Q’s stack curse but you probably thought of something else

Remorseless at 16. Though i had it in mind a bit wrong: AAs on targets with three stacks fire an untalented Withering Fire, which applies a stack too, but not regular Q´s.

Festering Wounds at level 7 applies three stacks of the Curse to all targets hit. As it also deals damage a target with the DoT will instantly spread it … to targets who now also have three stacks.

Oh right, didnt even notice

ok you’re actually right. i mostly pick windrunner for double E which is great for engage and escape as well as it reset my Q’s and at 20 it’s even more fun Q’s for days but yeah i got you now.

Maybe i readyour post wrong in the first place and refered to the wrong talent; i play her almost only in brawls with the quest and might have a bit of a tunnel vision there.

nah that’s normal to happen i had to look at the talent again when you mentioned it as i only used it once or twice. since i prefer windrunner over it but that’s interesting talent as well you don’t play her much maybe but you’ve got a good eye plus i some times go full Q build specially for the 20 that reduce my Q cooldowns mixing with windrunner makes it so op

Unfurling Shadows + Festering Wave is a fairly popular build, makes her a late-game AoE monster. you might try it out to see how you like it

me, i don’t use it anymore. its damage is too intermittent imo; kinda reminds me of azmodan’s globe in that way. i prefer to get into the fight, choose a target, and unload on it until either it’s dead or i need to banshee wave out. sylvanas can put out a surprising amount of damage if she sticks to a target

for these reasons, if i go dagger build i like Lost Soul + Cold Embrace much better :0

(also i’d love to share my three usual builds but i… am suddenly drawing a blank on when and why i choose each build lmao. i might have to play a few games and write my thought process down)

Only use MC at point blank range. It’s a ridiculously long stun if you use it this way.

She’s definitely one of my favorite mains to play. This is the build I use. You don’t have to use it because there are other builds too, but I feel like this is the best one for me personally. Feel free to comment on it. I may gain something from this as well.

First off you can apply the Banshee’s Curse with auto attacks (1 stack per AA) or with your E later if you pick the talent. Shadow dagger spreads it, it doesn’t apply it.

Now, let’s go over your basic abilities

Withering Fire (Q) - This is useful to deal damage without targeting anything. It focuses on heroes so you don’t need to worry about minions or anything. Use it whenever you go in a fight. It has a short cooldown and doesn’t use a lot of mana. Use it as often as you can to maximize your damage output.

Shadow Dagger (W) - This is your main damage spreader and dealer if you get enough stacks, which I will explain later how to get a lot of, will do a lot of damage in teamfights and 1v1’s. It is where most of your damage comes from.

Haunting Wave (E) - This is your main escape tool. Don’t misuse it because then you have no escape tool until later. You can use it to deal damage too but try not to teleport in to a team fight with it. Follow team cues so you don’t get stuck in a bad spot. Escaping with this can be tricky and is hard if you don’t play mind games with your opponent. When you are retreating and someone is following you, throw your E to your desired location and run perpendicular to where you threw it. If you sent your E to the right, go up, down, or left. If the enemy follows Sylvanas, use the E to teleport out. If he follows the wave, keep running and wait for the cooldown to repeat this process. If you can’t run anywhere other than where your wave is going because it won’t be safe, just run the same direction as your wave and teleport when it’s reached its full length to give yourself a little bit of space. If you need to use it sooner, do so. You decide. Be aware that you can’t use E the second time to teleport if you get Rooted, Stunned, or Silenced by any means until after the CC goes away, so be careful and try to use it well. I can’t tell you exactly how to use it so use it at your discretion. Also, your wave can go through walls and terrain so try to use that to lose your enemies.

First off, that is how your trait works in general. It’s also your main pushing tool because it can shut down a whole fort or keep while you take it down. When you use your trait, place your W on a unit or structure and continually auto attack that unit/structure. The Curse will spread to all nearby enemy minions, mercs, and structures. It’s probably best to use your W on a tower and let your W do the work.

Build

Level 1:
Unfurling Shadows - This is one of the best ways to push and teamfight. You gain stacks when your W hits enemy heroes with 3 stacks of Banshee’s Curse, which you can get by auto attacking or through your E if you pick the talent. There is no stack limit to this quest so you can get your stacks in the 100’s and do massive damage. What you should try to do early game is auto attack an enemy hero until you see 3 stacks of Banshee’s Curse and then throw your W on that hero and you’ll gain 6 stacks. Repeat this and your W will get stronger and stronger. It is a really good late game talent.

Level 4:
Unstable Poison - This allows you to clear minion waves easier and faster. Use your W on a minion and continually auto attack that minion and your W will spread and it will allow you to clear it up fast. Its a pushing build and it has synergy with your level 1 talent when you push. As you get more stacks, the faster you will clear the waves.

Level 7:
Festering Wounds - This talent allows you to apply 3 stacks of Banshee’s Curse to any enemy hero hit, making it easier to get W stacks because you don’t have to only auto attack now. This is extremely useful in team fights because it applies to all enemy heroes hit. Try to use your E to cover the enemy team and then throw a dagger at one of them and then auto attack the hero you marked to spread it. That will spread the Curse to everyone and each hero you have marked with 3 stacks, will give you W stacks. You don’t have to stay and fight. Just throw your E and then W on someone who has 3 stacks. If you can spread the W good, if not, then don’t die trying.

Level 10:
Wailing Arrow - This is good if you have enemies who have powerful ults or vs mages. You can use it at the beginning of the fight to silence enemy heroes and deal your damage or to finish off kills. Try to use it to stop powerful ults like Kael’s bomb, Anduin’s protect and things like that. You can also use it to escape by using it on enemies chasing you so they can use their spells to chase, damage, or CC you. It has a second activation so use that to decide where to activate it. First time sends it, second times explodes it. Be sure to time it and use it right because if you miss, it’ll be very ineffective.

Mind Control - This is a good ult too but I haven’t used it in forever but basically its good for singling out one hero and focusing that hero. If you team has follow up damage, great, if not, then try to do it to someone with low health and then unleash all your abilities on that one hero you mind controlled. Other than that, you know about as much as me about this Ult.

Level 13:
2 talents are good here.
Cold Embrace - This is good if you need armor reduction. Its best if you can spread your W to all enemy heroes so they all have reduced armor. Its also good for 1v1 because you’ll deal more damage and force a retreat from your opponent. I pick this vs tanky enemy comps because it makes them more squishy than normal and you can force them back easier.

Windrunner - This talent is excellent for helping with your escapes and resetting your Q. When escaping, you can use your E a second time after using it a first time. The second time is free so don’t worry if you don’t have mana. Now you can teleport in and out of an area to secure kills but be careful you don’t get CC’d before you get out. Its risky, but if you can pull it off, you can kill secure kills and retreat like its nobody’s business. OR you can use it to reapply 3 stacks on your enemies. Either way works but its so much more fun to use it to pop in and out as long as you are careful. I would suggest practicing how to use it and once you get the hang of it, then use it in teamfights. Every time you use it, pop your Q because your Q will now reset twice (only if you teleport) so you can use it up to 3 times. Q, then E, teleport, Q, then E, teleport then Q again. **Remember that you can only use your E a second time if you use it within 5 seconds after initally casting * it so be careful to not get trapped while using it because then you’ll have to wait for the cooldown.

Either talent is useful in their own way so try to decide what to use based on how the game has gone so far and the enemy comp.

Level 16:
Life Drain - I try to pick this one as often as I can because all it does is give you more sustain against enemies with 3 stacks of Banshee’s Curse. Nothing else to explain here just make sure you auto attack enemies with 3 stacks and you’ll have your sustain.

Will of the Forsaken - ALWAYS. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. PICK. THIS. TALENT. AGAINST. THE. BUTCHER. I cannot stress that enough. Please don’t pick any other talent at level 16 if the enemy has hard CC. It grants movement speed and doesn’t allow you to be CC’d at all. Against butcher, wait for him to almost hit you with his charge and then activate it this will make him regret using it on you and you won’t be stunned by him. Then just run or finish off the Butcher that over extended, only if its safe. Its not a QWE talent so make sure you hit 1 or whatever key it is. If Butcher isn’t in the match and the enemy team doesn’t have much CC, pick the healing talent because you’ll last longer in 1v1’s and teamfights if you can hit players with 3 stacks.

Level 20:
Choose the R talent you picked.

Bolt of the Storm - Only pick this talent if you need extra escape mechanisms. Please don’t pick it if you can escape fine, only with certain situations. You’ll need to see what you think is best.

Overall play style
This build gives you a bit of pushing power and great teamfight potential. The first few minutes of the game I like to soak lanes and push if I can. Just be careful of ganks when you are solo laning and use your E to escape if you feel a gank coming.

After the first objective pops up, I usually quit solo laning unless my team needs me to split push. If they’re needing help even if an enemy hero is in the lane with you, please don’t just sit in the lane all game. Help out your team. Her rework pushed players to help their team more and not just be solo laners the whole game. Just push lanes if it benefits your team. Otherwise, be with your team.

Get stacks. Stacks are the key to this build. If you can’t get stacks, you won’t be as effective later on. If you don’t want to push, which you don’t have to, then be with your team and aa heroes, use your W to get stacks and just farm up your stacks.

Hope this helps. I have tons of fun playing Sylvanas. If you need any more help with anything, feel free to reply to this post your questions and I can help you out.

Alternatively you can throw your haunting wave at him. Wait for the wave to touch him then reactivate. You won’t be stunned because you will be unstoppable when your body makes contact. If you picked Windrunner you will have a second TP ready to go.

This is riskier though.

I’ve never tried that, but why would you want to be near a butcher? He just needs to brand and slow you, then use his ult to silence you. Also a smart butcher would be near his team. Yes, you might be able to pull it off but I feel like the success rate is so low its almost stupid to try that. If you use the Will of the Forsaken, you have a much higher chance of staying alive.

Much, much riskier lol. love the fearlessness lol

I only play QM but it seems to throw them off. I rarely see Butch’s throw out a raw Lamb or use hamstring (I think that’s the name) to land it instead. With windrunner it’s kinda like boundless stride.

I also use to really love evasive and this is a way I got to pick that. Now that your q doesn’t have stacks it doesn’t feel so good anymore.

But QM.

Also this is more fun to me. I like to mess with Xul’s this way too. Haunting can dodge their roots.

I’ll have to try that myself lol

There can be smart Butchers in quickmatch

Go into one lane and push it nonstop all game. Never leave for any reason. If you die that just means your teammates are noobs and you should yell at them in chat while continuing to push your lane.
