Teach me: Maiev

Not so much in when to pick her (I think when played well she fits almost every comp), but which talents. I feel she has no clear build path.

Level 1 is all over the place and I usually go for the cd redution because it’s the least conditional.
Level 4: I hit FoK too inconsistently and Blade Dance is pretty eh, so I usually go explosion damage.
Level 7: Bonds of Corruption or Ruthless Spirit.
Level 10: I always seem to cast Warden’s cage too late and the enemy waltzes out of it, so I usually go disc.
Level 13: All are so similar… Does it really matter?
Level 16: Cruel shain already looks super complicated, Armored Assault it is.
Level 20: I usually hope the game ends before we get that far, because here I am totally lost. It’s enough that I never seem to remember what they actually do. Also, I never seem to reset them, making my 20 tier a single-use ability.

If you want a simple build:

1: Naisha’s memento is easy to use and does its job, especially against clumped enemies such as triple melee or tight team fight spots.

4: Pin down or blade dance, if you don’t think you can get pin down value blade dance is free extra damage.

7: Elune’s wrath is very good.

10: Wardens cage for combos/self synergy, especially if you are on a team fight heavy map, containment disk is good for removing key targets from fights for a bit, kinda like a 1 man void prison, it also does anything void prison does but with a target limit.

13: bladed armor, synergizes extremely well with armored assault at 16.

16: armored assault, with bladed armor you basically have a 100% up time 20% damage buff

20: shadow orb huntress, by far the best level 20 for any build, 40% move speed is instant better-then-mount speed and the attack speed boost synergizes with Naisha’s memento.

If you want the true Maeiv experience (a lot harder)

1: Bonds of Justice really strong synergy with cruel chain at 16, make sure to stack up at least 10 stacks asap, remember you can attack minions to secondary hit nearby heroes for stacks.

4: blade dance: procs cruel chain’s damage stacks, better then it is in the other build. against clumped or several melee teams i sometimes take pin down still.

7: Elune’s wrath, already a great talent but it also procs Elune’s wrath

10: same as before, either goes, warden is more often then not a good choice.

13: bladed armor is still very good even without armored assault.

16: cruel chain. Gives you high 1v1 potential, insane team fight winning burst potential. Insane talent that literally defines Maeiv’s play style. IF you can pull it off, this build takes some getting used to.

20: shadow orb huntress is still insane here, move speed is op and Naisha’s memento is not required for the aa speed part of it as Maeiv already deals very high aa damage

E build vs teams with a lot of ranged damage dealers. Basically when you know the enemy team is almost never going to be clumped up for reliable FoK resets.

With the latest buffs, the E build is actually the highest winrate build in Masters SL. But I checked 2 weeks ago, might have changed.

Level 16 Armored Assault synergizes well Blade Dance and Shadow Armor. It’s what allows Maiev to deal huge amounts of damage late game. Also synergizes well with her E build/AA build.

But as of right now, Vengeful Knives (the true 100% E build talent) is the highest winrate talent in masters SL, due to repetitive buffs Sudden Vengeance and Vengeful Knives.

If you go Pursuit of Vengeance (E build), you’ll want to grab containment disc. Dive in with your team, tether your target, throw containment disc on the enemy peel usually the tank or maybe a Kaelthas who can disrupt your team’s wombo dive. Kill the target, the jump the 2nd enemy as they come out of containment disc.

At level 20 you’ll have 2 options, Huntress and Vengeance.

If you wanna go 100% E build, you go Vengeance. Combined with the lowered cooldown from Pursuit, if you can get a good tether off, you can pull off an absolutely retarded combo on the enemy team with 4 blinks with Sudden Vengeance proccing on the entire enemy team 4 times.

If you like to AA between your blinks, go Huntress. It’s also the easier option. If you’re not reliably hitting multiple heroes with your E, Vengeance won’t be much use to you.

Against teams with 2 warriors or 1 warrior and a bruiser, better to go Elune’s Wrath/Blade Dance build with Shadow Armor and Armored Assault late game. Especially if there’s a healer that kind of likes to stay near the front line like Uther or Lucio, even better.

Against Samuro you go Pin Down and then complete it 5 mins into the match. Then you become the new Li Ming as you spam FoK on enemies from a safe distance and KEK as they die to your new role as a ranged assassin.

Hope this helped.

Thanks guys, will give those a try.

xDDD same feeling when I started with her hahaha it’s exactly this :joy:

tbh maiev is super adaptative, and as u said she could fit in pretty much any comp. You can build on-the-go during the game, not with a specific pre-established build before you even saw the full comps. The talents are kinda self explanatory regarding what you’re gonna need to adapt better to the situations

some lights :
at 13, you take the armor on FoK if you’re not gonna especially dive consistently, like if you went for the AoE build with Pin Down at 4 & Elune’s Wrath at 7 most of the times
Armor on Blink is if you build more versatile (like with pursuit of vengeance at 1) and you’re gonna dive often, especially on backliners like hanzo or ming
otherwise chain gang is when you’re more oriented to setup situations for the team work, it will provide you the best survivability since you’re aim will be mostly to pull heroes and not especially dive to a single target or dance around spaming FoK. Kinda goes with bonds of corruption at 7 usually

for the cruel chain build, which is more burst dmg oriented, just watch the videos from Spaßvogel

blade dance provides additional dmg if you’re in melee range, obviously synergizes with bonds of corruption, cruel chain, armored assault and shadow orb: huntress

for the cage, if you want to guarantee trapping enemies, you need to activate your W, E in, press R, then tether them, you then walk in the way to make them go inside the avatars circle

if you’re looking for the most versatile build I’d recommend :
https://www.heroesfire.com/hots/talent-calculator/maiev#l2LJ
you can swap vengeful knives with armored assault if you prefere
you can do pretty much everything, just it’s not especially enhanced (like the dmg on Q or W)

sudden vengeance is nice to chase a fleeing tank xD really, like you see this Muradin always jumping away low hp. It’s also good on its own vs any hero

I got more then 140 levels on her.

Aim before you Q. Dont spam it.
Learn all of her pull combos just practice it in AI.

Disk is great for peeling. Use it when the team is in the middle of combat. Not just the start because their team will simply not engage for 4s

D like in real life you need to have a bit practice on. Dont use it for AA’s but for cc or abilities

Stukov is your best friend

Qm is your worst enemy

protip: dont bother lmao

no they reverted that nerf dw
edit: stupid auto-mod

That’s a lot of good stuff, thanks.

I still have it on quick cast. Back to on release I guess…

Why? Aoe silence?

If I play Maiev against annoyances I usually go tether build (with cruel chain). Otherwise it’s AoE knives team fight build.

When you pull they are at a centralised position. A silence prevents them using abilities
