Surrender function

Like the game wasnt toxic enough with tilting people and throwers saying GG after first death.

No way blizz makes surrender.

OK, genius. I’m ready to hear your suggestions on how to do that.
Also, suggest how to make people not to play PVP modes with crappy PC and internet that crash every other game.

The solution is BOTH, actually.
Unfortunately, Blizzard are gradually stomping hots into the ground (on purpose BTW) and are not interested in making it better.
Maybe the team that works on it - are interested to improve. But Blizzard as a company just wants it to slowly die so they can completely stop supporting it.
Just look at the progression of update frequency, and you see the picture.
2018 - 15 heroes, new map, several events. E-sports shut down at Blizzcon
2019 - 4 heroes, no maps, no events, 1 nexus anomaly
2020 - so far 1 hero, promised 2 heroes. No maps, 1 anomaly
2021 - I bet no more than 2 heroes again, possibly 1
2021-2022 Blizzcon - Official announcement that “All good things come to an end” and they stop hots support to focus on new exciting games. Servers will stay live, but no new updates.

  1. People that bother to suggest surrender options never look into anything else; that’s why they’re only ‘sure’ someone else suggested it, but never bother to check.
  2. Since they don’t bother to check for other related suggestions, they don’t refine their request, offset previously posted problems with it, or apply any of those to their gameplay.
  3. The stagnant issue of ‘surrender’ is just a loop to not play the game. The simplest way to ‘not play the game’ is to literally not play the game.
  4. Self-deception may try to offset #3, but functionally, all the loops and scenarios described for why/when someone should ‘surrender’ pretty much breaks down into showing that that isn’t the case, but too bad people don’t bother to look into other, better, means of refining this request.

They don’t because they’re too busy wanting to give up to bother.

  1. ‘Surrender’ options are undercast on the conditions to realize them, and people generally don’t care because, as much as they want to lie about the considerations of others, it’s just about sating their own gratification for quitting. One of the biggest issues with that is players need a capacity to delay gratification to thrive in games of this sort of genre that bely longer time stalls than they’ll bother to consider.
  1. “Surrender” options don’t fix the reported problem, invite more exploits and abuse, and reward the wrong sort of mentalities that don’t bother to think or consider otherwise. Those that suggest this might bother to realize that if they’d ever bother to actually look into what other people have suggested this, how they were declined, and actually improve and adapt according – ya know, the stuff that’s supposed to be the core aspect of games.
  1. 'But what about games with a bot?" Soon as ‘surrender’ is an option, it gives people the out to make a ‘bot’ in the game, and hope the rest just surrender so the typical lapse of gamespan offsets their having left, and they get off scot by being able to leave games, and essentially demand people surrender afterward. This pushes a spiral that gives leavers even more influence on the game rather than curtailing it.
  2. The usual insurmountable power tropes that exist in longer-ran game durations don’t hold the same metrics here; it takes significantly less effort to ‘turn’ around some conditions of being behind, but players are too busy giving up as is to get the experience to realize the opportunity accordingly, so they’re just looking for an out to not play the game, and call it anything else.

It’s generally very telling that the time-and-again topics for this spout as little effort into realizing the suggestion as possible, don’t provide anything new, interesting, convincing and otherwise just continue to repeat the same dribble over and over again. It’s like thinking someone is 'stuck in an old NES hard game by jumping into the same pit.

You want the change? Do more than just jumping into the pit.

When one of my favorite posters is suggesting surrender as an anomaly, I’m spooked too!

it used to be that you had to find your own games, though. Now its all automated, and how dare you ruin my fun?

Make leaving punishement so hard they aren’t ruining games.
Like the current rmlraver queue but harsher.
Also make it easier to ban people who left games.

funny how people who want a surrender option almost always fall back to “game is deeead”. i can assure you, the lack of a surrender option is not what is holding HotS back.

if you have a leaver just surrender is too easy, but instead :
• ping on his character
• take him to the enemy
• get him killed as many times as possible
• get him reported by enemy team
• also report him for feed on purpose and rage quit

Basically it comes down to while there would be obviously some good to a surrender function (lvl 15 v lvl 20 with a bot on your team) it would be horrendously outweighed by all the people who would try to misuse it. Maybe it could work if the game first had to dub your situation irrecoverable before it gave you the option to surrender, but even then it becomes handholdy and based on the whims of an AI, and we all know the “quality” of HotS AI.

I never said it is.
But it is still a much needed and positive feature.

Example.
Come to their home and shoot them in the hand?

Because banning them in a free game doesn’t really work. Blizzard already does it, and it doesn’t stop people. What more would you have them do?

most people don’t want to have to regrind the gold to buy a whole bunch of heroes when they get banned. plus they would lose any cool skins they got in lootboxes. banning is still a deterrent.

Only the weak need a surrender in a game that hardly ever goes beyond 20 minutes. Even less if you have a bot on your team.

Bot is feeding machine for enemy team or doesn’t help at all.

Most games only last about 18-22 min in averange so why do you even need a surrender button. Maybe stop giving up so fast and do something about it. Some times i just think those people who makes these threads are used to have it in Lol/Dota and then think its a great idea to have it in Hots too.

But guess what. Hots are neither of those games and games does not last long enought for the devs to even consider adding one. People think its the end of the world to have a bot so they want to surrender right away without trying first.

Remember you only need one good teamfight late game to end the game no matter how many kills the enemy team got from you. Then you win. The object is to kill enemy core. Not farm kills or farm high hero dmg or high healing. That’s why some troll comps always outwins you.

the worst thing is if you ping, it stays behind you

but if you don’t ping it goes back to base, so you are stuck between 2 horrible choices…
