I can’t express enough my saddness for the loss of this category, this game had 3 of the most creative supporting characters that ever existed Medivh on top then Abathur then Tassadar in my opinion.
I was happy when the design team listened to the community and changed character roles to be more clearly defined because I thought back then we will have serious attention to the support role separated from the healer despite the loss of specialists I liked the change but then for some noob reasons the team decided to stop adding any more supports while adding two more heroes that barely fit the role (Lost vikings & Zarya) and then change one of the best to a ranged assassin the role that is already saturated in the game !!
Supports are not that hard to balance , their roles aren’t too vague , they provide versatility at the cost of proficiency.
I want the design team to rethink the decision and think deeply about the role and what they want it to be , rework Zarya and Lost vikings accordingly after you reach a conclusion or just turn them into another categories and stick to Abathur , Medivh & Tassadar form as baseline then work from there and release new supports.
I know I hope for a miracle to get Support Tassadar back but what is doable right now is reassessing the role then release new supports after the conclusion

As ex-support Tassadar main and currently TLV main I agree with you. I enjoy playing support role and I hope devs wake up their minds and add more support heroes and help community to learn when/how to pick supports and make double support comps more common on the lower ranks than master/diamond, where only Abathur is mostly acceptable, when other supports mostly considered as a troll pick.

I understand your frustration about Tassadar, but I think he’s actually better now, because in my experience the old one was just a memelord and it feeled like he had almost no impact at all, maybe only in very high leagues. And while this arguement sounds stupid, I agree, because niche heroes are good as they are, because if they are unique and niche is not bad at all… I still think that Tass is more fitting like he is now, his kit feels better now, even though he is overtuned with his “I am firing my lazors”.

Well, he wasn’t that amazing in lower leagues but his value of enabling divers and be in general useful for those very gifted with him was a major asset and actually even a balance concern. Tracer’s buffs in particular had to be postponed due to the Plasma Shields enabling her too much if she’s just a bit stronger.
On the other hand Tassadar’s popularity since his transfer to mage has soared. And it’s generally positive to the hero even if they more or less alienated old Tass players.
Actually, a lot of their recent reworks do this. See the D.va and Gazlowe ones. As a semi-main with D.va I know that she plays almost nothing like her old version even though her old kit is mostly there. Although unlike Tass she is still a Bruiser so that’s something. In case of Tassadar you almost require a whole different skillset now.
I understand the anger of his old mains very much.

I understand that too, but it’s not a question about understanding feelings, but about adapting and asking, if the new one is more fitting or not.
He’s only popular because he’s strong. He’s in the top 3 mages trinity

That’s why we need more strong heroes then the popularity splits, because there are more variations.
Zarya kit is fine, she just needs a few small buffs to some talents.
Aba and Med can hold their own while dishing out nice support and damage. But Zarya relies on other team mates, she’s like butcher.
Problem with Zarya is that she requires very specific comp.
And still I don’t remember when I ran into a situation where I was like “damn, if we had Zarya”
Like, in which situation you want her?
She is potentially good on 2 lane maps, because she is horrible solo lane.
She can be good with divers like Genji or Tracer, but why would you go Zarya when you can go Abat, which supports the diver more than one Zarya’s shield?
When you need more teamfight presence, her ult can be game changing. It depends on the comp.
Zarya is good with immobile heroes, like Arthas or Garrosh, if she takes movespeed at 4.
Which of those two ultimates?
Why Zarya over Medivh?
His portal is better than Zarya’s movement speed bonus, both for engage and disengage.
And his shield is better than her.
Zarya is good in hypercarry comps. Her level 20 silence ult means gg in a teamfight if 2 or more people are trapped
Aba is better for that.
Aba + Tracer (or Illidan or whoever) is 10x better than Zarya + Tracer (or Illidan or whoever)
I think that Graviton Surge has same issue as Gaz’s bomb.
It flies for about 0.5 sec and then it has another 1 sec activation time.
It is just too slow.
Yes it can win you a fight.
But so can Medivh’s Ley Line.
