Hy guys,
I can’t decide wich skill deals basic dmg and skill dmg. So i ask them here one by one.
Artanis: W skill Twin blade
Lich king: D treat Frostmurne hunger.
Cassia: E Fend ?
Gazlowe: Turrets.
Nova: lvl 7 talent anti armor shell.
Sonya: E Whirlwind?
Tychus: d treat?
Xul: W cursed strike?
Look at the colours of the damage numbers to give you a hint. You can do this in try mode on the dummies.
Purple numbers are spell damage
Orange numbers are physical damage.
Art basic att
Arthas bonus spell dmg
Cassia spell
Gaz spell
Nova basic attack
Sonya spell
Tychus no idea
Xul aa
Tychus deals both basic attack damage and spell damage with Minigun (percentage damage is spell damage + his current AA damage).
Going to throw all colors just for goodness sake:
Orange - Auto Attack
Orange with White (Previously Red) - Critical Auto Attack
Purple - Ability/Percentage Damage (Precentage is unreducable)
Purple with White - Critical Ability Damage
Green - Heal
Green with White - Critical Heal
White:
- Used to show the number of shields applied.
- Also used for to show stats after a certain cast like Heal negated with Biotic Grenade for Ana, or damage nullified with protected from Medivh.
True but since Minigun only affects his AA modifier, a blind will completely negate his Minigun damage if he activates it. Regular spell damage cannot be blinded.
Turrets use their basic attacks to deal magic damage.
Illidan can avoid these attacks.

finally someone. Thanks.
W skill deals physical(Basic) damage.
Arthas’s D deals Ability(Skill) damage.
Cassia’s E deals Ability damage.
Gazlowe’s Turrets deal Summon damage, a weird cross between ability and skill damage. Most armors don’t affect them, only PvE type armor like Merc Lord skills. I could be mistaken here, of course.
Nova’s AAS deals Physical damage.
Sonya’s E deals Ability damage.
Tychus’s D deals Health damage - Any ability that deals +%health damage ignores armor. I believe it is also unaffected by spellpower boosts, only raw +%damage boosts.
Xul’s W deals Physical damage.
Majority of the heroes in this game have spell dmg type abilities, very few have physical ones.
Basic attacks deal Physical damage unless specified otherwise, and abilities deal Spell damage unless specified otherwise.
Effects that increase the number of attacks made do not change the type of damage done unless specified otherwise:
Artanis’ Twin Blades - no change, remains Physical damage
Li Ming’s Mirrorball - no change, remains Spell damage
Effects that increase basic attack damage increase Physical damage unless specified otherwise, and effects that increase ability damage increase Spell damage unless specified otherwise.
Artanis’ Follow Through - no change, remains Physical damage
Kael’thas’ Convection - no change, remains Spell damage
Effects that add an additional instance of damage but do not increase the number of attacks made deal Spell damage unless specified otherwise.
Varian’s Heroic Strike - extra instance of Spell damage on a basic attack
Generic Titan/Giant Killer - extra instance of Spell damage
Maiev’s Blade Dance - specified otherwise, extra instance of Physical damage on an ability
