Someone explain +/- personal rank adjustment to me

I am your typical low gold/high silver noob. I’ve been floating between silver 2 and gold 4 for a few seasons now. I decided to take a couple months off because I felt like playing something else.

I started doing ranks again with about a 30% winrate over the last couple of days and getting -15 to -17 pra every single game.

Why is this happening? Do the Blizzard gods want me to derank into bronze? This is some next level BS.

Either there is rank decay for all ranks now or forced losses are absolutely a thing.

Did I miss something here with this new storm league ranking system?

i honestly have no idea about that or how it works. been having that for a while despite being in a winning streak in SL so i have no clue why i get that either.

As far as I understand it, the PRA is simply an adjustment to make your rank match your MMR and the rank the game believes you should be based on that. If you’re a much higher rank than the game thinks you should be, say you won all 10 placement games and were put abnormally high due to luck or what have you, your PRA would be a large negative to fit you into the rank that best matches your skill level. This, in conjunction with the Favored adjustment can alter your end game earnings quite significantly for better or worse. So to some degree, a high negative should be seen as a good thing as it means you’re improving, or at least winning. Even on a losing streak, that PRA could be quite a high negative because the game believes you should be many ranks lower than you are.

I personally fit into the high Plat, low Diamond ranks. However, I play with lower ranking friends and generally find myself in lower ranks than I should be in (thus my PRA is usually a positive amount) since I bring the MMR of the match into a higher bracket than my teammates belong in.

Funny thing for me is that it’s sometimes positive, sometimes negative :smiley:
One season I ended Plat 5, next season I did my placement matches with random bronze-silver players, and started as Silver 2. After that I was getting negative PRA for TL. But next season I was playing with friends, and my PRA went positive again (although it started negative) :stuck_out_tongue: and I finished the season in gold 1.
Now I’m in Plat 2, after the merging of the modes, and I am getting like +20 PRA, with 65,1% SL win rate :smiley:
