I always report the report system 1 star as it never works. Sometimes i’m surprised to see people silenced as that requires the report system to actually work. i’m like wow they must of been truely awful to get mass reported enough for blizz to pay attention.
The only things that works is abusive chat reports. But I have a feeling that they work automatically rather than anyone actually reviews them. Simply if you accumulate enough reports you get chat silence
Every other category is just for show. They don’t work and never get reviewed.
I mostly never see any silenced players anymore. Maybe once a week or once a month. But what surprise me the most is many of them are all low lvl accounts i have seen so far. Account lvl 30 with silenced status. He must have trolled really hard to get silenced so fast.
I’ve seen the exactly same thing. Two years ago you would see many silenced players in QM, now it’s rare. I think the reason could be as the report system is automated and based on volume of reports over time played. As many people are playing less, so they are unlikely to get silenced anymore no matter what they say.
Most of the low level accounts are try-hard frustrated smurfs. So it makes sense they are toxic and get silenced as they are probably trying to max their account while they still have their free stim packs. Just a theory.
every other category is not just for show. people do get suspended for afk/intentionally dying/non-participation. please stop spreading this misinformation, as it is a self-fulfilling prophecy, with people never bothering to report because they think it doesn’t matter.
Back then when game was at its peak, Blizzard was banning people en mass for abusive chat, non-participation, refusal to follow your teamates orders or having an audacity to expect your teamates to play with you. After Blizzard had pulled the cord on this game, they had raised ceiling for silencing and bans considerably and thus, it is a lot more difficult to get silenced/banned than before. Before you couldn’t help, but fear for year long bans.
I played this game since beta, and I never even once heard of people getting banned. The only thing I ever ever saw was silenced people.
HOTS would not have an AFK player in 30% of games (and that’s only among YOUR team) if they banned anyone for it. Those people are just quickly end up in their own bracket where they don’t annoy anyone else. In HOTS, you have to really work hard to get flagged for that, and it only works for a few games and you’re back with normal people. In LOL continuous AFK/Disconnects result in either being put into those loser-brackets more permanently, or an outright ban.
How often do you see threads on these forums like “I’ve been banned for griefing / chat / diconnert cry-cry”? Not often. Almost never, really.
Why?
Because it doesn’t seem to be happening at all.
Somehow, in LoL the system works with AFK/Ragequit/Disconnect being a very rare occurrence. But in HOTS it’s basically every other game that at least one person leaves.
The only explanation for that - is that nothing happens to these people.
So I honestly don’t know about “spreading misinformation”. This notion of never doing anything about griefers and leavers has been noted by everyone since release.
There were plenty of threads about it and even pros were silenced. Back then silence would result in eventual weekly bans which would escalate into years. It was only for a short time, half an year to over an year, because Blizzard had changed its direction 180 degrees with it pulling the pull. Then it had raised its systems automatic requirements significantly. Probably to the way it was before.
Though, there isn’t such need afterwards as with “abandoned game” it tends to attract people who genuinely like the game. Thus you see a lot less trolls, ragers, hateful people. Quality of the matches had risen since game was abandoned. The worst period was during its height and afterwards. I can see this is being reflected even in forums, there isn’t anymore any of those “special cases”. People who feel compulsion to disagree with everything you say and push some out of touch nonsense which poisons forum environment. I also see a lot less trolls or very low quality posters in forums too. This game simply became a niche thing and only attracts games who like the game. Shoking.
Those reports do work, I once got an email that someone was “actioned”, maybe a couple months after I made that report (it was a Leoric who just stayed at enemy base all game, the only nonparticipation report I’ve made).
But they require manual oversight by a GM and probably a stupifying amount of reports.
I don’t blame people who use Abusive Chat for every offense, it’s automated and much faster. Works as long as they’ve typed something during the match (otherwise it gets discarded).
Do I believe they actually do that dilligently?
No.
In my opinion, the report options as well as threads like that exist to give you false sense that blizzard care, while in fact they do very little if anything at all.
I’m forced to agree with you, yes people get chat banned pretty easily, punished for deliberate AFK or Dying on Purpose, hardly at all. I’ve received those emails too, but it’s a tiny percentage of people punished for griefing games compared to chat offenses.
