A lot has been discussed about the current state of the game and how it’s been unable to garner the same popularity as other titans of the genre. Yet there are still some things that Blizzard can try to improve the experience for the players and introduce full-fledged co-op campaigns with decent rewards. It has already been tried in Brawl mode and the feedback I’ve seen was really positive.
Imagine that, instead of a single brawl mission you have a set of scenarios following a certain story within the Nexus. I think it would be a great addition tot he game in attract the players who aren’t that interested in PvP. HOTS will never be another LOL so why not explore less multiplayer oriented areas?
Co-op mode in Starcraft 2 basically saved the game for me. I thought i’ll just beat the Campaign and shelve SC 2 for good. Commander mode, however turned it into my “most played” Blizzard game at this point. I believe there are opportunities for HOTS in this particular area. What do you guys think?
Starcraft 2 team manages both. Besides HOTS community is so small at this point that it might be too late for a rush to find a perfect balance? Who would care about it? A bunch of hardcore fanboys still playing half-empty servers? If PVE brings in more players it will mean more money and money-flow is probably the only thing that keeps this game from being axed.
The player base that plays a moba for what it is, and not pve. If you only want people in ai, then yes, they should put in more time toward player vs ai. The moment they do it’s a pretty good sign that those that play the game for what it is should go. Right now, whoever this new head developer is needs to find something, anything to rope in players and show that they actually care about the game aside from putting in memes.
Not every video game is centered around what you think is fun.
Even as vs AI player. i would not be able to constantly play such types of missions. Simply because these missions dont suit a moba. For a brawl it works because its something diffirent. But a moba just doesnt suit it because the talent system is very restricted.
Coop in starcraft is diffirent because of the way RTS games work. An RTS is far more suitable for storydriven pve games as you can easy balance units of a commander to deal higher or lower damage. Things you should not do in a moba as it creates a balance hell. Its the same reason why MvM in team fortress is a problematic mode regarding balance.
I actualy ment level design wise. All heroes and weapons were PvP based, and although there were tricks that gave the AI some new weapon styles, there were fundamental issues because some classes with certain weapons were blatantly OP (and i dont mean the medic shield on that, although thats a major offender of balance issues aswel), i mostly mean the phlog pyro.
Sure, mvm was fun to play when making missions (As you never know wether it would be balanced or broken), but there was a point where you could no longer give a player a challenge. Which is probably the reason why the later maps never recieved an expert mission.
(edit, and to note, i barely did mann up as custom map making was much more fun and chalenging, and unlike mann up actualy allowed you to go offmeta - which in some cases is even superior to do)
I think anything they came up with would be outmatched by what the WC3:Reforged community will develop. People will be able to make their own HotS with that, and their own Escape from Braxis adventures, it wouldn’t make sense for HotS to make that a selling point only to be outdone by another game so soon.
Maybe a stand-alone single player game that plays like Kingdom Hearts - where you would play a Nexus born character at the time when the Nexus first became aware of the other universes and sends you to each of them to investigate and recruit. At the same time the story could give the Nexus and its inhabitants a better introduction. I’ll admit I’m not an expert in StarCraft lore, but maybe they could spin it in a way that the Nexus traveler (aka the player) did something that ultimately caused the near extinction of the Xel’Naga and caused other events in the other universes.
I would like to give a try to this game mode. I immagine it like the brawl was one week ago, just without the yolo teammates. I think it would be pretty cool.
I would love a campaing in the nexus.
It was the first thing that came to my mind when i played Dead man stand and now scape from Braxis. Those braws shown the potential of a full campaing, with story, bosses and unique mechanics and the perfect oportunity to develop characters like Orphea, the sons of the Lady of thorns and the realm lords.
Make it co-op, use both unique maps and standart maches to progress the story (we are going to attack raven court, you will play a standart towers of doon) etc.
They did campaings for heartstone, they can do it for hots
I would play it (and replay it) in a heartbeat
