Simple Tips for Your Favorite Heroes

Share some of your favorite tips/talents/tricks with your favorite heroes, as everyone can always learn something new and useful! Some of these may be obvious, but I have seen enough people in matches fail to understand some of the nuances of the hero they are playing.

Anub’arak - When you press E to Burrow Charge, you can press it a second time to control where you surface, if you are trying to get that perfect 5 man stun.

Lucio - Wall Ride passively allows you to pass through enemy heroes, so make sure you can hit terrain if you think they are going to body block you in a bad place.

Artanis - Just because you can godswap someone, doesn’t mean you should.

Blaze - If you are going to be doing a lot of initiations in fights, take Thermal Protection at 16. It is amazing.

As a Li-Ming main I’d like to include that if you die as her, your team is then fighting a 4v5 till you rez. This is super duper not ideal, so avoid dying. Dying multiple times actively helps the other team tremendously. Avoid dying at all costs.

On an unrelated note, an unseen orb/missles strikes hardest. Many a kill I’ve gotten was because I casted a spell through terrain features (bushes, mountains, hills, houses etc) onto an enemy that thought they had the best position in the current fight only to get asploded to deth in the face all over the battlefield. Play those angles.

Lt Morales limited heal range and energy. Some new people play the game doesn’t understand the limited range of heal of Lt Morales also the energy conservation of this hero.

Lucio I rarely seen some new player use speed boast. Sure healing works well but totally wish when chasing a toon pls use speed boast it’s quite helpful catching up the fleeing toon.

Blaze for new player, you can heal by burning the oil spill.

Simple tips… For Chromie?

Hmm…

Uuuh… shoot from max range. Don’t fire a dragon breath and your sand blast wont be revealed.

Standing on top of your time trap works well against zeratuls and valeeras.

Deep breathing talent is bad. Go for Mounting Sands. (Nearly all other Chromies I see take Deep Breathing)

I can share a simple Ragnaros tip.
To get a full Value (Damage output) of your Q. Empower Sulfuras.
Hit one single auto attack, and then instantly activate the Q (Empower Sulfuras) Ability for a quick burst of damage. It resets your auto attack for another basic attack on the enemy.

Good practice for those trying to learn burst, because it applies to other burst heroes.

Genji:

  • Always AA a lot and pressure the frontline.
  • Always try to get the reset on your E.
  • Don’t just go in if you’re not getting a reset and don’t have other escapes.
  • Deflect is a channeled ability. It can be canceled by stuns/silences, and you can cancel it early if you use your abilities.
  • When you start to AA and the first shuriken goes off, you can press D or E and the other 2 will still go off.

KELTHUZAD

-Death and decay is your all purpose spell. Use it liberally and try to reserve frost nova for heroes-only. This will ensure your mana remains high during the match.

-Glacial spike is a great zoning ability. Often times if I’m trying to peel for an ally or give someone 3 more seconds to cap an objective all I have to do is throw the spike and the enemy heroes will all retreat.

-When you chain -> spike a hero, as long as the enemy hero is within range of your spike when the chain is cast, it will connect with the spike even if the enemy uses a mobility ability afterwards to get farther away (like Muradin’s jump or Genji dash).

-Always be on the lookout for an enemy Samuro, Rexxar, Azmodan, Dva, Zarya, Blaze, or Chen. These are the heroes that will help you easily finish your master of the cold dark quest. Even in the solo lane 1v1 it will be much faster for you to finish your quest vs one of them than against multiple fast, smaller hitbox heroes in the mid lane.

-You need to know every mobility spell the enemy heroes have and pay attention to their cooldowns. When they use their mobility is when you can strike (ie. after Orphea misses her shadow waltz, Muradin uses his dwarf toss, etc.).

-Depending on how much frontline protection and support you have, your order of preference for your combo kill in a teamfight is:

  1. Chain 2 heroes together - usually first to the enemy tank or a slow, large target and second to a backline hero.
  2. Chain 1 hero, spike, chain to spike - again usually on a tank or a slow hero without mobility.
  3. Spike, chain to spike, chain to hero - for situations where you cannot get in range (enemy Hammer, Chromie, Liming, etc.) or against multiple dive heroes.

basic tip for all my favorites:

don’t use an ability just because its off cooldown. Some abilities need to be:
a) aimed
b) comboed with another ability
c) retained. The threat of the ability can be scarier than whiffing cuz someone didn’t consider a) and b).

Brightwing - W - Polymorph - don’t use dry CC ever, meaning save this for peel and securing a kill.

Blaze - W - Oil spill for zoning, also slowing both retreating and engaging enemies(peel for ally). Unless you talent into it, setting it on fire removes it’s slow.
- E for both initiation and escape, body blocks will get you in trouble.

Anub’arak - Cocoon - Use on engaging enemy tank or a character that is predictably about to use a powerful Ult/ability. Do not use on a squishy in range of burst.

Realizing that’s all I got… wishing I could ever not tank/support and still reliably win.

Cassia - It’s OK to not use Fend all that much, and War Traveler can be a life saver.

Holo decoy is extremely versitile. It can block skill shots (I love dropping a decoy right in front of chromie as she is casting her Q ). Drop a decoy in the bushes to test for Abby mines or check for ambushes, when running away drop a decoy in front of you so it will run toward the enemies chasing you while you run away (this works more times than you think it will). Lethal decoy is good versus mobility. Minions and mercs will focus the decoy after you attack them once. If you see a hook or arcane disk, or sand blast, etc barreling toward you do a decoy self cast (alt e) and run away. Drop a decoy in the bushes near a fleeing ally to peel (or a short distance in front of the ally so the decoy will charge the enemies - the decoy can be used as a smart mine).

If you’re in deep Doo Doo drop the decoy THEN pop ghost protocol - you’ll be stealthed and they will be looking at two decoys. Use ghost protocol AFTER Butch’s charge stuns you (self-cast your decoy just before Butch’s charge hits you, there is a chance that he will brand the decoy). Don’t be afraid to miss a snipe.

If you go triple tap, get into a safe position before you use it and destroy ALL walls. Triple tap against Tracer - wait for rewind, against Genji - wait for deflect (you can bait rewind and deflect with your decoy). When being chased by someone remember pinning shot slows them.

You can win an empty lane by AAing a minion then dropping your decoy. Nova CAN clear waves, just don’t prioritize wave clear.

Illidan:

Only fight if you know you can win… better to not fight and sit next to your towers soaking or rotating then taking a losing engage.

If you can’t win, “soak and poke” - Dive in and slide out, do a little damage to your opponent then hit lane minions to regain life. Eventually they may be used to your continual retreats and get low enough where you can stay in and finish them.

Grab mercs before objectives for pressure and -> hunt into a low target during objective fight. I really want to like Meta, but Hunt’s global presence and stun is just so good…

Meta is just an escape/pyroblast juke until 20.

Been a while since I played because of school, but I’ll give a few tips about Valla for newbies:

Valla

  • For newbies, always practice stutter-step/attk move.
  • She is a versatile Hero with good waveclear and damage; can fit into most comps.
  • Be very mindful of your positioning and health because one wrong move, overextending, and extreme CC will get you killed due to her fairly low health.
  • Despite having low health, she deals decent damage and with her trait Hatred, increases her damage by 8% and movement speed by 1% for a total of 6 secs. // wow! //
  • Learn to keep your Hatred stacks up by hitting minions, walls, mercs, Monsters, Summons, Buildings and Heroes.
  • Don’t always use all your abilities when off-cd as it can deplete your mana very easily.
  • Same thing, don’t use both charges of Rain of Vengeance all the time when off-cd.
  • Save Vault (E) for escapes or repositioning. Don’t always use it to engage in combat or chase down someone.
  • Deal damage with caution. Hit whatever is within your range; don’t try to overextend because you want that low HP Morales in the backline dead.
  • Remember, Patience and Discipline is crucial in playing Valla. DO NOT LET HATRED CONSUME YOU. // kekku //

My tip when playing Stiches esp when u have been matched with a noob team esp when hammer is on your team, is to use helping hand and pull hammer closer to enemy heroes when he is in seige mode so he can get killed and be pissed off at you. LOL.

Tips for Tyrande ?, ok, here’s some

1 = Don’t autopilot talents on her, EVERY SINGLE talent has a place/purpose which is also another reason why she’s in a good spot

2 = If opponents have a diver but without necessary a game-breaking CC and your team lacks the peel or your tank is not one of the “best out there” then take Mark talent at lvl1, it will buy you enough time for survival, 2% HP per AA and 4% on a hero that is marked will make you sustain long enough till your team comes to help you back

3 = If you don’t have 2 strong frontliners taking Elune’s grace is just a liability, you really need the safety in order to pull that one off, just better take the 40% extra heal on 2nd target per cycle, it’s also a good way to keep yourself alive if opponents have high burst (something like Li Ming) potential

4 = Don’t autopilot Harsh Moonlight either, sometimes the movement speed on heal increases BOTH your chances to survival as well as help your team’s tank/engager start a fight in a nastier than usual fashion

5 = If you have a bad team but at least not strong opponents that can dive in for insta kill on you, go for a FULL ON Mark build with (Mark lifesteal, Trueshot, Mark CD red. and extended duration on 13, and spread on lvl16, you can Merc like crazy like that)… So even if your team is bad-designed for head-on 5v5 against what opponents have, your chance in the lategame to make a difference by doing camps is there as well

:glhf:
