I would like to learn samuro. Can anyone give me tips to play him properly? He seems fairly complicated, with illusion master and stuff.
No, its a secret club.
I think Munky has a quide somewhere though

Most of basics are there.
Has ot been updated after the nerf of swap cd from 8 to 10s though but still accurate.
Sure, don’t roll Samuro. There are better, more effective picks out there.
Think of it this way, you could use a butterknife to cut a steak, but why would you?
Because samuro is a god damn katana.
Says the man with Illidan portrait.
Some are just really good with butterknives i guess. ![]()
Also hes alot of fun.
That was really unhelpful to the point you shouldn’t have posted it in the first place.
This is my take; You hide in the enemies pathing. Then when they run through the jungle or think they are pushing a lane BOOM! Samuro’s all around them. If they guess right just use your trait.
Never seen anyone play like this.
Is he really much of an assassin? He feels more like a specialist than anything to me. You can burst people with the right build but idk i feel like its kind of risky. Thoughts?
First things first, forget the “specialist because he can push lanes” thing.
Second thing, yes, Samuro is a macro god. You can keep pushing all lanes because of Illusion Master and suddenly you join the fight and do 3k damage on someone in less than 2 seconds, then maybe confirm the kill or swap away.
Play tlv
Learn how to macro and micro them
Get used to the keys, hotkey how u prefer
…
Completely different playstyles, dont.
Having images after lvl 10 to control for some time after which they disappear isnt even close to TLV.
Only 123 buttons are the similarity and that after 10.
I mean in terms of control groups. And it does help, they’re more rigorous than samuro, so Sam will be cake after practice.
I play Samuro with 66% wr in Diamond.
I dont have any idea how to play TLV. Id just feed all day and be useless.
You wont learn 90% of the Samuro playstyle tho, better just learn Samuro slowly in a stress free environtment like AI until you get your clones down.
Simply to learn a hero, play the hero.
Most my images stay on 1 screen at all times tbh, sometimes send 1 to swap there but thats it.
Ud be better off than most players not used to the control grouping. Its huge for tlv
Dbl punch ur 1,2, 3 to go straight to that image btw, op
I like aa set as left click, that’s just me and I use control groups on keys only to grab.
Also, illusion master is not always ur best build, dont assume its superior imo. I’d start off other ult to get a feel first and just kinda work up to it if u are brand new. Might be overwhelming trying to manage them and confuse the enemy when ur more confused than they are lol.
Nah, he has a point though. In many cases other heroes will do so much better than Samuro but that’s only because Samuro has a drastically smaller margin for error.
A Samuro player who is on top things and a perfectionist will dominate games, but its hard to maintain that standard.
I’ve played Samuro to death.
Pick Way of Illusion and solo-lane against a tank, you will add up stacks very fast.
When you get Illusion Master, always pop the clones, mount them, and spread around the map, you give yourself the option to take a camp, soak a lane, or engage the enemy and then you choose the most important task before the clones expire, e.g. join your team as they engage instead of taking a camp in that very moment.
You do this before team fights too, and stalk their healers or squishy mages with your clone, staying close within melee range, looking for the perfect opportunity to R>Q>kill>and then E out of there before taking damage.
Don’t just ride in there with all 3 and try to dps, your clones will die and you will be stuck waiting for the cooldown without helping your team – in these situations any other assassin can faceroll and be more effective than Samuro.
At teamfights, be very patient and wait for them to blow their wombo combo aa cooldowns or you will be vaporized. Better to stay alive and look for backdoor opportunities and pick offs.
Know each of your team’s heroes and how to best synergize Samuro’s abilities with them. His burst ability is particularly effective when synced with roots/stuns provided by Deckard, KTZ, Xul, etc.
Stryker has it down pretty much-im myself am mid master in EU, although i dont play him regularly in Hl, i do use him heavily in team scrims. also two things to keep in mind: you are a lategame monster, 10,13 and 16 are HUUUGE for you. before that, keep on soaking and going camp mode. also, look for reliable CC in your team comp. if you have it, don’t hesitate and get yourself merciless strikes on lvl 16, you can literally blow up a full soul Diablo alone with it.
Second, stutter step. You need it on every hero anyway but Samuro needs it even more, as 100% of your damage comes from AAs. For the sake of completeness, the build: Way of Illusion, Mirage, Phantom Pain, Shukichi and either Harsh Winds or Merciless Strikes, depending on what you got. 20, i personally grab myself Three Blade Style 95% of the time, but if you really feel like oyu need it (especially if you are not as experienced yet) go for Wind Strider. That’s about the most important things. Oh and on a side note: while you do not want to eat free damage from AoE as Stryker stated, against heroes like Li Ming, partially (but only after Blizzard is out) Jaina and Ana do not hesitate to engage early from the side and use your clones aggressivly, your lvl 4 allows you to tank skillshots HARD, and you should abuse that as hard as possible.
