[Rework] Tyrande, High Priestess of Elune

Howdy guys!!

If you’ve been around for some time, you probably got to experience at least one of the multiple reworks Tyrande has gone trough and, although I’m not totally displeased with them and I like her current position, it could be a lot better and smoother.

But that’s only one of the problems. You see, I read somewhere on Reddit (in the HotS subreddit) that someone said that “after so many iterations, the original purpose is lost”. And it’s true. Every rework is a different iteration of a given character, and every rework went trough many different iterations before even hitting the PTR, this causes the original ideas and caracteristics of the character to slowly fade away.

And that is what I’ll try to acomplish in this rework: Give Tyrande new, shiny tools that allow a smoother gameplay, while recovering some of the things that were lost on the way.

Now, let’s waste no more time and head to the Tyrande rework:

Tyrande

Base:

  1. Stats
  • Health increased from 1511 to 1560.
  • Health Regen increased from 3.1484 to 3.25.
  1. Weapon
  • Attack damage increased from 55 to 65.
  1. Sentinel [W]
  • Cooldown reduced from 15 to 12 seconds.
  • Damage increased from 120 to 140.
  1. Lunar Flare [E]
  • Damage increased from 150 to 170.
  1. Hunter’s Mark [D]
  • Armor reduction increased from 15 to 20.
  • Duration increased from 4 to 5 seconds.
  • Range increased from 6 to 7.
  1. Elune’s Chosen [1]
  • Activate to make Tyrande’s Basic Attacks heal the targeted allied Hero for 150% of the damage dealt. Lasts 10 seconds. 30 seconds Cooldown. Can be used on Tyrande at 50% power.

Talents:

Level 1 (Tier 1):

  • Elune’s Might: Revealing a hero with Sentinel or Stuning a hero with Lunar Flare increases the healing of your Light of Elune by a 10% for 3 seconds.
If a Hero dies within 1.5 seconds of being Stunned or 5 seconds of being Revealed, increase your Light of Elune’s healing by a 20% for 5 seconds.

  • Mark of Mending: Tyrande’s Basic Attacks heal her for 3% of her maximum health. If an enemy dies while under the effects of Hunter’s Mark, reset it’s cooldown.

  • Trueshot Aura: Activate to share this bonus with all nearby allies for 5 seconds.
Passive: Tyrande gains 10% bonus Basic Attack damage and Spell Power.

Level 4 (Tier 2):

  • Lunar Blaze: !Quest: Hit enemy Heroes with Lunar Flare. Heroes that die within 1.5 seconds of being hit grant 3 stacks.
Reward: Hitting a Hero with Lunar Flare permanently increases its damage by 5%.
Reward: After hitting 10 heroes, increase Lunar Flare’s range by 30%.

  • Ranger: Sentinel’s width is increased by 25%, it now pierces all targets and deals up to 250% more damage based on distance traveled.

  • Huntress Fury: Increases Tyrande’s Basic Attack range by 1. Basic Attacks reduce Hunter’s Mark cooldown by 1 second. Every third Basic Attack splashes to nearby enemies for 30% more damage, reduces Hunter’s Mark cooldown by an additional second and reduces the armor of non-Heroes by 10 for 2 seconds, stacks with Hunter’s Mark.

Level 7 (Tier 3):

  • Moonlit Arrows: Basic Attacks decrease the cooldown of Light of Elune by an additional 0.75 seconds.

  • Kaldorei Resistance: Light of Elune grants the target 15 spell armor for 3 seconds. If used twice in the same target, grant 15 armor instead.

  • Divine Priesthood: Reduce Light of Elune’s cooldown by 6 seconds and increase its healing by a 30%, but Basic Attacks no longer reduce it’s cooldown.

Level 10 (Tier 4):

  • Shadowstalk: Grant all allied Heroes Stealth for 10 seconds and heal them for 380 health over 10 seconds. Reveals all enemy heroes for 2 seconds. Remaining stationary for at least 1.5 seconds while Stealthed grants Invisible. Cooldown: 90 seconds.

  • Starfall: Deal 88 damage per second, apply Hunter’s Mark and Slow enemies by 25% in an area. Lasts 8 seconds. Cooldown: 70 seconds.

Level 13 (Tier 5):

  • Celestial Attunement: Light of Elune removes Stuns, Silences and Slows from it’s target.

  • Everlasting Light: If Light of Elune is cast on a different target than the last, it heals 60% more and it’s cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds.
Hitting a Hero with Sentinel or Lunar Flare grants one charge of Light of Elune. Healing or damaging a Hero with Light of Elune reduces Sentinel’s and Lunar Flare’s cooldown by 2 seconds.

    • Max Light of Elune’s charges is still 2, so it only replenishes already used charges.
  • Elune’s Wrath: Light of Elune increases the damage its target deals by 25% for 3 seconds.

Level 16 (Tier 6):

  • Lunar Shower: Hitting an enemy Hero with Lunar Flare reduces its cooldown by 7 seconds and refunds its mana cost.

  • Harsh Moonlight: Hitting an enemy with Sentinel reduces it’s cooldown by 2 seconds. The first target hit by Sentinel is slowed by 40% and deals 40% reduced damage.

  • Darnassian Archery: Basic attacks against enemy heroes increase your Basic Attack speed and Basic Attack damage by a 3% for 4 seconds.
Basic attacking enemy Heroes reduce their damage done by an 8% for 3 seconds, up to 40%. Enemy Heroes whose damage is reduced by a 40% by this talent receive 25% more damage from Tyrande.

Level 20 (Tier 7):

  • Dori’Thur’s Blessing: Activate to reset Sentinel’s cooldown and increase the damage of your next sentinel by a 50%. 60 seconds cooldown.
Passive: Increases Sentinel’s damage by a 25%. Dori’Thur pursues the last enemy hero hit by Sentinel, granting vision over them for up to 10 seconds. This effect can be cleansed.

  • Celestial Wrath: Enemies hit by Lunar Flare have their armor reduced by 10 for 3 seconds. This stacks additively with Hunter’s Mark.
If an enemy dies within 1.5 seconds of being hit by Lunar Flare, cast a free Lunar Flare on the closest enemy. This Lunar Flare prefers Heroes and does not benefit from Celestial Wrath.

  • Shooting Star: Increases Sentinel’s reveal duration to 10 seconds and Lunar Flare’s stun duration to 1 second.
Hitting an enemy Hero with Lunar Flare increases Tyrande’s Basic Attack speed by a 30% for 6 seconds. Tyrande’s Basic Attacks against enemies revealed by Sentinel deal 1.5% of their maximum life as bonus damage.

  • Night Warrior: Activate to turn into the Night Warrior for 20 seconds, which allows you to use Light of Elune on enemies to deal 75% of its healing as damage.

    • If Kaldorei Resistance (Tier 3) was picked, Light of Elune reduces enemy spell armor (armor when used twice) by 15.
    • If Celestial Attunement (Tier 5) was picked, Light of Elune slows enemy movement speed by a 30%.
    • If Elune’s Wrath (Tier 5) was picked, Light of Elune decreases enemy damage dealt by a 25%.

I will be honest, I’ve been iterating and changing back and fort things. I overall like the result, but I feel some things need working. I must admit this was a challenge; while going trough Tyrande’s talents I realized there are many things I still don’t know about her, and while inquiring about popular and efficient builds I noticed there are gaps in talent popularity that are way bigger than I thought, Celestial Attunement for one.

You may notice the changes in Tyrande aren’t as drastic: Many of her actual talents are still there in one way or another, some of them were just merged, and the mayority switched with other talents. This is because Tyrande didn’t have an identity crisis or anything similar, her fantasy was intact, it’s just that some of the tools she has don’t allow her to fully shine. Even so, it was hard to come up with the ideas despite having the actual iteration in a good spot, for some reason.

Now, on to a bit of explanation:
I reduced Tyrande’s attack range a bit to both force her into more risky situations and encourage the use of Huntress Fury(after enough feedback, I decided against this and gave Tyrande her range back), but I increased her health a tiny little bit to compensate for the added risk. I also reduced her overall damage by reducing attack damage and attack speed(Again, feedback, plus the fact I was already kind of unsure if it was the right move). This was to compensate for the Hunter’s Mark buff, which was done to reinforce Tyrande’s capability to enable a kill or burst down an objective.

As for other changes, Lunar Blaze can now be stacked to infinity and beyond. Because everyone likes infinite quests, right? Also, Tier 3 and Tier 5 are completely and solely focused in Tyrande’s Q because they are supposed to be flexible choices that complement whatever build you choose to pursue, but they are meant to be directly exclusive.

The rest of the changes are pretty self-explanatory. If, per chance, you saw my Whitemane rework, you may be seeing a pattern: W, E and D/AA builds. Given Tyrande is a more aggressive healer, with sustained damage but more bursty healing, I decided not to create a Q build out of nowhere because I think that never existed, and instead focused on bringing back Owl build and created instead an E build based off the talents already existant. I also enhanced D/AA build. Unlike Whitemane though, Tyrande’s talents where less thought as builds and more as flexible tools that you can mix and match for different purposes.

Well, I believe that’s all for now. If you have questions, corrections or suggestions, please feel free to tell me. I’ll gladly discuss anything about the rework and make changes accordingly.

And, in case you haven’t and you feel like doing it, you can check out my Whitemane rework too!!

I like your idea and that you came with solutions more then just rework her she is bad.
Her range is fine. Her D needs to be used as a follow up. She doesnt need to be in melee distance to heal. We already have whitemane and uther who are close healers. I dont want to get into risky situations to put out a heal

Her W lvl 4 can be looked into again but thats it

Hi, thank you for your opinion.

I reduced Tyrande’s attack range because I wanted Huntress Fury to put her in the same range with Raynor (6.6), and I thought that a talent increasing attack range by 0.6 would look weird. If you think increasing her range by 0.6 isn’t weird and could work, then restoring Tyrande to her usual attack range would be possible, since it’s possible Huntress Fury doesn’t need more reasons to be taken.

I would be happy if they just raised her AA damage. For a ‘carry healer’ (which she is not anymore) the risk of constantly being in combat is not worth her damage output.

Hunters mark may have been nerfed too far IMO

I’m not entirely sure what you mean? I increased Hunter’s Mark armor reduction and duration. Unless you mean the loss of a specific talent?

Could you elaborate a bit so I can solve the issue?

I reduced her AA damage because of the Hunter’s Mark buff. In this rework se should, on paper, deal the same if not a bit more damage. But I can think about increasing her AA damage by other ways.

you’ve got my vote! i love tyrande and this is an interesting rework idea.

I like it but I want true Owl build back, I wanna get 5 man kills with my Sentinel

that would be awesomeeeeee i loved the owl build too but sadly people cried so hard about “not being able to dodge it” RIP owl build ><

It’s literally what got me into HoTs was sniping people with owl while also doing good heals RIP

RIP indeed… was my favorite build on tyrande owl for life! and they took it from us cause bad player’s can’t dodge the owls :sob:

Literally loved going Owl build vs Abathur when Tyrande was considered a support in QM, it was so much fun, especially when the Aba hid in the hall

lmao hiding for his life can’t push any lane cause the owl is watching!!! :joy:

I could buff Ranger to allow that behaviour. Any other ideas or things that you liked about Owl build that are not present?

That’s exactly the essence I wanted to give! :joy: I don’t know if I accomplished it tho.

I think something to increase the healing would be good so you can heal plus be a snipe machine but idk because Blizzard doesn’t life when healers can do things other than be heal bots

Technically you should already be able to heal fair amounts even if built towards sniping. With Elune’s Chosen baseline and two tiers focused solely on Q should be easy.

Let me give you an example of one path: Tyrande’s Light of Elune heals 459 health at 20. Take Elune’s Might to empower your Elune’s Chosen and have a reliable source of constant healing. Then take Divine Priesthood: Now Light of Elune’s cooldown is 10 seconds and it heals 597. You can pick Shadowstalk if you wish for more healing, but it’s not required. Finally, pick Everlasting Light: If you constantly heal different targets, your Light of Elune would heal 872 on a 6 seconds cooldown, that’s 90% more healing with 10 seconds less of cd!!!

And the best thing? You don’t miss on any of the owl talents.

It was more the owl build was a QM meme, fun, but made Tyrande a less than 5% pick in HL, this is the reason the devs gave for reworking her.

She was too niche, it’s a pity they couldn’t have reworked her but retained the owl snipe build if you wanted to build that way…but eh, I like the rework.

if you reduce her range it’s pointless, she needs her range. Although you compensate with some broken stuff lol

imo it’s too much, like the 20 upgrade are above storm talents classic power spikes, same with 16

I would rather have the plain Tyrande from 2016 where she could litteraly build into anything. That would be my Tyrande rework lel

I like what you did but it’s too much. And on another point is you kept Tyrande’s current mechanic of aa to heal but you decrease her range and only give it kinda back on a dps talent where we can’t pick lunar blaze. I don’t like this. But I like your rework but it’s broken

Ahh, how I miss this version. I like the latest rework, but the 2016 version was so many levels of fun and the builds were very flexible and fun. This is one thing they got wrong with when they reworked the duelist owl spam version.

Well I made some changes. Hopefully took out the broken stuff? I don’t know I have a tendency to break things, that’s why I ask for all the feedback I can get lol.

I also gave her her range back, enough people asked about it and unlike blizz I listen to people (J/K :stuck_out_tongue:).

I didn’t get that far back in my investigation I fear. I mean I tried but… Don’t know. I know I got to play with that Tyrande but I just don’t remember a thing. I did try to keep it flexible, like in theory you should be able to pick whatever better suits the moment rather than being encased in a singular build. But, as Lady Cassandra the Seeker would say, “How seldom does reality match the ideals.”

I play Tyrande a lot and I have to say this rework idea is really bad. She is one of the strongest healer now, you buffed every single one of her strengths, add old Sentinel build and much more. Your rework is over complicated. Sometimes you combined 3 talents together. If this went live we would most likely have the first hero with 75% winrate.

Firstly, old Sentinel build will never come back. Just deal with it. It was fun for QM players, but it made her useless everywhere. She was more a meme than a hero. If anything Sentinel should be reworked to its WIII version.

Elune’s Chosen is her strongest lvl 1 talent and the best choice in most cases. You made it baseline ad buffed, this is a huge buff! It shouldn’t be baseline.

If you are good at Tyrande you use her trait to secure kill, it doesn’t need any buff.

What is this??? You use Sentinel to reveal enemy and E for setup, not for their dmg. You don’t want to waste it for 9 bonus healing per AA. Additionally, what if someone dies while he is revealed, but Elune’s Chosen isn’t active? Will i get the bonus for the next Elune’s Chosen? Or will it force me to wait until enemy is low before I use Elune’s Chosen to make it sure that I will get its bonus?

Can you imagine combined Elune’s Chosen and this talent on Tyrande? More than 140 self healing per AA (65 x 1,5 + 1560 x 0,03 = 144,3) at lvl 1! Apparently, Tyrande is a tank now… Additionally, the mark’s purpose is to kill the target, not to easily wipe whole enemy team!

Why do you removed the cap? This talent isn’t broken, but it creates crazy combos with other E talents.

Seriously? 3 talents combined into one??? This is busted as hell!

It used to be 15 armor for 3 seconds, but is was nerfed to 10 armor for 2 seconds because it was op.

Why do you want to remove one of her core mechanics?

Again OMG! If you split this into 3 independent talents, all would be really good. This is busted as hell!

I think even pros wouldn’t understand this.

I know you probably wanted to restore some of her pre rework utility. However, you turned her into best healer in the game, better AA dps than Valla and Raynor combined, you gave her infinite stuns at 20. Some of potential combos:

  • Lunar Blaze + Everlasting Light + Lunar Shower - infinite stuns and heals for no mana

  • Mark of Mending + Huntress Fury + Darnassian Archery + Shooting Star while your trait and Elune’s Chosen are active. By far the best AA assassin in the game with better self heal than most tanks.

You gave her two CD reduction talents for all her basic abilities and you can have both CD reduction talents for Q+W or Q+E at the same time.
