Resurrect VS Crystal Aegis

Resurrect:

Pros

  • Undoes burst and sustained damage
  • Does not require as much map awareness or timing because the effect is applied after someone dies
  • Effectively maintains the momentum of a team fight
  • Light Speed at 20 grants her and her team lower death timers
  • Allies are back with full HP and mana

Cons

  • Can stagger deaths if used poorly
  • Longer cooldown than Crystal Aegis
  • Feeds XP

Crystal Aegis:

Pros

  • Negates massive burst damage
  • Grants respectable energy if it damages enemies
  • Can maintain the momentum of a fight by preventing deaths or heavy dives altogether
  • Shorter cooldown than res
  • Diamond resolve at level 20 grants an incredible 75 armor but for a single target

Cons

  • Staggers deaths if poorly used, as low HP allies may get focused and killed after the crystal expires
  • Requires much more awareness and timing
  • Not as effective against constant/sustained damage

Both of her ults do essentially the same thing, protect a single target for a while, but which one is better now and why and when should you pick one over the other? Any points I potentially missed?

Thats now exactly true, how does it negate burst if its useful when ally dies (and after it feeds xp)? Thats Aegis. And thats my main problem with this ult.

Last patch was basically a buff without changing a functionality. Hope it works, but dont think so. Dont forget Auriel also received buff to Hope self generation, so Aegis damage and her healing is insane to begin with.
Its still prevent death vs do something after death.

I was rather looking for something like activate R to make Bestow hope target for next 1 second unkillable. After taking fatal damage “do what Rezz does right now” instead.
As a side note, I still think Auriel got one of the most underwhelming ults in the game (but her base kit is solid so ok).

It has the ability to undo anything, be it sustain or burst damage. I suppose I didnt word it in a way that would satisfy you.

I think Res with Light speed at 20 will end up being insane actually lol

I am Rez Auriel now. Pray for Mercy or Medic from TF2.

I don’t understand how stagering deaths is a con. Wouldn’t not having your whole team dead at the same time be preferable?

Because if you stagger deaths then you’re without your full team for longer and thus at a disadvantage longer. It means you’re going to struggle competing for objectives and team fights for longer and it can snowball pretty easily if you gotta fight 4 v 5 a lot. If everyone dies at roughly the same time you’re at a bigger disadvantage but it’s for less time.

And yet Resurrect can turn a fight into 5v6 if a priority target gets picked off. It allows you to undo the mistakes others might do, and now that it allows you to self-rez, you can also punish enemies for focusing you. Crystal aegis can be used to delay but the ally has to continue fighting with current health/mana. If used wisely, resurrect has more power. If you ofc revive people when theyre 1v5…yeah…

Res feels awful to play against and probably always will. if you can survive 3 seconds you get the person who got picked back good as new 3 seconds later. You can use it to make a 1 for 1 trade more than worth it, they get a free full heal. Its essentially a lower skill input palm, with a bit more value but a longer cooldown.

The EXP from one pick isn’t a super big deal if you can win the fight. Res is definitely viable now, but probably not broken.

The level 20 is super OP though, and I think letting auriel res herself is a mistake. If you manage to kill a hero before they use their ult, it should not be able to get value regardless of that. Player skill is important. And letting auriel resurrect herself is doing the opposite of emphasizing that.

Yeah I also kinda always disagreed with a self res because then the player isn’t possibly punished for their own mistakes

The thing is, it is always better to prevent damage than healing it. Same goes to Aegis vs Res. It is much better to prevent all the damage using Aegis than having someone die first and then using Res.

That is also why cleanse is so powerful. Denying a CC means you don’t usually have to waste ressources (cooldown abilities + mana) to heal that person.

Back to Aegis vs Res, the delay is also a thing. Res has a channel of 0.5 sec and the person comes back to life after 3 seconds. Aegis makes someone invulnerable for 2 seconds and there’s no channel.

That’s literally 2 seconds against 3.5, which is a big difference when it comes to teamfights.

There’s also the fact that some heroes benefit from killing someone, like getting a reset (ming/genji) or getting stacks (malthael LR). So you really don’t want someone dying.

It definitely seems like it isn’t fair for auriel to self res tho. Stunning her and silencing her prevents her from using crystal to protect herself but with res she just doesn’t care and revives herself. I’m just worried that the self res will cause them to nerf Light Speed and I wouldn’t want that because that lvl 20 talent is really fun

But remember, if you take Res you basically don’t have an ultimate for the teamfight. It’s a fair trade in my opinion. I wouldn’t worry too much about them nerfing the level 20.

Also, can someone confirm it is bugged? I’ve seen someone say somewhere (I think it was on discord) that you can’t self Res if you take the level 20.

Except using Aegis requires you to be psychic so you don’t just make things worse by making me watch the approach of my own impending death. I HATE having CA used on me because a significant portion of the time all it does is provide the enemy with even more time to set up for the kill when it wears off.

If I had my choice it would be to have a different healer, but barring that I’d rather get the opportunity to engineer my own escape and have to be rezed if I fail, or just outright die, than be locked down by “friendly fire” and get murdered when the CA wears off.

Well, it shouldn’t be a problem in higher ranks because people are actually good at the game and know cooldowns and everything.

I guess Res is good for low ranks and CA is good for higher.

this, i love the buffs, eventhough rez was already a strong ult but the self-rez just doesn’t make sense, from a technical point of view too

I got Auriel as my main healer and my 3rd most played hero.
I found myself picking Ress previous to the patch maybe 1 in every 10 games.
Was quite usefull before the patch, now it is quite insane, so much value.
