Resurgence of the Storm, new talents

So, I was looking at some RotS footage, and noticed that some talents had been moved, and completely new ones were made for existing heroes.

For example, I noticed during the game that the player kept using Falstad’s flight to move 2 steps away. So I figured there must be a quest talent with Z, even though that didn’t make much sense to me. And indeed there was. (The player hovers it REALLY quickly at the start of the game and I didn’t notice until the end)

If you complete the quest, you get all level 1 talents. It feels kind of weird to have people waste such an important ability, but at the same time, maybe the goal is to get players to actually use it.

I don’t know if Arthas is actually playable there (by playable I mean isn’t the worse tank in any MobA) but I did notice they moved “Icebound Fortitude” to level 4 instead of 7. It used to be considered a must pick for him. Also, it looks like his E no longer reduces attack speed. I’m not sure what it does here. But it feels useless without the AA counter. Unless Arthas was massively buffed.

Also not really completely sure what Talandar’s abilities are. But it seems to be like ETC where he gets Armor from all of them. He seems to have a dash grant him 50 armor, as well as an active healing ability that gives him 30 armor while he heals.

You can check the whole game here.

That’s the guy I’ve been complaining about in my last post. Somewhat skilled and knowledgeable about the game but his posse are all clowns. From what I’ve noticed in the past week he plays in high stacked party exclusively.

Every name associated with our hero protagonist does the same and enjoys an equally high winrate. You can notice the pattern from their replay uploads for +0.11 a match how after a while they just rotate out a single player to a fresh account to loosen up the matchmaker.

I would guess that’s what it takes to run a hots youtube channel.

That Falstad talent is a really big meme, but has a big problem, you finish roughly around level 10, level 10 without level 1 talents that are literally supposed to be stacked now is very dangerous red flag, they’ve been unironically balancing it from what I’ve seen, but some of these balance decisions are too much wild and silly but I understand that it’s coming from trying to differentiate it from the HotS itself, one thing to note that Arthas is also fully reworked in this to be a tank, so he doesn’t play exactly the same like in HotS.

From one side, very cool project, gave it a shot and the installation is extremely easy solution too so there’s a lot of thought into it for a mod that tries to enable an arcade variation of HotS, but I would be wary with criticism because there’s a huge lack of ranged assassins, with the only “ranged” one of all ranges is Tychus and Falstad right now, so balancing is favoring some oddballs in this video which is very expected.

Sorry bro, but these people legitimately reached Master/GM soloq at one point or still are while some competed on the Communtiy Esport’s scene levels under Khaldor, they are good in their own rights, but there’s far worse people than those who you are implying, also big derailment post.

What are malfurions talents like?

Wow, private servers for this game popped up far faster than I thought. I was actually unsure if you could even sustain a private server for a fairly small population Moba to begin with (since even the main servers struggle with player counts).

Will they ever make it public? It will for sure get more new heroes and updates than the main client, even if it’s not maintained or balanced by professional devs I’d give it a shot.

Does it have any other playable new heroes besides Talandar?

I thought it was a StarCraft II map… Given how the engines are extremely similar (HotS is based on StarCraft II) these sort of things have been showing up since HotS’s early days.

It has to be, since HotS itself runs entirely on a modified SC2 engine.
HotS is essentially just a bunch of custom SC2 maps and heroes.

I wonder if they’ll let other people play it.

You can the entire source code is there to be downloaded and played if you have SC2 downloaded

I half expect Blizzard to throw a hissy fit over this despite them burying the game pretty much everywhere and allowing it to slowly bleed players.

It is however nice that the game has such a strong following that people are making private servers for variations of the game.

If there’s anyone less trustworthy than Blizzard for balance, it’s the folks that run private servers. Zero interest in ever playing this, even if the entire population moves there.

The thing about community patches, updates, and whatnot is that it is very easy to fall into the pit of giving everyone what they want or caving to peer pressure with balance zooming out into orbit. It is especially difficult keeping any bias off the table for or against anything. Being that HotS is a versus mode, that is going to have a severe impact if the people in charge fall to such trappings.

An example of things getting blown out of proportion is the Unofficial Community Patch (UCP for short) for Borderlands 2. It was originally conceived due to how severely limited skills and builds were in the final difficulty, and especially the Overpower levels which really shoe-horned players in builds as well as made certain developer decisions glaringly obvious.

However, what started out as something to iron out how cheesy Ultimate difficulty was as well as the Overpower levels went off the rails with buffs happening everywhere until it was to the point a player has to go out of their way to struggle into the hardest difficulty.

So, I understand being skeptical concerning private servers. I will admit I had a blast with the UCP patch as being a Jakobs fan boy (Jakobs suffered in Ultimate Vault Hunter mode and especially in the Overpowered levels) I had a blast with the buffs and skill changes.

Unfortunately, as others pointed out, it does look like they are going down a route with this variation of the game that is going to cause issues. Rather than address heroes that actually need attention such as Valeeera and her energy talents, they’re changing up heroes that are already solid for the sake of change, or just to have them change to their own image.
