Remove Varian from the game

Careful cursing Varian! The cruse will bounce back on to you and you will always get twin blades every time you get a Varian for good or for ill! WooOOooOOo! :ghost:

I would say it’s other way around. Current Varian QM rule is the one that more dictates how the Varian player should play the game (by comp of each team, by pressure, expectation from other players), when it should be the player who picked Varian to decide how to play.

What the guy suggested, which I voiced out before as well, changes that. It’s the Varian player deciding how to play, and QM system adhering to that. It’s on Varian player’s discretion after that.

Far be it from me to claim how easy or hard this is to implement. But I really don’t think it’s gonna be that difficult (if the devs decide to put some time on it that is). Some copy paste codes, change name of the variables, add the ARAM style disable ult thing.

Oh yeah. This type of addition to QM could open up more options as well. Like adding different version Tassadar (old Tass, which I’m sure they still have the codes of).

What a convenient advice. :upside_down_face:

You’re correct. I somehow missread Mike’s post as saying something like only being able to go Taunt in QM. It actually makes a fair amount of sense after re-reading the post but I still prefer players figuring their roles out themselves instead of the matchaker.

And now do be careful. Some people are still healing.

As above, my bad. Sorry about the confusion. Anyway, the old bone called Varian has been picked so extensively that it’s almost implied that every time he gets mentioned it’s about his lvl 4. Personally I think Varian should belong to the bygone specialist category with other odd birds. It was a good category for non-standard heroes that added a degree of unpredictability, but alas…

I’d prefer if he would be matched as tank or bruiser or melee assassin (flexibly).
It would be possible and fair to know which role you are matched into, or even limit it.

Since we’re talking about QM, the talent choices aren’t always clear, however.

A lot of times roles are not mirrored, or not perfectly. A single Murky against two bruisers. A single bruiser shooed to solo lane into a melee heavy comp on a two lane map. A bruiser that’s willing to tank in this scenario, but has no survival. (Three ranged cannons and a healer, though, might be optimal anyway.)

Taunt Varian is great, but sometimes the best tanking option is one of the others. Specifically, in the absence of a healer, Varian would be suicidal, and - unironically - Twin Blades can be the most threatening choice (with level 10 protected of course, I believe most everyone takes sustain talents either way in other tiers). I’ve often engaged, lost 90% my life, pinged retreat, cleared a lane and returned with full health, reengaged and won.

Admittedly my Varian results vary a lot, despite feeling good he’s around 40%, I started with a really sad 15-20% until one very successful streak (getting out of the mud rank I slipped into).

I think Varian’s problem is the same as Illidan, with certain supports (Aba, but Medivh in particular) he is disgusting, and if you lose you should cancel account because really, go gardening. (With Medivh you can have 80% protected uptime and 120% damage prevention. Yes, healing. I would know as a Q Ming. Three more slots to make it literally unstoppable.)

Yes yes yes yes.

Yes!

My only beef with Varian is that he “ruins” the bruiser role if you are playing random select. If I only wanted to play Varian tank, or well, Rexxar (the second most assigned RS hero), I’d just queue up as either.
