Reminder why buying loot chests is a bad idea

I earned 77 loot chests through leveling heroes plus a few from this mini game for xmas. i decided being xmas yesterday i should open them all and see how much stuff i get. i only own maybe 25 heroes so roughly 1/3 of the roster.

Out of 77 loot chest, i recieved 1 hero - that i already owned. i got 6 skins and i think 3 mounts. So a total of 10 items that were not sprays or emoji’s. i got 3 boosts that dont stack so yeah that was pointless so save them all for one massive opening

I felt a little ripped. Then i wondered, what would 77 chests cost in gems, which cost money. Lets just say that youd need 2 different chest packs for like 6500 gems which is pretty much $100.

Dont by the gamble boxes that have more fluff for chat than anything else. Im glad i never dropped a dime on this game and feel sorry for anyone who did.

Eh… there’s times and places where loot chests are better than others.

The way it works in HotS, chests become less valuable if you’re experienced. Also, if you are a regular player, chests are a lesser value purchase compared to a Stim Pack (or whatever we’re calling them now), since a more intensive player will get more chests from playing than from a one-time purchase.

Purchasing chests directly is, however, pretty good if you’re either new or if there’s an event currently going on and/or you’re new. I was one of the winners of the 50 Summer Chests last year, and because I didn’t have any of the Summer things, 50 chests went a heck of a long way for me and I got multiple cool epic/legendary items I didn’t own and ended up using. However, if I’d just bought 50 chests at any other time of the year, I probably would have just gotten nothing of interest beyond the free Celestial mount they offer.

If you don’t play too often, or you’re new, or there’s an event going on, buying the loot boxes is actually not a bad buy if you’re interested in skins. However, if you don’t tick those boxes, you’re better off buying a Stim, or nothing at all.

Pretty sure you get rare lootchests and not normal ones if you buy them. Not saying that buying lootchests is a good idea, but your 77 are most likely ~70 normal chests, so not really comparable. Also 6500 gems are closer to 60$ than 100$.

I think stimpacks are the best deal if you are somewhat active. You get more gold/game and more xp, which leads to more lootboxes trough levelups and more gold through every 5th levelup (and theres also the 150 free gems every 25 levels).
If you care about cosmetics, you can use the gold to reroll stuff for more shards/loot you want and if you care about unlocking heroes, you get there pretty fast.

i had 50 normal chests the rest were mixed rare epic and 4 legendary.

I definately disagree that they are worth anything. RNG loot can be great for some and nit so great for others, hence gambling . Id rather be able to get gold for duplicates and be able to buy heroes instead of more skins or sprays.

I don’t need a reminder. It’s pretty obvious. Don’t buy loot chests.

If you open chests, make sure you have the gold to reroll them.

Each chest is effectively 3 chests for every 1500 gold you have. I generally reroll if I dont have at least an epic reward and in the 25 or so that I have opened during the Christmas toy event I have received 4 legendaries.

I’ve also run out of gold, so I have about 15 chests still to open.

I’d only buy loot chests if it was the only way to get awesome cosmetics for Mei.

I would disagree, buying chests is never a good idea, especially for new players. New players are better off saving any real money spent on buying Heroes, not cosmetics or for slim the chance to roll a hero or cosmetics in a loot chest.
