Rehgar Build Guide

I recently saw someone call him a niche healer and it shook me to the point that I made this guide. The only time i’d say that he isn’t a generalist/good pick is when the enemy has a frontline and you dont, but that applies to most supports. I’d also like to say that some people play him too aggressively. He should be played aggressive, but when compared to healers not to say bruisers. If he dives in first he’s going to get blown up.

TLDR: w build with cdr is the go to, get cleanse if youre in higher ranks. Either ult is good any time (but bloodlust is optimal if you have 2+ aa heroes). Dont get ancestral vs ana

1 Talents:
W in most cases
Totem upgrade if you want to eventually reduce attack speed

4 Talents:
W is never a bad choice. It means you’ll rarely run out of mana
Healing totem I pick for totem build. Totem build has the most mana issues imo and i like how you can use it for sustained healing (that totem build lacks)

7 Talents:
Dog Bite CDR is my top choice. it really synergizes with w build and amps up your healing, shields (ie dmg). It works vs minions too so you dont need to dive deep to get that extra healing
Cleanse: only get if youre confident in your teammates capabilities. Its like medivh where both the player and their teammates need to understand how to use it. you lose alot of healing if you get this for your teammates to waste the 1 second (or if you dont know when to use it).
Totem: Great against melee divers. If you go totem build its a must pick. Also good vs xul, any ranged autoattackers.

10:
Bloodlust is fanstastic, I prefer ancestral but dont let people tell you that bloodlust is niche. Some rehgar mains only pick it. I stick to picking it only when i see 2 other people on my team that could get value out of it.

Ancestral, try to use early in fights, if you dont the delay could mean the target dies. if theyre at 60-70 percent health and getting targetted just use it.

13 Talents:
if you get cdr at 7 I prefer shields here. If not then get the cdr on your q. This is also the case if your team needs more sustained healing.

16 Talents:
Rising Storm for W build and totem slow for totem build. Some people prefer the slow regardless but imo the totems are too easy to destroy.

Dog bite talent is trap talent. I argue that it has uses but those are at best very very niche.

Level 20:
I’m not a fan of the ult upgrades. I love storm shield, but if i’m going totem build i stick to rewind.

Feel free to add your thoughts. I have a 62 percent winrate with rehgar in diamond/plat.

I just disagree with the cleanse part. I think everyone should get it 100% of the time just because of how powerful it is even when your teammates are bad. Cleanse saves lives way more than heals. Belive me. Most people think that you only get value with cleanse if your team is also good and walk away when you cleanse them, but that’s not true. You get value at all time, everytime you use it you are getting value, even if you are just cleansing a 25% slow. Most people think you need a pretty big cleanse play, but in fact the small cleanse plays is what makes cleanse so good.

I agree with all the rest. I’d also go bloodlust if the enemy has an Ana.

But what if their only cc is muradin or someone with low cc value.
I see that often , enemy has low cc and cleanse gets taken over talents that bring a bit more flexibility in the overal teamfight (cleanse is good dont get me wrong)

I agree, outside silly fun games, cleanse is needed in every match because it not only removes existing Cc chains but prevents incoming ones from happening at all (like frost blast into stun that will surely kill your teammate).

Cleanse also completely counters certain heroic abilities or prevents them from being used effectively, like Lamb to the Slaughter or Octo-grab.

Also Bloodlust is something I only consider for ‘silly games’ in Brawl, Ancestral is needed almost every match unless you have a freak game with 3 very good AA heroes.

But all other talents I agree with OP, I try to take as many W talents as possible.

Muradin, constant stuns, probably double stun at 20, definitely 100% take cleanse. Even just cleansing his slow is good enough.

Edited: I was thinking about comps where cleanse might not be needed and started just messing around forming several comps. What I found out? It is almost impossible to have a composition where cleanse is not valuable since all comps will have CC.

Rehgar can do so much more healing with the cdr. The closer i get to diamond and when i have a master/low diamond in the game the cleanse is a mustpick, but in plat games/high diamond cc is mostly ignored and its just not worth losing 1 sometimes 2 extra heals/shields in the teamfight.

Lower level teamfights are better described as multiple duels rather than a true 5v5

I agree with you talents choices, but his lvl 20 Bloodlust upgrade is insanely ridiculous you have to try it. I’m literally exclusively playing Bloodlust now because of that upgrade.

A pseudo-global Bloodlust that lasts the entire team right and more. The enemy cannot disengage and wait it out anymore.
