Hi,
i have question to some recommended difficulty to heroes. Why is Uther or Malfurion mentioned as “easy” and Brightwing as “hard” or Whitemane as “medium”? What are the criteria for this rating? I don’t understand it at all.
Do you know other weird criteria to heroes difficulty?

the criteria is an intern at blizzard pulling categories outta his butt.

They never changed things, malf was easy before the 5 reworks

And still i am surprised about Brightwing being hard to play…

Brightwing is often though of as “easy” because of the heal over time, but you really need to land center hits on flare constantly in order to have good healing out put. Additionally, using your spell shield properly can be somewhat challenging.
So I don’t know that hard would be the correct classification, but she sure isn’t easy.

I agree, Brightwing isn’t easy. The labels are out of date as many have stated, but they are only a general guide. Brightwing requires all what your wrote and a good macro sense to get as much out of her Z as possible. Without good map awareness you won’t be a good Brightwing player. Given so many people don’t look at their mini maps, she can’t be given the label of easy.
As I said, the labels are just a guide, they should ideally rate the skill floor and skill ceiling for each hero. There is also the problem that we all excel differently. Some people can quickly master a hero that’s considered hard to play, but may never master one that is easy to play. Someone who can’t play any kind of melee role, all tanks, bruisers and melee assassins are going to be in the “very hard” category for them.

Yes, yes! I am a player for whom almost all ranged assassins class as “Very Very Hard: Do Not Pick.” I understand the vague nature of the difficulty.
I think a “learning and mastering” kind of indicator might be best.

Illidan got dropped from Very Hard to Easy in ~2015. Then to medium.
After that I paid absolutely no mind to the classifications… They are bad and pointless, the only accurate ones seem to be the remaining Very Hard ones (Medivh, Abathur, Viking).

Last time Blizzard updated some of that Leo went from hard to easy and Illidan from hard to medium.

It’s subjective in the end, of course, that there are some heroes like Genji wich people understand that it’s very difficult to properly play it, but some people might get the hang of it better than others. It also has to do with the fact that how much you like the hero, and there are other cases that a Hero is easy to play but hard to master, like Yrel.

Then some heroes have different difficulty depending on build
Like li Ming has all 3 depending on weather you go calamity, orb or cannoneer

That is funny, Illidan easy, I just came out of a QM where we managed to carry a 11 death Illidan. I thought he was still rated hard but you’re correct, it’s medium!

I can’t think of any melee assassin harder to play correctly than him, I don’t think even Illusion Samuro is. Mostly because he gets countered by so many things and has such a low health pool. He has been nerfed into a state where he is barely even last picked in draft.
When he does get picked - once in a blue moon- he is now some sort of weird split pusher with hunt + Abathur hat going between lanes.

The classifications are not really valid anymore. I wouldn’t pay much attention to them. I don’t think they ever truly were valid.
If I were to guess what exactly they’re supposed to mean, I’d guess it would be in general, how easy are they to learn to play averagely. But even this definition isn’t accurate to this game.
I could understand that many of these heroes has been prefer difficulty recently when I found Dehaka or Artanis as “medium” didn’t weird for it. also I have these questions that heroes such as Valla, Raynor, Zarya & Jaina as “easy” for it.
I’ve just updated my skill cap list of heroes.
It goes from the easiest (0%) to the hardest (100%)
I took into consideration the most recent reworks into individual patch, meaning for example that only the latest Cassia’s patch counts while the other heroes data comes from the beginning of patch 2.50.0.
Long list ahead.
Don’t mind cho’gall’s difficulty.
Sorry in advance for the format.
Aba is at 47.8% while Alarak is at 56.3%

Your avatar: Samuro? Mastering Illusion Master is a tough job to do, because it is similar to Vikings? For me personally is Vikings the hardest hero in the game, because he has to control 3 heroes and in the best case to micro them on 3 different lanes.
I probably understand your list wrong, but how is Zerathul around 30 and the Butcher on 21? I just don’t understand it. At least Varian on 13 I do understand.
