My friend and I like to team up and play Heroes of the Storm as a duo.

The intro:

My friend’s rank last season in team league: masters.
In hero league: Did not play.

My rank in team league last season: Plat 4
In hero league: Silver 2

From this you can deduce that his MMR is probably around Master level, while mine is somewhere in Gold.

Here’s the kicker.

My friend’s rank after placements this season: Plat 4

My rank after placements this season: Plat 2

You can understand that, of course, since my friend didn’t play hero league, his MMR was probably low (didn’t really have one). Did the ranked system punish him for not having one?

Now for the beef.

We’ve been duo queuing for around 50 games. We have a win rate of about 35% when we play together. My friends MMR is probably still in master tier, but his rank is close to Gold. Therefore, he looks like a smurf, but he’s not. Quite frequently, we have been matched against a team of almost full golds (gold 1 or 2), while our team is full plat and we end up getting stomped by coordinated play. At the end of the game, the other team is favored to win by outrageous amounts. Last night we had opponents favored by +15 and +19 (back to back), only they were of lower rank.

My conclusion is that ranked is unplayable. How can a team with lower rank be favored to win? The answer: hidden MMR.

The only solution I can come up with to fix the problem is to remove the ranked system from the game and only have MMR. This is kind of demoralizing to lose to lesser ranks only to see at the end of the game that they were favored by +19 leading us to believe their MMRs are much higher.

It’s also demoralizing that my friend received a lower rank than me and he was master in team league last season. The only reason I can see that he got lower rank was because he didn’t play hero league due to the league merger. That is rubbish. For the sake of argument, it’s also demoralizing to him to see a player like me getting a higher rank than he/she has ever had before, while having a Gold MMR.

It is for two friends that want to queue together and now cant for fear of being handed loss after loss due to the MMR/Rank imbalance.

Oh please, i know what is to lost a lot, but i just keep improving my game and my communication to become a better player instead of coming to the forums and make a rant (Yes, i made rant post before but i’m now a better person).

Im so glad for you! And just like you, when i play alone i do much better than when playing with my friend. However, id like to play with my friend. And i cant unless we want to lose. Who actually wants to lose? Its not losing that is creating this demoralizing feeling; its the overwhelming losses. Imagine if 4 out of 6 games were five man coordinated comps that roflstomp you and when you get out of games you see the opponents were favored +15 or +19 while, in the loading screen, we see that they are actually of lower rank…it just gets to you after around 50 games.

It is unplayable if you believe it is unplayable; it is playable if you believe it is playable.
Some people do not realize that everyone has a inferior reality stone in our mind :grin:

You are placed at the highest level between your HL and TL level. So you didn’t get penalized for that. Though one of you may have been affected by rank decay.

My advice is to find more players to add to your team. The more players you have in your team and in voice chat, the less your games will have variance.

This is not a problem with ranked but a problem with you and your friend not being good enough to compete at your current ranks. MMR was reset so your friend doesnt have a high mmr. He have a plat mmr now. If he is a lot better than that and deserved his mmr from last season, he would easily climb. Since he isnt, it could appear that your friend was over-ranked previous season like half the playerbase and is now struggling in the lower ranks. :slight_smile:

Versus AI is close to unplayable, too. It’s the reality of HoTS in 2019.

Reality is you don’t win against plat players even though both of you are grouped together.
I mean losing some is a thing but 35%wr is excessive.
I wouldn’t want to say “eloboosted TL abuser” but it is hard to think that the system alone is responsible for such a result.

It’s the complete other way round lol, if anything it’s this exact notion of MMR directing matchmaker that killed the game in the first place…

Won’t go again into all of it, but yes, there is some reasoning you should be aware of, rest assured = proposing the very same thing that screwed-up/destroyed the game in the first place is hardly solution lol, just shows you not understanding in-what-ways/how HotS differs from other MOBA games out there tbh (which can’t say doesn’t happen a lot :stuck_out_tongue:)
