Ranked Placement

Can someone please explain how placement works? I won 8/10 and didn’t even move up one rank. I would have moved up farther if I stayed with my old rank and just won 8/10…

You know how there are different sized ladders at Home Depot, and you returned the one you bought so you could get another size? Well, you just checked out with the same size ladder again.

It bases it off previous seasons.

A lot of people don’t understand that placements are no different from just a regular ranked game.

Placements aren’t everything if you are good and want to climb rank you will do so no problem.

Then explain me if I had 70% win rate in the last season with huge positive PRA and then I won 8/10 games why did I end up exactly when I finished the last season? If those games would have been regular ranked games I would have climbed 1.5 division.
The best thing that I can see players climbing with 4W-6L when I lost rank with 6W-4L in s3.

How many games did you play last season in HL?

~50

I see you dont use hotslogs.

20 games on win probably dont effect the MMR that much, placemebts reset your rank to your MMR or atleast closer to it.

I have placed the to my last seasons rank or 1 tier lower last 2 seasons atleast with 55% winrates and more games.

Edit: i wouldnt trust 50 games to tell much about player skill tbh, dont think the system does either unless its a new player seeding and it goes full reeeeee

Not how. That’s why all angry on dev’s team.

You don’t get what is the problem. Some players climb with neutral or even negative placements while others lose or don’t move with positive games. Those who climb don’t do else than playing 10 games/season and climb from gold to high dia/master with ~40% win rates.

Never seen this, i check everyones profile before the game with the amount of games and ranks of previous seasons.

Exactly, however placement games operate they do not work like regular games do. This season I’ve seen people on negative win rates for the previous season go 3w/7L and climb after placements.

I’ve also seen people with positive win-rates for last season drop in rank when they went 8W/2L, so I can’t explain it. Most of these people played hundreds of games last season, so you would think their MMR would be of high certainty.
