Just so I’m not treading in the wrong mine field, I don’t main Nova nor do I really play QM much. (Yea, I fight AIs. Bite me) So, try not to get upset at what I say.
So, like most people, I assume, I tend to stick with the same Talent Builds, maybe swapping between one or another every so often.
But there’s one character who I feel torn to when I pick her Talent.
That being one of her Level 7 Talents: Anit-Armour Shells.
For clarification: The talent changes her Basic attack to deal 250% more damage and reduces the target’s armour by 10 for 3 seconds. At the cost of a Slower attack speed than either Hanzo or Leoric.
My questions are:
- Is there any Viability in this Talent choice?
- Does anyone other than me use it?
And 3. Should I not be using it in the first place?
I know Perfect Shot is objectively better and I can see uses in One in the Chamber, but what about the 3rd one?
I personally like it for a more Roaming/Team Support Nova playstyle with the move speed at level 1. Especially with the up close characters and Pinning Shot’s slow. I know the attack speed drop is horrible but by the time you’ve moved on, it’s back.
I know Valeera is better at this, as well as others who can lower armour without downsides, but I still like the 6.5 base attack range to go along with it.
Might just be me however. But enough, it’s just those 3 questions.

the difference between snipe talent and anti armor shells is that with snipe you have some issues while having another hero or creep covering your target and with the anti armor you dont, so you can deal high damage without relying in your mouse and obstacles or do extremely high damage without a 100% confidence of hitting.
In my opinion you should read talent details carefully and try it by yourself, in many cases you will realize something most people dont.
Maybe when you’re fighting AI that stand there and let you repeatedly shoot them…
Anti-Armor is good because it provide reliable burst, and can support another auto-attack hero.
One In The Chamber has higher dps, but requires you to sit there repeatedly shooting and using abilities, which can be risky.
And Perfect Shot is inherently risky due to the possibility of opponents dodging or being behind something, but it can have the highest damage output if you land repeated hits constantly. Highest risk, highest reward.
Her talent tree is bad in my opinion though.

Yes. Although a good chunk of it’s Value is in your team having another strong AA hero, or being aware enough to focus their AA on the enemy you are targeting.
Personally I don’t often given snipe’s current state.
But it is the most picked talent on it’s tier, and is rocking the highest winrate. Per heroes profile in draft modes with Diamond+Master (per HeroesProfile uploads, not official rankings) in the last 4 major patches.
Is it working for you?
If yes—feel free to keep using it!
If no—well, if it isn’t working try something else!
If unsure—pay attention to it now!

Anti-Armor Shells is an amazing and very useful talent and worth picking. decreasing your atk speed but with the right build to fit with it makes it very scary. going that with W build where you’ll end up picking Crippling Shot at 16 which also decrease the target’s armor results in deleting squishy heroes from 1 combo mixing with anti armor. that’s a W Q / AA = dead and that’s any squishy btw.
me and me and me too! the best talent choice ever.
you should use it! as i said it’s an amazing talent with the right build which is W build. nothing feels better than deleting your target before it can even react which the other talents can’t do what anti armor do! i highly recommend using it with W build.

The best thing about picking up Anti-Armor Shells is that you get more time to move around before your Basic Attack comes off cooldown, all the while massively increasing your unavoidable burst and boosts the performance of your fellow aa heavy heroes.

If you show up in the right spot against a super squishy, they die. Your auto hits like truck. Pop pop, watching AI bots drop. I like AA shells because it gives a little more oomph to your burst. It’s less whittling and poke and more to the getting em bent over a barrel. If they try and run you drop Tac strike in front of them. Nowhere to go but into the grave. Respawn next round.
well it lowers their physical armor by 15 so you tell me.
i do somewhat frequently
use it when you shouldn’t go snipe build.

yup exactly that! i always pick that talent with W build you can even kill tanks like garrosh so easily nova “alone” takes half garrosh HP with that combo “nova alone” so imagine a squishy getting hit by her combo? that’s a RIP moment.
I wasn’t expecting positive comments about this seemingly wrong Talent choice.
I suppose it answers enough. Time to keep using it.
It technically turn your auto attacking into a way to poke, just slap em hard and leave and keep doing so again and again, Anti Armor Shell is actually fine and solid talent.
It’s pretty good against lone squishes and heavy frontline comps as far as I know.
I do, mostly in QM only. I usually go for the Snipe talent tho for the mana return.
Tho overshadowed by Perfect Shot, it’s an okay talent. It’s pretty much up to you. If it’s working for you, then go for it.
I have some experience with nova because i am a main nova lvl (60) and 95% of my games are one in the chamber and i find it to be good in the past it was better but it got nerfed it used to buff your aa damage after an ability by 70% but they nerfed it to 60% but its still good and i like it more then the other two lvl 7 talents.
I always like to take AA shells.
My nova build with it is the lvl 1 to increase pin shot slow to 55%.
Precision Strike at 10
Lvl 13 varies. They are all useful. But if you want another pin shot always ready, take the talent that gives you 2 charges.
Lvl 16 crippling shot
Level 20 can vary. Apollo suit is very underrated.
My attack pattern goes W+R+Q+Autoattack. The increased slow makes it really hard for them to escape your ult, and the reduced armor with everything combined does something around 3.3k damage at level 20.
How did I never think of that… Interesting.
I pass on AA Shells as I find I lose opportunities for damage more often than not, but that’s a personal thing more like than not.
I usually like Longshot at 1, so then I take One In The Chamber at 7. Your Pinning Shot now gives boosted range and damage on a basic. Where harassing and trading are concerned, you can do quite a lot with this setup, I think.
EDIT: Assassins, in fact specifically ranged stealth, are generally my weakest play. In fact, stealth in general is a mechanic I suck with. I’m a much better tank than a deeps. Just so you know.
nove a burst hero so most of the time you will want to pick your lvl 20 ult or pick re wind that is the reason that no one picks apollo suit
