I’m not big on the ranked gamemode, but I would still like some way of tracking my progress. It would be nice if QM had some sort of rank system.
The problem is, this would foster a competitive culture that wouldn’t be very fun. I only care about self improvement, but there are others who would be very invested in having bigger numbers than everyone else.
I have an idea that I thought was fun: make the scaling unique to every player.
To elaborate, supose we have two players: Sally and Charlie. These players have the exact same QM rank.
But the thing is, their numbers are different. When Sally looks at her rank it says she is 324. When Charlie looks at his rank, it says 10,034.
The numbers will still go up and down, but the basic end result is that players can’t compare their ranks since no one knows where they truly stand next to other players. The ranks are only there to help you figure out if you are getting better or worse.
Give every character you play a rank, and maybe have a different ranks for different times of the day since Charlie is going to play a lot better in the morning before work than after it when he’s burnt out and tired - he needs different rankings for different tiredness levels.
Just a thought I had. I welcome all criticism!

If you upload your games to Heroes Profile, it does show an MMR for any mode, including ARAM! If you are consistent with uploading, you can track changes in your personal MMR over time.
It will track that for individual heroes as well, which can be fun!

Yoooooo, that’s tight! I need to look into that. Thank you!

Yeah you sort of wonder what people’s MMR is when you get a match.
Way back in the day, you could generally assume that those you get matched with are sort of around your skill level unless there’s some weird grouping shenanigans going on. As a diamond/master player, I could spot the gold a mile away. And getting bronzes was an extreme rarity. Nowadays, because of the population, you really can be paired with just about anybody.
Because you’re allowed to play and practice with any hero, I think a QM number wouldn’t be that helpful. Hero specific MMR would allow you to gauge your improvement. Because just because you’re low skilling cruising through with Naz, doesn’t necessarily make you a good player, when you’re massively losing with any other hero.
The uncertainty is part of the fun of QM imho. The tryhards who are obsessed with drafting and playing like little robots don’t quite relate with the hilarity of a good QM clownshow.
I would also like this feature. Players should have a means to see their QM MMR displayed somewhere on their profile.
As QM isn’t a competitive mode and most of us are aware that the MM sometimes is forced to use MMR averaging to attempt to “balance” both teams to create fair matches, I’d prefer that the MMR stat be only visible to the account holder.
The reason I say this, is sometimes the MM has to match players who are hundreds or even up to 1k apart in MMR. Personally, in a casual mode, I wouldn’t want yet another statistic that players could use to blame others, or misinterpret and use as “evidence” of why they are “forced” to lose their matches.
Putting that aside, I do like your idea, as I’ve always wanted as much information as possible to be available to me on my profile, as I prefer not using third party sites like HP.

You already have a metric in game that gives you some feedback about how well you are playing in QM. Your Win Rate.
If it is above 50% you are doing well. If its below 50% you are doing poorly. The amount above or below 50% indicates the intensity of your performance over that of your peers.
You can look at your overall win rate, as well as the seasonal win rates in this way. This can even be seen on a per hero and per map basis.
You don’t really need any more than that.

Starcraft 2 which is the same engine as this game shows your numeric MMR in the loading screen.
Wouldn’t hurt to display that in QM for HotS as well.
What’s the harm? SL already displays ranks.

We can gather win rates from the profile, that is true.
However just like in SL, there is a huge difference between a Bronze 2 having 53% win ratio and a Master having 53% win ratio in their respective game mode. Maintaining positive win ratios at high ranks takes tremendous skill, whereas anyone can achieve them at the lowest ranks.
The only value it would provide is displaying the approximate skill level of teammates before the match begins like in SL, but beyond that it would just be a meaningless cosmetic, that I agree with.
It would pinpoint some matchmaking flaws (like a 1200 being paired with a 3000) but that could simply create toxicity instead of awareness.
(I also know there is an overlay plugin that takes data from heroesprofile and other sites to display their calculated MMR when you begin a QM game, but it’s not an official number)

Play SL. There are no ranks in QM. Match making has little to nothing to do with your standing in this regard in the quick match queue.
@AltRightFrog already explained this to you, MMR averaging means you might be matched with a player over or under 1k MMR compared to your own. So there are basically “hidden” ranks in QM.
Let me ask you this, would you mind if your profile displayed your QM MMR, but that information was not visible to anyone but you? This way, we can have our cake (information) and eat it too, and nobody could use your MMR stat to blame or shame, or otherwise be toxic.

Even if one does not upload, QM “rank” is usually Ranked Skill +1 (so of someone is on Diamond lvl their QM rank is often Masters. At least this was the case for a long time).

I really like the idea. But, there are one thing that may not fit: currently, your rank is a comparison with others. It is not a comparison with your self past. You would need to figure out something else than the current rank and it is where it is somehow difficult with the same difficulties to a potential “performance based” system.
