I find I really enioy matches with the slug.
Winning is a bit hit or miss, but it’s a chess match the whole time.
On the SG server, there tends to be not so many sustain heroes in queue. Many times I will be the only sustain in the game. Therefore when I go Medivh, I will always have a different experience.
Some matches I am the the finisher for the team. Take portal mastery at 1, and just hover. I stay in bird form at their back line until I can kill someone with Q, sheep the major threat and escape with E.
Some matches I have to be the sustained damage. Stand near the front line and spam Q. This is my least favourite role.
Some matches I am the support. I have to be on point with my portals and W, and make sure the enemy threats are in stasis at the most important time.
My favourite though, is when I all the major roles are covered. Then, I can just be the “excelsior bird,” do a little of everything and just manipulate the battle in my own way. There is no pressure to finish Master’s Touch, I don’t need to perfectly time every W, I just do me.
My absolute favourite part of Medivh at the moment is the level of mind games you can play on the enemy with Portal Mastery at 1.
If you follow them from camp to camp, drop a portal every time a merc is just about to die. Nobody is nearby to use the portal, but the enemy doesn’t know that. They scatter and maybe even drop cc at the portal the first time… second time they hold their attacks to burst the first guy through the portal… third time they sort of hold attacks, but still kill the camp.
That is when they are ready. I ping my team to call them over. The fourth portal they basically ignore - “this bird douche is just playing with us again…”
The boy who cried wolf, indeed. Excelsior.
I have done this strategy to win 3 games so far. So rewarding. It helps to have guardian of Trirsfail as well to buy a lot of time for the mind games.
