Quickmatch creates some very odd teams from time to time and it seems over-represented by Ranged Assassins. I think a relatively easy fix would be to have players select a hero from each class and then have the system build balanced squads from everyone’s selections. You could rank the picks so that people who get bad fits can have higher priority in their next game.
Anyone else have suggestions?
Go play Draft or find friends.
Ppl play QM so they can play the Hero they chosen, not the Heroes, Hero. QM for this reason, is the most popular PvP mode. Removing this key feature would hurt it, therefore it would hurt the game itself.
R.Assassins dominate because that’s what most ppl enjoy the most.
All you can do is either embrace the weird comps or do all you can to avoid them:
- play Tank
- play ranked
- form premades in either mode
It would probably help if the queue time was much longer for ranged assassins instead of putting them in a forced team comp as 4 of them.
Well, we already have that option in game by creating your favorite heroes list and select random heroes from your favorite list.
It’s not necessarily needed to pick all roles but you can add all role yourself to make MM create match easier, thus this won’t force anyone and it’s a win-win imo.

It also doesn’t help the game is structured in a way that encourages people to pick a Ranged Assassin in uncertain situations to maximize their individual impact (can wave clear, can do camps, can get kills alone - precisely why Rehgar became so popular as a healer even before the buff)
Compared to, say, blind picking a hero like Lt Morales when you don’t know who your allies are going to be or which heroes they are going to be playing (who in the worst case has close to zero individual impact with bad allies).
The system should IMO never give bonus exp for picking Ranged Assassin, a significant exp bonus for picking tank and a very large bonus for picking healer.
Becasue range heroes are the most popular casue of thier safe way of dealing dmg while melee heroes always gets shredded and are most likely to die first.
I had qm games that gave me full melee againts a team who had 3 range. And we lost it hard casue we had no chance to get near those 3. Its unfun and stupid way of making people quit the game.
Everyone else has suggestions. Welcome to the forums.
You know it does feel like something’s wrong when i’m queueing up as a tank/bruiser and I’m constantly getting teams with multiple tanks/bruisers on them. Like hello, we got diablo, tyrael, and hogger vs johanna, yrel, blaze while the typical experience of queueing as ranged assassin is 4 other ranged assassins? Either there’s hardly anyone queueing for QM or there’s some room for improvement there.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they had some mistakes or suboptimal design choices in their QM matchmaking algorithm. Remember, whenever you think that Blizzard is this infallible company that did everything that could possibly be done, just take a look at the AIs, which are worse than they used to be, despite Blizz releasing a spotlight about how some dev supposedly “improved” them.
Technically you are correct, but given the ways it tries to shuffle… when I had 1 warrior, 1 healer and 6 others, it would rotate them as 3. I very quickly got bored of said warrior and healer.
Global random hero was giving me one out of four matches as Varian as well. The 2nd most frequent was Medivh.
