Question about scrolling the map

I never really thought about it, but lately I find myself getting irritated with moving the map around by moving my mouse to the screen edges. So, my question is simple, is there a better way to scroll the map that is worth learning?

I figure if I can learn this, maybe it won’t be so bad playing hots in ultra wide either.

Thanks!

You can scroll by holding mouse wheel down and dragging. Im sure it can be rebound to.
Theres also arrow keys but im not sure how you’d rebind that to be comfortable.

Also use space bar more :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah I rebound that to one of my thumb buttons. My mouse wheel is clunky to push down.

I think you can also move it with arrow keys, but you can rebind them, I think.

I’m playing HotS (like almost every other game) with my Razer Tartarus v2. It has a thumb stick where the arrow keys are mapped on.

That… sounds awesome. I want one now

Just wish it wasn’t a razer product.

Look up for Logitech G13 (discontinued but still available, no new product announced at this time)
there are a couple of other manufacturers, just search for gaming keypad

Minimap. Starcraft habbit.

Spacebar to center on your hero.

I actually own one that isn’t a Razer.

That looks like less of a mouse and more a component from the T-1000.

Belkin is the actual inventor of the Nostromo. Razer has sold it as a licensed version before developing own hardware.
I’m using keypads for more than twenty years now starting with a Saitek product

It’s very comfortable to use since this kind of keypad is designed specially to be ergonomic.

Well as long as you’re not left handed and are used to move the mouse with your right hand.
I’ve never seen a version of a keypad for the right hand

Yes, there is.

  1. Mouse Wheel being held will pan the position of the cam while freezing the mouse last location (normally games would reset this attribute to the center of the screen).
  2. Press Space, center view on yourself, this is good for purposes when you want to glance at a location somewhere and want to go back to your hero really quickly.

It’s not actually a mouse.

But the T-1000 was the mimetic metal model. You’re thinking of the T-800. Also known as the Arnold model

The Azeron Cyborg has a left handed version you can pick when you order it.
(It has a ton of customizable options)

this looks very uncomfortable to use. Pressing keys by extending the fingers?

It’s the opposite actually. You activate the keys by moving your finger up or down, or pointing. Which means you never have to move your hand, ever. (Note that there are keys at the bottom, top, and middle, so you could just not map anything to those keys if you don’t want to)

Your fingers are always slighty bent when you use keys or even a mouse. All you do to hit those keys is straighten them (your fingers, not the keys), which is a natural movement. It’s just like changing your hand from a fist to an open hand. There’s no discomfort.

Also, because it has the thumb button on the side. Your thumb makes an up and down movement, instead of moving sideways, which is not a natural motion. Your body likes your fingers moving up and down, not so much sideways.

Ergonomics seem counterintuitive, because people are used to how non-ergonomic equipment looks, and anything that looks different seems weird to them (Not that the word weird means anything)

For example. This type of mouse:

Is better than that type of mouse:

In virtually every way. Your body likes your hand to be naturally straight. With your palms facing the opposite hand. I used to have tennis elbow, I work in an office. After changing my mouse to a vertical mouse. The pain went away and never came back. I don’t even need to alternate hands.

But most people will go. “OMG, this looks different from what I’m used to” and never actually try it. And we end up with the least efficient option being the most used option.

It’s the same with ergonomic keyboards or the keyboard Layout itself. The keys on a keyboard were ordered in the way because of mechanical type writers. The first versions had the keys in alphabetical order and tended to jam. So the keys got rearranged in a way that the least amount of key jamming occurred. And because letters occur different often in different languages, nearly ever language has its own keyboard Layout.

Nowadays with electronic keyboards it’s not necessary to arrange the keys the way they are but because many people are used to the Layout, nothing gets changed.
There have been different approaches to change the keyboard layout to a more logical way but they hadn’t much successful feedback from the users.

Yeah. But the Dvorac KB has been measured to increase efficiency by about 6-8% if I remember right. It was deemed to low to be worth the effort of making it mainstream. More comfortable to type with though. But again, people fear having to get used to something new.

I remember when I worked in a call centre for an internet company. A woman called because she was having trouble setting up her modem and wanted a tech to install it for her. But you could only get a tech if you asked for it when you ordered the service. If people chose to do it themselves, I couldn’t assign them a tech after the fact (never knew why)

So I told her that, and that I’d just walk her through it on the phone. But she said “No I can’t it’s too complicated. I’ll just cancel

So I said I’d have a box shipped to her to return the modem, but then she said. “Oh no it’s fine, I didn’t open the box

She hadn’t even tried… :frowning:

You’re probably right, the continuity of the series is so convoluted at this point, I have no idea what movies are even considered cannon and what aren’t. I am sure though that the majority of then after T2 were unnecessary and mostly junk.

It looks good, I was just being a goof, I’m all for ergonomic peripherals. I should invest in a gamer mouse, it probably makes life much easier. I still refuse to use those so called ergonomic keyboards that have the giant gap in the middle and the keys taper off on each side. I clearing don’t know what they are called, but I found them less ergonomic than a standard keyboard, at least as a touch typist.
