When you have heroes that you played A LOT, you’re very experienced with and all that, weren’t you supposed to be matched with people who know how to play the game and are experienced as well?
I thought this was the deal, you play a hero you almost never play/never played before, you get easier matches, you play a hero you are really good with, has a lot of levels and experience, you have tougher matches.
I’m asking cause whenever I queue with Genji, who is level 96 right now, I get matched with people who LITERALLY JUST STARTED PLAYING. Level 1, level 10, level 100. And before someone says they are smurfing, they are not, because you can’t see they never played the game before and they don’t know what to do, or how the game works, what is objectives, what their characters do etc. You can literally see that they are just starting to learn the game. But this sucks, since I can never queue with Genji in QM, ever. I went from positive winrate to almost 40% winrate because of this.
Genji is already in an EXTREMELY BAD SITUATION and needs MAJOR buffs to bring him close to 50% and being a playable character, and then you put people who never played the game before it just leads to loss after loss, especially when the enemy team gets all players who know how to play.
Can a dev please explain to me how does the matchmaking work when we queue with high level character? Please? Cause I’m literally about to never play Genji again if I’m just unable to get a fair match.
After you get level 5 on hero it’s considered fully mastered by Blizz. If hero is below level 5 you get slight MMR reduction so technically you get little bit easier games. Or at least that’s how it used to be.
Might just be a complete lack of suitable allies and opponents during the time you were queuing. If you get placed against and with lv 0-1 accounts, the search Expanded and was desperate to put you into any match at all.
Major issue with HotS at the moment, even though the game is by no means “dead” there are some serious population issues which make the game unenjoyable at high MMR’s
(people at extremely low MMR suffer the same issues as well - nobody to match them with, so they may be put into games with extremely high MMR people if nobody else is queuing).

On Hanamura Temple, the E.T.C. was a fresh smurf on their 4 stacks vs your solo queue team mates. That really didn’t help at all in the balanced match making. So, they gave you a potato Sylvanas to compensate.
The system doesn’t distinguish the difference between a fresh diamond smurf and a new player.
No one can do anything about it, sadly.
When I see Expanding Quick Match Search, I already know it’s going to be a bad game and I’m going to be put in a match with whatever random people are currently online.
All consideration to MMR, hero level and so on gets thrown out the window.
And my problem with that is, the search seems to expand within a couple seconds nowadays. When I joined HotS that used to only happen at 10 + minutes.
I’m queueing at peak hour on a Saturday and it was an instant queue
My queues are always really fast in QM and there are a lot of players queueing. Don’t think matching me with new players like that is a population problem tbh.
Not really a good thing if you are high MMR. Getting an instant queue at high MMR on a very high win rate hero is a bad thing. Means it gave you absolutely random teammates to reduce queue time.
A good way to check if that happened is by going over ally profiles after the game ended. If you get people with a level 1 hero or less than level 5 account, there was really no matchmaking going on at all.
So definitely a problem that needs fixing!
