Morning people ! ( or other appropriate greeting for your time zone lol )
I was looking to get some expertise advise on lunara Q build.
I had some games yesterday where i decided to go lunara howeve near the end of it i was blamed by the team abd apparebtly because of me we had " no damage " . i was a bit confused since i was second highest of the game second only to a stacked azmo ( 82k vs 72k ) .
I figured that people were just looking for a scapegoat and play some blame game because they were satly we were losing pretty hard .
However same thing happened the very next game with completely different players. Still a decent kill count and high consistent hero damage throughout the game.
Is there something im missing ?
Here is the build i tried both games .
1- hippity hop
4 - blossom swell
7 - choking pollen
10 - thornwood vine
13 - let them wither/ abolish magic ( this one is great vs butcher !)
16 - accelerated contamination
20 - forest wrath / galloping gait
Im no pro lunara so im wanted to get the oppinion of players who likely already thoughrely tested this build , why are certain players saying its a bad build ?

You should take Revealing Toxin at lvl 1 always, it’s a big damage increase because then people can’t duck into bushes or behind walls to avoid your auto attacks. I would also always take Nature’s Culling at 4, it just makes your lane clear amazing, lets you do camps in reasonable time, and also makes you really good at burning down buildings. Also at 10, Leaping Strike is almost always the superior choice, because it not only gives you lot of burst, but also very good escape, Thornwood Vine might pad your numbers on the score board, but it’s lot less impactful overall. Also you should always take the trait boosting talents at 16 and 20, Unfair Advantage and whatever the other one was called, especially with Let them Wither which has great synergy with Unfair Advantage.
For why the build you chose isn’t good is mainly because most of your damage comes from your trait, and you skipped all the talents the improve it. The only Q talent that is really worth taking is Choking Pollen, which is really nice burst damage, the rest of the Q talents however just don’t do enough and/or are against much better talents.

There’s the problem. Q build is for burst, so you’ll need to get leaping strike if you plan to go Q. Otherwise you’ll do damage but rarely be able to secure kills. Also I recommend going AA for 16 and 20 to have some consistent damage after doing your combo.
Basically the combo will be AA-W-Q-R-R, you’ll have to do it really fast so the ult hits before your Q cast time ends, that way you’ll get the bonus from choking pollen near instantly.
I recommend AA because Target will have 3 stacks after your combo and slow from your W which complements the AA talents at level 16 and 20.

Full Q build is just objectively bad because you have to give up the massive power spike you get with full AA build and giant slayer after 16.
It has a nonexistent pick rate for a reason. Lunara’s AA’s are fast and free, she has fast movement speed (and can’t be unmounted) while auto attacking, Q has a fairly long cooldown and is just a single ability.
Revealing Toxin is also vital to Lunara for the reasons listed by other posters above; you cannot go in the fog of war or in vents/bushes to escape her auto attacks when she has this talent = you cannot escape at all unless you have a big dash/teleport like Genji or Fenix.

I actually find it’s often better the other way around . For Q build Thornwood Vine usually seems more effective, for two reasons:
-Q build + Leap means you don’t have any way of poisoning multiple people, which really hinders Lunara’s main role. (Mass poison damage on as many targets as possible).
-Vine is really handy for quickly setting up poison stacks (and on multiple people) to get the (maximum) bonus damage from Q build. Post-20 R->W->Q is a nice AoE nuke that doesn’t even require aa range.
The idea is to just spread poison as normal, then use Q as a finisher once people are low, without the danger of Leaping into the enemy team.
That said, I usually only take Q at 7, sometimes at 4 if enemies are dodgy enough. The cd reduction at 16 is cute, but it’s simply not worth it compared to the alternatives.

Q build has some perks in that you completely outrange characters like raynor and it’s a skill shot that is often unnoticed by the enemy. At level 16 you can consistently chunk people for 800+ damage every 4.5 seconds.
So it really depends on who you’re playing with/against. Standard lunara is better for ganks but q build has its place for dueling and large teamfights where you can consistently land your q (especially vs slow characters like butcher or mages).

This is sad. For a second I thought we had an interesting Lunara thread going, and then I saw one of our favourite Chromie avatar’s in GeorgeV, then I sighed.
Hopes, dashed!

The Beginn of the Thread is so old, the talents don’t even exist in this form anymore.
Here is my go to:
On level 1: Sentinel wisp always.
On level 4: Blossom swell when you go Q build. Nature’s culling if you need more wave clearing.
On level 7: Splintered Spear for quicker wave clearing, Choking Pollen for better team fight capability, Wild Vigor for faster camp clearing.
On level 10: depending on the map, your own team abilities and the composition of the opponent. Thornwood vine is an excellent Ult dealing DoT on a long range. It’s imo the better team fight Ult, since you can apply pressure from the safety of your backline and not risking to position yourself poorly. It’s the better Ult to apply nature’s toxin. Leaping Strike is more fun, but more difficult to execute safely. If your opponent has good CC (Malfurion, Blaze, Uther, Muradin and other point and click stun) you’re dead every single time you use your Ult. So never ever pick this Ult against CC heavy Opponents! It has its use of your own team is lacking CC but it’s only a soft CC as it only slows your opponents.
On level 13: Endless Spores your team fight talent on this tier, Let them wither is situational and should only taken into consideration when your team is lacking CC. Greater Spell Shield a must pick in combination with Leaping Strike. It gives you the chance of better survivability when you are in the midst of the opponent team and wait for the short cool-down for the second leap into safety. Abolish Magic is somewhat of a hidden gem in her talent tree. It is a terrific talent when your own team lacks cleanse and you have to fight CC heavy opponents. Lunara is becoming suddenly a viable support hero your team.
On level 16: I’ve actually never tried out Accelerated Contamination, so I can’t say much about this talent. Star Wood Spear is increasing your basic attack range, which gets significant in combination with crippling spores. It is your go to talent in combination with Thornwood Vine. Invigorating Spores is excellent against enemies with high HP (Stitches, Diablo, Cho’Gall, DW etc.). Unfair Advantage comes to use when your team has lots of CC
On level 20: Forrest’s Wrath See your enemies melt away after picking the Ult-Upgrade. Lunara becomes a Poke champion on par with Chromie. Boundless Stride a must pick imo for Leaping Strike build. It lets you target your own team mates as target and increases your chance of survival significantly. Intensifiying Toxin is a classical ARAM Talent. Galopping Gait is very situational and should only get considered on huge maps and when your Team lacks Globals. Otherwise choose the Ult-Upgrade.

Ye may take it if :
- Not have a mage, or with a burst mage in a team.
- Against an enemy’s single target healer. Lili, Tyrand, Uther, Morales for example.
And of course, no jump ult.
But still, AA build with the shattered spear doth the same, the cause is poison.
Good post but I wanna mention that Q build focus is on Choking Pollen.
The build doesn’t require to go all Q talents, it will still be viable because it supplements with Lunara exactly what she’s trying to go for: Burst.
Also Level 4 should prioritize Siphoning Toxin, imo very slept upon, because it does a lot of things that people don’t realize, first of all, it provides a decent heal over time that while is weak, its nothing to scope upon, especially when rotating lanes by yourself, sure you are slower in soaking but it doesn’t matter post level 7, by that time you do so much burst damage from Q it deletes the necessary minions you need to remove, leaving the front.
Nature’s Culling is super strong don’t get me wrong but I’d prioritize it in games where you need the clearing damage, like Braxis Holdout, BoE and Infernal Shrines.
IMO, this build is also really good:
1: Wisp Upgrade
4: Siphoning Toxin | Nature’s Culling
7: Choking Pollen
10: Flex and depends on what you face, don’t go leaping strike if you are going to die in 1 second, and don’t go thornwood vine if you need the escape against anti dive.
13: Flex, Let them wither but unlikely to happen cuz you will face a mage most of the time, in that case go Great Spell Shield, else if you know how to use cleanse then Abolish Magic is single handedly OP as hell.
16: Range increase | % damage | CDR on Q is a meme IMO
20: Galloping Gate does so much and more than the other talents, you can kite a huge amount of damage, escape easily, and tunnel vision on a priority target that has been pestering the entire team right as you escape from their grasp… again.

I’ve played with siphoning toxin for the longest time in QM, but IMHO are the other two talents in comparison the better option.
Lunara has a healthy talent tree with only few talents that are meh but no bad talents over all
