Probius - what do I need to know?

Started to play him and he’s useful and fun in same time. So - title.

Don’t feel bad if you suck at him at first. He’s a hero that is VERY different, and takes a fair amount of time to master. However, once you do, he’s quite the persistent little bugger.

I guess the things that helped me the most were:

  1. I’m a super aggressive player no matter what hero I play. You can be aggressive with Probius, but you are too dependent on your pylons to let them be destroyed too quickly. Be conservative with your pylons placements. Probius is about setting a foothold, and inching your way in. His aggression is more so in his relentlessness than instant damage.

  2. He is one of the few heroes that can push like CRAZY. So, if left alone, he actually can do significant damage. However, you should always tell your teammates if you plan to do so. And if someone comes, don’t be afraid to Z away to help your team.

  3. You have to be proactive with your Z. Use it before you get hit.

  4. Get the timing for your warp rifts and detonate. It’s like a metronome. Once you get the rhythm, he can feel downright oppressive and you will be able to clear waves and buildings super efficiently. Do not be one of those 1.5 tower specialists. A good Probius can destroy both AND a keep quickly.

  5. When laning, don’t worry so much about killing heroes. Clear the waves first, then your photon will do most of the damage. On that, some matchups you will just suck at (I hate Sylv). Feel free to call for help, or ask to rotate with an ally. Also, he doesn’t necessarily need to solo lane, although he is amazing at it against some heroes, he’s also great in a group with sustain. Some comps just won’t be able to deal with you because you just keep putting out damage.

You need to know that every ranked game, someone will be unhappy with your pick and you will be the first to get blamed when your team starts losing

Dr. Logan is a Tassadar main, so he probably doesn’t need that advice.

You probably (probiusly haha) know about the skill effects, advantages and disadvantages. My best advice what i can give you is the distance what you keep from the enemy. Your Z mount helps a lot if you have some issues. You must to being in the backlane, in the teamfight normally you have one move, then you reatreat until your enemy team not a potato.
The aim is keeping the distance, so first of all if you put one W skill on the land, you will not go closer to the W skill or to the enemy, you have to go back and put one other “W skill” or 2 other “W skill” close to the first one.
Good luck

My bad day became the best one because of your post, Minky.

HotS showed me that people don’t like Unusual heroes like Tass.
Thank you all :hugs: for your answers.

Well as someone who played a lot of probius, here are some random tips:

  1. Probius wrecks braxis. That vent between the lane and the beacon, you can hit so many heroes with your explosion there it’s not even funny. He is very strong on tomb of the spider queens too, keep rotating between lanes and hitting heroes with warp rift explosions while hiding in the vents.

  2. If you place your warp rift in a vent or brush, even if part of it is outside the vent or brush, so long as the circle is inside, enemy heroes can’t see it from outside (which allows you to set up a lot of surprise multi-explosions when heroes step in).

  3. I find his strongest build is the wrap rift build. So he’d be played like a mage. Cannon build is okay I guess but very unreliable.

  4. He has very bad level 20 talents

  5. Probius is not as weak to divers as people think. Bait them in, turn on pylon overcharge, hit them with a warp rift explosion and suddenly they’re the ones getting killed.

  6. If you want more tips you can look for a grandmaster probius spammer called glogan.

That’s all I can think of for now

the only thing I know about Probius is…

He is extremely underestimated in Dia+

Master it… and you got yourself a free pass to heaven

Do not underestimate the Probe, he may look under-performing and weak on paper but he can be the center of the team as he feasts on the tears of the enemy, especially in team fights when played right, he can solo camps alone and has a massive wave clear power on his disposal, his weaknesses are very clear which are focus his pylons and his power will start to fade away unless he summons another pylon and continues the killing.

While on paper the gate heroic is overshadowed by the pylon overcharge heroic, it can still be a useful zoning tool 90% slower movement speed can set up for warp bombing and/or finishing off anyone who’s trying to escape from our god Probius’s grasps.

Always keep a pylon ready to warp in.
If both pylons are on cd and destroyed , you wont be able to do much for a while.

Volun is one of the worst Probius’ i have ever had the displeasure of playing with. If you want to learn how to mindlessly bulldoze down one lane, this is your guy to learn from though.

he is underestimated all around because so few ppl play him. its just that he is so niche that its better to pick up gazlowe. since gazlowe has an easier time with setup, mercs, and general team support then it puts probius in that position of being a pick that happens only on extremely rare circumstances.

i think probius just needs some talent changes tbh.
