“NavyOgre”, “GoldEagle”, “PlumYeti”, “ZanyDruid”, just a few “players” I’ve encountered playing Versus AI. All behave the same, attack suicidally with no self-preservation, and all with unnatural movements no human player would make. No skins, no mounts, no profile pictures. Am I the only one encountering this? Me and my friend find them every other match nowadays.
Why would someone bot in a mode with no rating, ranking, or stakes? Occam’s razor says it’s way more likely to be new players.
From what I remember players can’t be banned or punished in this mode when reported.
So I would assume this is the safest place for gold farmers to set and forget their bots.
But they could just play 3 ai games a day and theyd get their gold. Ai games are less than 15 minutes. Is 30-45 minutes really worth the hustle? I guess for some people it is.
To level up your account.
ah yes that’s the low end bot or trolls
I now experience higher leveled people who occasionally wears a skin. the walk into the range of the enemy cannons and never select any talents and AA the minions ignoring the enemy heroes
and once more they’re all russian, or have russian names. I’m not joking.
they occasionally group up and make the game completely unwinnable for example a lucio and blaze were doing this and as an abathur there wasn’t much I could do while I watch my other two allies run around like headless chickens
For what? Account level doesn’t do anything.
It gives loot boxes ?
It also farms gold for newly created accounts.
I have noticed them in games since coming back. Usually they just go down middle lane to suicide against defenses (except Medivh bots which will just fly back and forth in bird form). More often than not they also have experience boosts too which is…okay I guess.
Gold and loot boxes are about the only thing I can think of that would be the point. Getting them in the lower levels prior to level 10 requires very few matches, especially if the games take anywhere from 10-15 minutes with an experience boost. Depending on the map as well and if it is a game of the day.
Though if they were hurting for levels they would just go with A.I teammates and have it set to recruit and just roll with it. Win or lose they would get a good chunk of experience. Or just play the game to get less experience per match but able to do more matches.
If they level up the characters fast enough yeah, but being they make games a 4 vs 5 it makes the games longer which I personally do not mind as I am an experience snob that prefers getting a ton of experience as opposed to doing dozens of matches sub 5-7 minutes.
It can get you into ranked, to sell those accounts, or for YouTubers to have a back up account.
This seems like a ridiculous way to play this game, but I dunno, ask those bots.
Longer games = more exp, which = more loot boxes.
For some reason people still put value to account level.
There is value in your account level if you’re new/smurf. Aside from loot chest each level, every 25 account levels you receive 150 free gems. The more chests, gems and gold you can make means you can buy the mega hero bundles, buy heroes with gold and sometimes be lucky with hero and boost drops in boxes.
If you’re a veteran player, you might be like Phaseshifter who has 150 unopened chests, as they own all the heroes and cosmetics they want. For new players and those making smurf accounts, there is value in bosoting your account level as fast as possible.
I don’t think there is a market for HotS accounts anymore in 2023.
Maybe for rank boosts for those really desperate kids, but accounts… I just have a hard time believing it, when many regions don’t even have enough population for fast matchmaking anymore.
Maybe, just maybe, someone could be botting to get free loot chests for themselves. But that’s about it.
Making a bot also takes considerable effort, as well as rudimentary intelligence to avoid the Warden anticheat system which detects things like automated movement patterns.
For someone to spend hundreds of hours coding this thing… I just have a hard time believing it.
If I had to bet my own money on it, I would say 499 times out of 500 it is just a new player or a bad player, not a bot, whenever someone gets accused of being a bot.
Hell, I have played duo and trio with friends in AI and ARAM in 2018-2020 (who were physically next to me) who recently started HotS, were called bots by teammates.
The borders get prettier the more levels you have.
Been seeing this a lot recently. Player base is now so small that you can run into adept players when queuing for Elite. In adept mode there are often these bot players playing. They constantly attack move suicide against the enemy core, even in Towers of Doom where the core barrier melts them. They also often work in pairs, so you can end up being 3 humans vs 3 elite, 2 adept and 2 feeders making it near impossible to win with some hero choices.
Best you can do is report them. Hopefully after enough reports for feeding they will be banned.
Why are people botting in versus AI? My guess is to sell accounts with some amount of progress already obtained. Gems and gold can be obtained, which give this bot account some value for sale by dubious dealers.
You’re probably right about the market for selling accounts, but I have run into this within the last year. So why? I don’t get it.
The other point was just getting into ranked, people have like a hundred games on their account and play bad, and if the sounds like speculation, some will just say, “I’m trolling, do what I say or I’ll throw”
I understand its 2023 with this game, and honestly I’m still having fun with it, but I just wanted to say I’m pretty sure bots are still out there.
What you say is true, but I see account level like points in 2D fighting games.
How could I have missed such a trivial feature…
But number go higher good
The vast majority of low level accounts that I encounter in ARAM are not new players, but smurfs. From my B-Tag thread, you can see many of these accounts are made to deliberately troll games.
I’m glad I can’t really understand the psychology of those who make a Hots account with the sole intention of being disruptive and antisocial. Recently I played with someone in ARAM with a B-Tag like “Banned15times” and all they did in the match was type racist nonsense, AFK, spam ping, when not deliberately dying to enemy towers.
I think the above-mentioned “type” of players are very reminiscent to those who post here stating they are “quitting Hots”, or here to “fight Blizzard”, or just to say variations on “Hots dead, and it sucks”, yet they never actually uninstall, but return on the regular to complain that they were unfairly banned.
As I’ve said before, General Chat and these forums don’t need Mod’s, but rather a psychiatrist to help these players learn how to gracefully move on.
I think you’re still playing Cookie Clicker too much.
I agree. Even I’m inclined to think they have a real psychological problem and need professional help.
