If I remember correctly it was removed for reasons that are no irreverent since the announcements made during the last Blizzcon?
No point in further limiting the map selected and I have a strong feeling that the devs totally forgot about this map anyway.

As far as I know it has to do with being buggy in some situations with its 2 floor mechanic hence why its removal.
They have no plans to bring it back last time a question about it was asked.
That is rather unfortunate, I mean the map worked fine for me… It did take a little more effort to use heroes like vikings but that is a minor annoyance compared to a complete loss of a map, Its not like we have a lot of maps to begin with (need more with truly unique mechanics)…
It was due to it being a balance nightmare and it’s been up in the air ever since.
The main issue they are having trouble balancing is the actual mines aspect of it where players are forced to go into it to complete its objective.

Someone had a good suggestion of how to deal with that on the forums. When the Golem quest starts all camps disappear until the collecting phase is over.
Without testing who knows if that’s the solution, but it would make fighting for the objective more of a priority.
I agree, we have Warhead Junction in the map pool, which to me is just as problematic as Haunted Mines.

It would be a decent suggestion to let the camps disappear until all skulls have been gathered from the mines. Or another thing could be to let the neutral monsters inside the mine reward xp so people have more of a justification for going inside mines rather than just focusing on pushing alone. The map itself is great fun it is a shame they resorted to removing it for an uncertain ammount of time.

The fact that both Snorefest Junction and Whyumara are still active, there really is no reason to keep Haunted Mines banned.
My favorite map is gone, my favorite hero is being reworked out of her identity.
Bring both of their former glory back!
That is actually a pretty nice point. And since the competitive scene is a joke now, I see few drawbacks to bringing the map back as it was or with the minor suggested changes. it should be easy/light work for the HOTS team.
People probably also think the developers forgot about Chromie and Varian still being removed from Brawl.
When I linked a topic about it to one of them, well, they said they’d had some discussion and would send that/the public feedback up to more devs.
So I doubt they’ve forgotten about it.
I would much enjoy seeing it back in QM. Keep it away from ranked at all costs thou!
that’s a good idea–I will suggest a tweak right now though:
-instead buff camps hp and damage by 100% when the objective is “warned” about and while the objective is active.
-the camps DO NOT retain the buff after being captured.
“warned about” refers to the 30 second timer that typically happens before an objective will occur.
This would allow a team that has got some of the objective but is down and cannot contest the “boss” golem to “gain value” by taking a camp or two, but make taking camps take longer and be harder for heroes to solo.
