Either comps happen somewhat frequently in QM, and from your experience, which one would you rather take, and why?
I think I’ll settle with no tank comp, because at least bruisers and melee assassins can provide a bit of front line presence. But with no healers, some heroes really struggle to remain in teamfights for long.
But based off my past experiences in QM, I’ll say no-tank comp. A no-healer comp just doesn’t feel good. Especially if they have a lot of burst heroes. I feel much safer with a tank
Not that simple.
Rehgar without a tank? Utter bollocks. Like literally, you have one ability.
Li Li without a tank? Hahahahahahahahahahahahhaaaaaaa!
Li Li against Tassadar? Hahahahahahahahahahahahhaaaaaaa! x2
Anub without a healer? Okay I guess. Even won SL, although the enemy had a healer, so they didn’t have excess burst.
Varian without a healer? Okay, GG. Next, please.
I mostly play tanks/bruisers, so I guess it would go without saying that I prefer no healer.
Personally, I like no healer matches as a tank, as it is a great test of my skill, and I learn far more about CD usage, scouting, positioning, and just how much abuse various tanks can take when I don’t have a healer covering up my mistakes. I learn just how aggressive I can be, and just how much I can punish an enemy tank who also lacks a healer. It forces me to be more creative with talent choices and strategies for engagement.
Many of these lessons carry over well to matches with more “standard” comps, so yeah, no healer for me!
Blizzard first implemented the healer matching before tanks because it had a clear advantage. But that might be less pronounced now with the tank reclassification and all the stupid amount of baseline self healing they added in the game.
No healer really requires playing on the razor’s edge. Because unless you get that burst down, it’s just a matter of losing momentum if the opposing healer is even semi competent. It’s still possible, as I’ve won those games, but since I usually play healer, they’re rare for me. When they happen it’s usually because someone else switched out healer when they said they would, or I was afk during the draft and my pick got banned.
No healer games can be annoying though if your allies play as if a tank is going to magically appear. Some people’s brains break when they get attacked and are so averse to it they end up playing way too conservatively. They don’t realize that everyone can take a few hits, that they themselves have tools, and their allies can help. One of my favorite PVE encounters in WOW was the no aggro fight in Magister’s Terrace because it really displayed a sense of teamwork, that everyone has a responsibility to take some of the damage and help each other live. The fights become so much more dynamic.
meta wise double supports or double bruisers with no tank are quite normal currently. Most tanks are underperforming in comparison. Hence no tank would be easy choice.
I enjoy no healer comps because I play heroes and pick talents that heal myself. I kinda wish healers weren’t a thing and each hero had a self healing mechanism instead. Would make balance and matchmaking so much easier!
It really does depend on comps. A super divey no-healer combo against a super squishy no-tank combo can destroy a healer instantly and then it hardly matters anymore. Whereas a healer comp with a lot of poke against a tank comp with no dive is going to have a pretty easy time of it.
