Permanent punishments for ranked griefers

This game does not have sufficiently severe punishments for people who ruin ranked games. The CSGO community and system has this fixed, why will mobas not introduce a similar concept of community review and then permanent or season-long ranked bans…?

Someone can literally type (like in a game I’ve just had), “I’m going to afk and grief” and then proceed to do that and ruin the game. Only PERMANENT account-wide sanctions serve as a sufficient deterrent.

Deducting league points just creates Elo hell.

I like the idea and suggested it years ago to an overwhelming number of “boos”.

If this were implemented I’m not sure I’m a fan of going straight to permanent bans.
Even though in ANZ we deal with some of the worst you’ll ever see, While yes, some deserve but others might be falsely accused (or falsely judged) or even after a brief reprimand might change their ways and we get to keep them (in turn keeping player numbers).

In saying that, we can’t even get reduced rating lose when we have an AFK so I doubt we would get something like this (even when it still had devs)

When accounts are free to make then there are no punishment that will be good enough.

Accounts need to cost money to create before it starts hurting the trolls.

There are two problems:

  • Cause and effect.
At least in my case, in the past I ended up disappointed with something. Usually problematic teammates, losing 5-10 games in a row due to leavers and feeders used to be normal (now, thanks to my Platinum rating floor in QM, I have no such issues, haven’t seen a troll for over a year). I rationalized that in order to restore my ability to control, as well as to punish the system, I have to lose rank. (Eventually I succumbed to the math that my input on match result is 0.01% hence I should just play.)
  • Observation mistake.
If you would look at my recent matches, you would simply ban me for being a feeder. The mistake is, I try to make plays with Artanis. I can very well turn the 1:4 score I have thus far, as long as I get different teams. (My MMR won’t drop, it can’t. So my maximum win rate potential is 46% and it will go further down as I ascend to diamond.)

So, I don’t know what to suggest, except maybe stop ranked. Assuming OP is serious. Also, make sure to reach account level 1000+ and other inflatable stats as quick as possible.

To be fair I can’t tell whether I’m the advocate of a flat earth or everyone else, but this is my experience at least.

Agree there needs to be a barrier - other F2P mobas will have a level or character unlock restriction before you can play ranked.

In Heroes you need to reach account level 50.
It’s really not much different from what I’ve seen in DotA 2.
Meaning 49 level ups from 12 heroes taken to 5, or 10 to 6, something like that.
Professional smurfs will make good use of the two week welcome boost, though.

I think you also need 14 heroes unlocked, which is mostly a technical safeguard to ensure that as last pick, you still have something available. Not much of a requirement if the free rotation counts.

Karabars brought up AFK loss forgiveness in another thread, I had forgotten it was a feature the Dev’s had said was “coming soon” to ranked. That wouldn’t have helped other modes, but I would have welcomed its addition to ranked play.

ANZ’s worst troll fortunately quit during covid. That sick person bought dozens if not hundreds of dia+ and master accounts and ran them all down to bronze by intentionally running into gates and keeps.

Yeah, they promised it… 9 years ago. Then nothing came out of it. Such a shame, because it would have drastically increased the sense of fairness in SL. Even if it was just a small point rebate for the teammates having an AFK, which would be paid by that AFK (making it a zero sum game that can’t be cheated).

That “red” troll was so famous, I first learned about him on the old forums, before my ANZ friends told me about him. It’s relief to know they are finally gone from Hots, but sadly, the damage was already well and truly done to the ANZ server.

i play the game exclusively from Sydney since 2017.
Easily 50% of my friend list QUIT PLAYING because of that troll. from the already small bases of australia and new zealand.

Redrum, lavacake, redgod and how many other ‘mains’ he had beside illegitimately doing the same crap on grand master accounts again when he got banned.
when hotslogs existed you could search all his accounts and they had 0,09 kda and 10% win ratio because he kept intentionally losing and dying or just sitting in spawn doing nothing.

this troll even kept bragging about feeding in general chat and said he doesn’t care about getting banned because he will come back in ten minutes

blizz should have sued that person for disruption of service, because they likely lost thousands of dollars in skin, mount, hero revenue from people quitting due to that 1 troll

We didn’t see that account for a while before covid. Rumours were a IP ban but we have a new troll that is very similar and makes you wonder if they have returned but some have suspected a different person that got both main accounts banned.

On a positive the ANZ scene is back a bit with a TTV/ReviveHots playing from 8pm AEST until about midnight with 2 or 3 SL games running at the same times (though be aware of said troll and smurfs)

I think Hots will keep on being as it is now for a long time. No new heroes/maps or changes that many seek.

The MS takeover wont change anything to this game as many hoped it would. Mostly now when Activision have been taken over by a woman from Call of Duty.

Not a fan of permanent punishments on players… Just let the punishment be a SL lock out with increasing lengths. But never a ban.
The SL lockout should be in such a way:
3days - 1 week - 1 month - 3 months - 6 months- 1 year.
Just lock them out of SL.
Banning wont work cuz they will make new acc and do it again.

This way they can play but will face the consequences of not being able to play in ranked.

Cringe, wasting hours of your life every day doing nothing is pretty psychotic.

It gets worse than psychotic because that same person was spending big cash on buying super high ranked accounts to also troll games where you’re supposed to be free of these griefers since none of them are good enough at HotS to get that high.

You would see such accounts on eBay or other platforms upwards of 300 to 500 US dollars back then.
Seeing how many accounts this guy had, it had to be $10,000+ just to buy all those accounts.

I place at least some blame on these sellers, who quit HotS and couldn’t care less what kind of sad creature snapped up the account to ruin high level games as well as low level ones.

A griefer who runs against the enemy gate 20 mins all game can do huge disruptions to a small ladder, when they start at low GM and go all the way to B5.
