All this snow mean Mei will be next character has me thinking which Overwatch characters I would like to see in Heroes. The play 2 games as Overwatch character is my least favorite daily quest. Overwatch has by far the smallest character selection from a universe. (Except Nexus but there is no play games as a Nexus character quest.)
Mei - Tank (Partially to distinguish her from ice mage assassin Jaina. Partially because we need more tanks.)
Rein - Tank
Orissa _ Tank
Moira - Healer
Soldier 76 - Healer (Focus his build around his healing device.)
Um, no. Not even a little bit. Overwatch has plenty of healers to choose from. You don’t need to meatgrinder one out of the guy literally named Soldier.
It’s not that Overwatch doesn’t have other healers. Its just this game doesn’t need more assassins. It does need more tanks/bruisers/healers. Reaper would be an assassin because he just wouldn’t be Reaper if he wasn’t. Soldiers healing ability gives him a chance to be something other than another assassin though.
The game always needs more assassins. Assassin is the most versatile role you can design for. There are a million ways to kill another player, and HotS doesn’t have anywhere close to all of them. There are only so many ways you can heal or prevent damage before it becomes samey or you run into issues with power creep.
Not to mention that most games will have up to six assassins in them and only two healers and two tanks, meaning there’s a practical reason to make more. Also, most people like playing damage. It sells better.
No, because it’s a complete betrayal of his character. If you want a combat healer from Overwatch, add Baptiste. If you don’t think another assassin needs to be added, then don’t suggest Soldier.
The difference between the two is mei’s kit could reasonably be changed to that of a tank. She has a bunch of CC and ways to survive damage or regen health. Soldier has a single ability that could be used to support making him a healer.
No idea why people are stuck on this silly idea.
Making her into a tank, besides being silly on its own, is actually bad because a hero has to at least give you are rough idea what they are about at a glance, especially in a fast paced game with many characters like HotS.
If anything, she should be a Support.
And while not on the list, I hope Sombra never makes her way into HotS since her mechanics are not only overlapping with those of existing heroes too much, but her kit as a whole would be WAAAAAY too toxic for this game.
Mei is less of a stretch than that. And before you go “erg League bad!”, the millions of people who play LoL can perfectly understand that Amumu is a tank. Unless you’re implying that the HotS crowd is too stupid to accept that the CC heavy hero is for tanking just because she’s a little smaller, I think it’ll be fine.
Also, Prime Evil Diablo isn’t very tankish looking, and s/he’s fine. Same with Yrel, Twig of Hope.
A support, maybe. A damage-focused character with one minor healing ability could be his role. Something like post-rework pre-rework Tyrande. It’d help make him different from Raynor. A healer though, absolutely not.
I agree. I’m hoping the next release is Mei as a tank (or at least bruiser). But saying the game has “enough assassins” is silly.
So what?
That’s LoL (not to mention he is a dated champion).
Even then, he’s an undead and one of their traits in general is that they are hard to kill.
Mei is a MUCH bigger stretch than him since she is a normal human and has NOTHING on her visual design saying she’s a tank.
Not to mention that having a lot of CC makes you a tank (or are you saying that Cain is a tank because he can be hard to kill and is rather CC heavy).
Prime Evil Diablo (a skin, and even then it is large and imposing) and Yrel (a bruiser, but still in plate armor and carrying a huge hammer) are also both poor examples.
Uther is already a hybrid tank/healer. Tyrande and Kharazim are hybrid assassin/healer. Why not have another hybrid assassin/healer in Soldier 76? I like Soldiers kit but the game simply does not need more assassins.
