Orphea's kit was originally supposed to be a SC2 lurker

Lurker with overlord micro? Bit of a stretch don’t ya think?
The closest comparison I can think of to current in-game lore from the existing universes would be a corrupted pandarian with sha abilities, and that would mean

  1. Another panda ew
  2. Another generic hero they make up lore for on the spot, only difference from Orphea is that it comes from an existing universe

Sound to me like you just didn’t like the idea of an original nexus character and now you’re searching for excuses to validate your opinion.

I never saw potential for a Lurker hero.
Maybe a Lurker summon heroic. Maybe a Hydralisk morph to Lurker like Tassadar’s Archon.
But if we were going to get a generic Zerg unit, a Defiler/Infestor seemed more likely since they already have abilities to draw from.

Oh, and because Sgt. Hammer is a nightmare to balance and make fun.

I could see a Lurker hero/heroic unit being added. I’ve got an unfinished Overmind concept that allows him to control a single heroic Hydralisk that can be upgraded at level 10 into a Lurker to gain the Burrow ability and secondary attack.

That soudns dope, isntere there already some kind of psionic hydralisk somewhere ? No Im probably imaginging that non sense lol my bad

Seriously do you guys not know blizzard? Like love or hate what they’ve been giving us lately but you had to know they are lore nuts and will eventually start telling a story with HOTS, for heaven’s sake even Hearthstone has little tidbits of story in the form of the adventures.
And sooner or later that was going to give us a character fit for the Nexus itself.
This is not a problem, don’t be hyped for the hero if you’re not fine but to say this is work of the devil or something just, come on.

Mechanically and thematically, it could actually be Sara, AKA Yogg Saron’s fake body. Think about it.

Giant spiky tentacles. Mouths. Nomming people.

There is a SC version Moba. Created Starcraft heroes out of each unit including the Lurker. You can find it for free in the Arcade games in Starcraft 2.
This custom game is called “Hero Attack,”
Very fun, give it a try one day.

You’re the lurker

Most Starcraft heroes are boring to play. Actually, all of them now with the Kerrigan nerf. On the other hand, Orphea is fun.

I’ll look into it.

I didn’t mean to imply that I don’t think a Lurker hero is possible, just that I didn’t think it was high enough priority compared to other options so it was eclipsed in a sense. But then again I never would have seen a Probe hero coming either.

Let me get this straight, you’re tilted because you can’t roleplay a particular Starcraft unit in your MOBA?

Kerrigan has spines, spikes and a chomp. Your Lurker unit’s been dead in the water for far longer than you think :open_mouth:

Can we just stop criticizing them for once? They wanted to do an experiment. “How our playerbase will react if we will create something new”. Now they do know that we are bunch of hateful players. Kevin was already saying on the panel that they will focus on “requested and loved heroes that we have a lot of”.

Do not get me wrong, I do not like the idea of original Nexus heroes but still she is quite fun and challenging to play. Will for sure be part of my rooster.

Also, we will get all those heroes we do want sooner or later. Even when doomsayers arrive each week, the game is not going anywhere soon.

100 % agreed but is that way really necessary? Do not mistaken me for any white knight here, that’s not the reason.

Simply, we are players, we do have our rights and needs. Our expectations for the game. Often, Blues are not meeting them. And we are raging while we could just start a discussion. Maybe then, they would be more present here on the forum

Trash me if you’d like. It won’t change the point anyway

Discussions are great and all.

However, that is not how this forum works.

You can spend hours writing a perfectly-explained argument, with many sources backing your claims. It gets 2 up-votes if you’re lucky, and quickly sinks to the 3rd page without a reply.

Go ahead and try it by all means.

If you want to get interest in this place, you have to rustle jimmies. There ar very few “rational discussions” that last more than 6 hours where anyone can see them.

This little farcical thread is upwards of 50 posts, and discussed 4+ potential fan favourite heroes that deserved the spot more than a Nexus original. It also had discussion on why many people believe the hero is fine.

Sadly, the only way people talk in this place is at the top of their lungs, with a lot of “nuh uh’s” and “I know you are but what am I.”

People WTF’d when Probius was released as a “hero”. How is Lurker different?
And OP is the one complaining about Orphea lore, lmao.

This right here, upvote x1000.

The developers can do whatever they want, and while they do need to cater towards their fans to some extent, this is still their game, and their vision.

You toxic people who call Blizzard out on everything they do that doesn’t align with your own personal wants, need to back off, and let us people who want to actually enjoy any lore that gets added in any form, play the game that has been presented to us.

Orphea does not look like a “Loli” as you call her, she looks like a teenage girl, no different than D.Va. Her powers set her apart, and honestly this “No personality” arguement is ridiculous to the extreme. Give her some time to actually DO anything, and maybe she’ll develop beyond a playable character. If the toxic people had their way, Orphea would not be added, possibly even scrapped altogether, and she would gain nothing at all.

I for one, can’t wait to play her, she looks fun, fluid, and entirely HOTS representative. League can kiss my backside, because Orphea is a hero, not a “Champ”.

I’m honestly not seeing it. If you want a lurker comparison, look at Anubarak. Bug like, spikes line attack, burrow. There are so many similar abilities with what’s in hots and in other games.

A few flaws in your argument.

The first is that the appearance of the skills is kind of totally irrelevant and can be changed fairly easy. And they do for certain skins. So saying spines and teeth=lurker just doesn’t really make much sense.
Give a single person a week(tops) and they could have her summoning, say, water. Or cats.

The second is that a lurker, in canon and out, is not a character. There has never been a lurker, in any SC work, that has even a glimmer of personality or individuality. The Zerg don’t work that way. Part of being a hive mind. As a character, it’d be even more shallow than Butcher.

And finally, her skill effects don’t really fit a lurker’s abilities. I mean, sure one hits everyone in a line but that’s not exactly a rare attack type.
She doesn’t deploy to attack(and in fact encourages constant movement) which is the lurker’s entire thing. And unless they gave them a big rework when I wasn’t looking, they have no big AoE attacks or displacement abilities at all. Just the 2 kind of poking.
She has no stealth or hiding abilities.
She doesn’t have anti armor abilities.
The only thing she had similar are the spines(Lurkers not being all that bitey) which is both just cosmetic and not a rare aesthetic.
