One thing I noticed since role preference added

People do not like to tank lol. So true

You hadn’t noticed before that it was all assassin?

But people like to tank more than to heal.

I like tanks and have no problem tanking. I do get completely demoralized when I make plays as a tank and my dps is SO BAD that they can’t follow up on plays being made even when it’s delivered to them on a silver platter.

I really don’t get that same feeling when I play dps. I might still have other bad players on my team, but it just doesn’t make me feel as powerless as I feel when I’m playing a low dps tank with bad players.

I feel exactly the same way with healing. I love playing healers, but can’t stand watching team mates constantly walking into free damage and never clearing lanes and then they complain about losing and WHY ARE YOUR HEALS SO LOW.

It’s because you die instantly due to poor team fight awareness and taking a ton of damage. And they are up 3-4 lvls due to your piss poor ability to rotate and soak lanes.

Personally I’ve seen more healer pref than tank pref. I’ve only seen tank show up once or twice

And that’s the story of how I became a “tank main”.

I think this is my and Hoku’s origin story.

I tank because sometimes a gal just wants to throw down and wrassle people.

I think people just like to be able to heal/tank, as well as do damage. So it snowballs into some people picking talents that give more damage instead of more utility for whoever they’re playing as.

I play Tyrael by choice

I play other tanks if I have to.

If the stars align, then I will channel the legendary Chen Mainu Tank

I play sololane and assassin now (and support and stuff also). I also smurf more than i should so that is also part of why, because i’m gonna get way more camps and kills and soak than a lot of other people in that role compared to if I’m on tank :frowning:

People avoid high responsibility and leading roles? How surprising.

I would love to tank but I suck at it so.

You know, up until Heroes, I always considered myself a Tank and Healer specialist.

Heroes changed that, not because the tanks/healers are notoriously bad or anything, but rather because the Heroes team drags their feat releasing Tanks and Healers.

I still think that stretch of 5 Assassins in a row during the end of Dustin Browder’s tenure in 2017 hurt the game A LOT. We’re still feeling the repercussions from it.

Heck, I play Varian a lot, but I RARELY go Tank because it doesn’t make plays in current Heroes compared to his other two specs.

The current array of tanks are good, but the lack of interest in playing one for me is the lack of Tank development.

Last year was the best balance of Tanks and Healers compared to Assassins we ever got in HotS history.

Damage Dealers is what drives the finicals for games like this, but Tanks and Healers is what makes the game commercially viable.

I HONESTLY think Blizzard should get in the habit of releasing 1 Assassin (Bruiser, Melee or Ranged Assassin) and 1 Tank / 1 Healer TOGETHER. It’s not like we don’t know there is a backlog of Tanks/Healers coming SOMETIME.

Some known heroes that are in some stage of development that are likely Tanks or Healers include:

  • Belial (Likely a Healer)
  • Velen (Most certainly a Healer)
  • Vol’jin (Most certainly a healer)
  • Valerian (Possibly a Tank)
  • Kil’jaeden (Possibly a Tank)

These are only the ones datamined at some point or another.

Can confirm, even though I’m not the Butcher they mentioned. I’ve played plenty of games as tank Butcher. And more often than not, I fulfill the role better (more damage soak, less death count) than the opposing team Diablo, Anub or Muradin.

It’s not important what category a hero was classified as. It’s what you do with them that matters.

Which I guess is good for me, I absolutely love playing Frontline heroes like Tanks and Bruisers.

I like tanking and healing (probably more than DPS) but is SO frustrating when your team doesn’t do what it needs to do.

When it comes to games that have a role system, tanks and healers are often no where near as popular as damage dealers. Think the main reason for this is that people enjoy doing big numbers of damage, and damage dealers have an easier time acting independently then tank and heals. See this in quick match when a tank or support end up alone and have problems fighting off others. It also does not help that fault finders tend to pick the tank or heal for blame regardless of facts.

That’s why you get a friend who likes to tank. Also, idk, I prefer healing to tanking because clutch heals or healing a ton has the same effect for me as getting a kill or doing tons of damage (only slightly less thrilling as a healer). There’s no equivalent for that in tanking, probably cause I’m bad at playing melee in most games.

Only issue I have with healers is that yes, some games people run off, leaving you to be focused by the other team. Since you’re dead and unable to heal earlier cause you were running away, people are like, “wow you suck where are my healsssss >:O”

Lastly, wow Kil’jaeden is in development? How crazy would that look, he’s usually enormous. Also, Vol’jin as a healer? Interesting. I gotta see this.

as an ETC main, what ticks me off is when someone locks a tank when both of their preferred roles are not even tank or flex…

Lol ive noticed that the most popular role is the most boring role: solo lane. These people think they are so f-ing good at the game that they cant be bothered with team fighting and they like to battle down one lane the whole game even after level 16.

Everyone wants to be the solo azmo, nazeebo, sonya, thrall, leoric, rag, etc. They should honestly just remove solo laning from the game entirely…

Ew solo laning is boring. I prefer the exact opposite - those teams that are always looking to pick a fight with the other team just cause they can.

Also, I like the preferred role thing so people will know immediately when we start that I can not and will not tank for my life. Mr. ETC main, my savior.
