Alright, it was stated that your rank now is your visible MMR, got it. Then please tell me how I’ve often seen players with lower ranks banning over higher in SL?
For example, yesterday, there was a Platinum 1 who was banning over a Diamond 5. Nobody in the team was grouped, it was all solo. So, if MMR is simply a display of rank, how can this happen?
*Please don’t flame me too hard, I did say it was probably obvious to anyone else.
That was just my best guess as to why this might be. But I’ve seen it happen in many of my SL games now. I know some people make a habit of leaving draft, but this can’t be the only answer.
Your best guess was also correct. Leaving games will incur a harsh rank penalty but your MMR won’t move as far. Eventually the two will normalize again through redemption points or whatever Blizzard calls it.
with the devnotes or devblog that came with the season change, the blues did state that the ways in which mmr will deviate from ranked is really low - pretty much just by leaving – so if the means of divergence is low, than the means to answer your question is also low.
This season places a stronger emphasis on ‘wins’ for getting ranked rewards, so those the most concerned by just ‘winning’ in the lowest amount of time have more incentive to leave at draft than they have before.
similarly, there’s been a spike in forum complaints on the ‘harshness’ of leaving – while not all of it is for ranked – it would probably coincide with a higher occurrence of players leaving games as per the increased demands to get wins to get season rewards.
people don’t need to play just 10 games for placements now, they have play approximately ten times as many games (50 wins, 50% winrate) so there may be ten times as higher a yield of leavers, so to speak.
It could have been all of those things. I’ve also seen more extreme examples. A Diamond 3 banning over a Diamond 1. That would be many leaver games, which is why I asked the question. I don’t count any drafts where people are teamed, these were all solo queues.
