It took me like 300 hours to finally get the hang of dota2 after being used to heroes of the storm.
the amount of “control” you have over what happens in the game is so refreshing. your good plays/builds/map awareness/reaction actually has an impact on the game
I was 40-60 in my first 100 games … ive now won 25 of my last 30 games and climbing the ranking system
i haven’t ran into a situation with crappy matchmaking once … after a win streak im not suddenly having to carry people who play like they are disabled … the other team is getting better as my mmr climbs and so are my allies
it’s amazingly refreshing to have a ranking system that rewards you for having a better understanding of the game
also there’s sites like dotabuff and dotafire with endless stats (because there’s an API created by the developer) so you are able to analyze every part of your game
dota is really complicated/hard to get the hang of initially …
but once you do the brain adapts and it’s just so much more rewarding of an experience
i implore anybody who has been hesitant to give that game a try or who has quit on it to fight through the learning curve and give that game another chance
it has been a blessing in disguise that HoTS died out because if it didn’t i would have never given dota 2 a real chance
My kingdom for this to be in HotS
but other then that the game isn’t dead stop being a drama llama about that.
We just got an update…that’s not what a dead game do dog danggit.
ex Dota 1 tournament player (all roles/flex) / HOTS grandmaster player here
I love HOTS but what activision is doing to Blizzard is horrible. Unless something happens I seriously fear for HOTS. Dota 2 is the best bet in MOBAs and for great reason it was made for gamers by gamers just as HOTS was. HOTS is an amazing game and I love the team fighting/no need for last hitting (this promotes unselfish play) but our time is important and games are meant to be enjoyed. If you love it go for it! I’d be scared to recommend a game to friends that doesn’t even get a banner on Blizzards holiday sale advertisements…
I just had an expanded QM with not one, not two, but THREE rage quitters.
And no, before anyone asks, nobody was toxic. Nobody was even talking. The first quitter was late for a team fight at obj, so they went to boss and /dance’d before exiting game. The 2nd quit immediately after being the first to die in the following team fight. The 3rd quit after losing a 1v1 in lane.
If this game isn’t dead when it’s filled with players like these, then how do you define a dead game?
Sorry to hear that
Can’t win them all I guess.
It is kinda worrying seeing some of my friends are now playing LoL. The things throwing me off about that game is the item system. It seems counterintuitive to be trying to figure out your BIS in the middle of a match. Also there’s that whole thing of relearning the meta and who to play and not play and what if I fall in love with a crap …champion(?) while just trying everyone out.
just find a versatile hero (a hero that can play in any situation) with a high win percentage and then only play that hero
also LoL probably has sites like dotabuff/dotafire … figure out the best standard build for that hero and just keep spamming that same build – you’ll eventually learn how to customize the build to fit the game better/counter what the other team is doing/etc.
then find replays of more experienced players running that same build and copy what they do to get more efficient
before you know it everything will start coming naturally to you
Ok that game is dead…like it’s now being hosted by fans …like there was some crap going down with the Dev team and …I don’t remember Steam? Someone …Microsoft ended up Owning them or something. The story on that is supper sad cause they ran out of funding and the devs still worked on it with no pay!
I remember playing the early beta back before it moved hands so I didn’t need an Steam or w/e account to Dl it.
They had two publishers, one was Microsoft the other had their own distribution platform similar to steam. I think it’s called Arc.
It released on Xbox one and on PC but at first exclusively on the Windows store and then later on Arc (that was the other publisher deal) before finally coming to Steam. The problems there you can probably guess.
If I remember right it was pretty hyped when it was first announced. But then it was delayed again and again. I wouldn’t be surprised if OW came in and swooped a good majority of the potential audience away.
Anyway they released a new hero for the game and shortly after that they downsized the team similar to what HOTs is doing now, I remember there being reassurances from the dev team to the community. A new creature was released and then the next year a new hero, finally eight months later the game was dead-dead servers officially shut down.
People have been complaining about dota 2 match making for years for reasons. You get the forum/reddit topics of people posting win/lose steaks, cutsy nicknames about anything they don’t like (typically volvo) animated gifs of demonstrations of “equally skilled” matchmaking in progress, trouble with 5 stacks, frequent suggestions on how to fix matching/leavers/disconnects
and that just like 20 hours of reddit topics cycling, I could point at other forum communities, but, well, valve seems to have the hardest time maintaining a worthwhile “official” homebase that some parts aren’t accessible for the archive to showcase the routine sort of posts people get that pretty much come off as copy/paste of these boards.
heck, dota devs say even less than blues here so the whole magic of a forum/community whatev could just be the ultimate ‘censorship’ to guise the myriad of routine complaints as simply not having happened at all – esp since icefrog tends to post easteregg/gag changes in regards to community feedback.
So funnily enough, the sort of stuff that rile up the usual complaints here are magically even more pronounced over at dota. But well, that come is the wonderchild of the competitive esport gaming scene that much of the playerbase tend to just jump through hoops and do party tricks to cycle back round again for the next batch of international cookies and the like.
But if you’re enjoying dota now, then rock on. But keep in mind the sort of ‘investment’ you put into it when the bubble does start to break
Have fun in Dota2
I think i’ll stay with hots…Dota2 and LoL has the same problem for me.
The first 15-20 mins of the game is nothing but Laneing, gold farming and buying item. Than 1 TF happens: If team wins, we get ahead and can start fighting. If we loose, we fall behind and back to farming for another 15 mins…
I’ll rather wait in queue and play 20 mins of Hots than to suffer what is in those game
Too many are here primarily because its the “blizzard character univerese”. If it werent for that, I’d never go back to mobas. I got 0 desire to play random character models fight it out on a single map. Also the item shop isnt helping, it further drives me away with its annoyance.
Its sad how incompetent they all are at Blizzard. They were sitting on a gem and couldve done so much, had they handled it better. Failing to name the game Blizzard Allstars is the cover of the book of fails … everything else are quite a few chapters in it.
This weird to me. Why do you try out one other moba game after this one? Why not strategy or a cool fps game or something else? I think this genre (moba games) bad from the begining. Hots not a bad game. Hots is tottaly fine.
i disagree with all of this …
yes there are people who complain about the matchmaking but not overwhelming so like people do about HoTS
i really think HoTS matches people to manipulate them psychologically or something
Dota 2 matches people to create the best matches possible based on MMR.
and since there’s more depth, game knowledge is rewarded with wins (individuals can carry the game)
Yeah, I have no idea why they called the game “Heroes of the Storm.” Someone new sees that title and they just have a question mark popping up above their head with one raised eye brow and a shoulder shrug before moving on to something else that could excite them. Just another bullet point on how they are out of touch with the players.
And the UI and sound is dark, gloomy and depressing. They should take a gander at how the Super Smash Bros franchise is evolving.
I think you disagree with as much as you bothered to read on the merit particular to one quality rather than “all of it”
How much of a comparison of community outcry have you seen particular to blizzard games vs dota2? Cuz part of the issue of which you want to express is from the environment: people are vocal here because it gets reactions while some outlets of dota 2 fall into mires of unresponsiveness to the point it really stands out when its just the same person bumping the same complaint to repeat themselves for actling like it gets more exposure.
a big difference is also the issue of time span between them: hit up complaints of dota2 from 2014 and the like (where you can) HoTS can certainly be significantly better in a myriad of ways, but a hefty chunk of some aspects of ‘feedback’ tend to fall into false positive loops of people just ranting to stir the pot.
